Is it though?

Seems more like a Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker emblem Dragon.

I clicked on this all excited that it would be a Dragon literally from the Howling Mine, like lore wise... still I guess that's gonna see a buttload of Standard play, right alongside Thunderbreak Regent. I love this new thing of Red getting awesome big flyers at 4-5 mana.

That's not mythic, is it? I can't tell.

Seems good, only thing that might stop it from seeing play is the fact that you discard your hand the turn it comes down, so if you play it on turn four you're likely discarding at least two cards before it has any impact, setting you up to be blown out by removal.

How about that Subterranean Scout - thing? An unblockable Rabblemaster? lol

Between shortcut goblin and the menace mechanic, I am excited to play RDW again once origins hits.

June 8, 2015 11:50 a.m.

Arvail says... #11

RDW is looking like it's going to stay for a while.

June 8, 2015 11:54 a.m.

Also Titan's Strength got a reprint. Oh my Heliod

June 8, 2015 11:58 a.m.

Almost makes me wish Savage Summoning was still Standard legal. Leave 2RRG open just in case your opponent starts thinking too big for his britches, if not flash in the dragon at his EOT, get the first draw off it before you have to discard at your EOT. That's pretty nice.

June 8, 2015 11:59 a.m.

Runlue says... #14

Wait, Titan's Strength got a reprint!?

BEST NEWS OF MY LIFE.

June 8, 2015 12:20 p.m.

EmblemMan says... #15

Why is this playable what deck does it fit into?

June 8, 2015 12:49 p.m.

Runlue says... #16

EmblemMan RDW of course. It's a late game draw engine that RDW desperately needs.

June 8, 2015 12:50 p.m.

Servo_Token says... #17

Where is this Titan's Strength reprint at?

June 8, 2015 12:52 p.m.

EmblemMan says... #18

Dont most rdw decks run like 16 lands youll never cast him

June 8, 2015 12:52 p.m.

EmblemMan no they don't. I don't know of any deck constructed by a competent magic player that runs 16 lands in Standard.

This dragon looks awesome as a curve topper for red aggro decks and could be good in an aggressive R/G midrange deck. There is also the possibility that it has powerful synergy with some other cards that involve the graveyard. At worst it is a 4/4 flier for 4 in red, which we already know is solid.

EmblemMan says... #20

Ok well then you clearly havent heard of boss sligh which wS a deck for awhile created by a very well known aggro enthusiast and proffessional magic player tom ross and these decks did run 17 lands and can be considered a form of red deck wins

June 8, 2015 1:07 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #21

personally I think you'll be seeing this one in some sort of either Rakdos or Boros Midrange strategy for sure

"I have provided no evidence to support my claim, but I know the name of this professional magic player, and i'll be damned if my e-dick isn't ten feet longer than yours"

EmblemMan - You couldn't be further from the truth. Google Paul Sligh and see what I mean.

June 8, 2015 1:25 p.m.

EmblemMan says... #24

How is that at all what i was claiming yeah i know his name but i also know the deck achetype and know that red deck wins as an archetype is not defined by one deck list and jwiley thats fine i was just referencing one type of rdw that i know you guys dont have to be so attacking and critical for having an opinion geez

June 8, 2015 1:28 p.m.

Arvail says... #25

Guys... Off topic enough. The general consensus is that this thing is playable. It'll likely find a home in a few aggressive or midrange strategies. That's nice.

June 8, 2015 1:31 p.m.

Link to presale

It debuts on SCG.com at $10. I don't think it's a $10 card personally. I see this guy as boom or bust with a price tag around $4 or $15 when the dust settles. I'm going to hold off on ordering at the moment.

@EmblemMan

You asked... "Dont most rdw decks run like 16 lands youll never cast him."

They answered, "No!" (with more clarification)

You then tried to defend your point with "Ok well then you clearly havent heard of boss sleigh which..."

So, of course they will then try to reiterate their point.

Really, I would hardly call 1 deck list which runs 17 (not 16) land (18 when it placed 1st) "most rdw".

JA14732 says... #28

Why do EmblemMan's posts on this remind me of IM? Anyways, great card for RDW, not so much for anything else.

June 8, 2015 2:03 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #29

JA14732 do you think it's too much drawback to see play in midrange?

June 8, 2015 2:04 p.m.

EmblemMan says... #30

Rayneous I understand my wording with "most" and maybe even "well clearly" was a little off or unnecessary. However, they did not say no they said no competent magic player would play that. So I gave them an example of when that happened, granted my number was off by one in my research, but the reaction and the following reaction to my response was definitely uncalled for . If they just said no thats not very common or no thats not the type of deck we are talking about thats fine I wouldnt have said anything more about it. Also I dont always have the best grammar and punctuation while on my phone thats why :P.

June 8, 2015 2:07 p.m.

Rayenous says... #31

I like the idea of running this + Ensnaring Bridge.

Great method of defence while giving you card advantage and an evasive attacker.

If it had even the slightest built in protection it would be absolutely awesome... though possibly broken.

June 8, 2015 2:14 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #32

So Boros lockdown feat this as finisher

June 8, 2015 2:16 p.m.

Runlue says... #33

So this is pretty much an Outpost Siege on a flying stick. I love it. GIVE ME MORE.

June 8, 2015 3:53 p.m.

JA14732 says... #34

VampireArmy, I could see this working in any red aggro deck, but if this gets removed after you discard your hand in midrange it's GG. You're 100% fucked, devoting your time to believing in the heart of the cards-and the top of your deck.

June 8, 2015 4:51 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #35

that's a fair assessment. Yeah I can see the problems when you put it like that.

June 8, 2015 5:04 p.m.

Runlue says... #36

JA14732 If you're playing RDW, and that happens, you should be dead by then anyways. This just offers what could possibly be an out. You don't need this to discard your hand, because your hand should already be gone, and your opponent should already be dead.

June 8, 2015 6:09 p.m. Edited.

JA14732 says... #37

VA and I were discussing this card's applications in a midrange shell. Obviously it kicks ass in RDW, but I believe that that's this card's only application.

June 8, 2015 7:33 p.m.

@ThatJunkMage and Runlue

There's a released 'sample deck' list and Titan's Strength is in the red deck. You can see it here

And I quote:

'If a card is in a decklist below but not listed above and not a new card, that means it is a reprint that is also in Magic Origins.'

This is going to look so pretty in my Feldon of the Third Path EDH.
