So recently MaRo put a teaser post on Blogatog about Ikoria since spoilers arent due for a month with some of the more bizarre aspects of it (for example, were getting at least one dinosaur and a SQUIRREL) but one of the things he said really got me wondering what it was (and Im paraphrasing here) "printing a cycle that players have asked about for years" and I cant think of what it is.
It cant be the rest of the swords because theyd be too strong for standard, I cant think of any land cycles theyd do and I for sure cant think of what else theyd do. Any ideas?

Has anyone here noticed that Drannith Magistrate looks exactly like the man in the curse cycle from Commander 2017 (i.e., Curse of Verbosity, Curse of Opulence, etc.)? Here is a link to a Tumblr post where some made that observation.

Slightly shorter hair though, and seemingly a more serious demeanor.
Watsonian explanation: It's his dad, or he lost his spark yet matured in the process.
Doylist explanation: Kieran Yanner accidentally reused a character design.

Coward_Token, do we know that the man in the curses is a planeswalker? Theoretically, all those cards could be set on Ikoria, although I doubt that WOtC had yet conceived of that plane when Commander 2017 was in development.

Additional Doylist explanation: Kieran Yanner just modeled both after himself https://cdna.artstation.com/p/users/avatars/000/019/366/large/c082c861da766eb80603823c979ff5d7.jpg

Coward_Token, those are both very good explanations.

Hi_diddly_ho_neighbor honestly I think Tayam is an amazing commander and I want to build him too as either a land fall deck, hatebears or some other weird effect.
