Is turbofog good now?

With the new spoilers I can imagine a turbofog deck being very good. Two new cards, Dictate of Kruphix; and Kruphix, God of Horizons make me think this could be a thing. What do you guys think?

Kruphix + Sphinx's Revelation = good times.

Maze's End decks are essentially Turbofog.

I talking strictly turbofog, no maze lol.

No, not while Gray Merchant of Asphodel is around

Even then, it can be recovered from with Sphinx's.

Gary is literally the only thing that makes mono black scary. Without him, it wouldn't be a deck.

Well we don't all live in magical christmas land where gray merchant doesnt exist. He does exist and mono black is the best deck as well is the most popular deck in standard. Turbo fog is barely viable without gray merchant around and with him around it's not viable at all.

@ The Doctor I thought the Desecration Demon s and Pack Rat army were pretty convincing, especially considering you could probably just Corrupt instead of Gary-ing.

"Turbo fog is barely viable without gray merchant around and with him around it's not viable at all."

You seem to be assuming that every deck you ever play against will be MBD. I don't know where you play, but MBD isn't the be-all-end-all deck. As for "best" deck, that's your own opinion.

Plus, you seem to be assuming that someone resolving a Gary is game-over for TurboFog. The Doctor has a point in saying that Gary is the only thing that actually threatens TurboFog right now. Without it, MBD can't do much but derp and turn dudes sideways to kill you.

I'd be much more concerned about facing R/W Burn. Unless we see some consistent life-gain printed in Journey (which we still may; only 38 cards have been spoiled thus far), ... or a Witchbane Orb / Leyline of Sanctity -esque card, TurboFog would have really, really good match-ups and match-ups where it loses 100% of the time. Decks with such high variance never do that well.

I'm always down for a good TurboFog deck, but I'm also a realist.

And we have sideboards for a reason. If you play against MBD, then you side in counterspells for Gary, and keep ur fogs for the other cards. If you play against burn, you keep Riot Control , remove ur other fogs, and put in life gain and counters. Turbo Fog would actually be really good if you could play it right and had a solid win con, plus you would need to be sure you could reach ur boardwipes (so Planar Cleansing or that BNG boardwipe would be good in the deck). Turbo Fog is also very fun, last week I played the Maze's End version and did really well with it.

You can also respond to Gary on the stack by Cyclonic Rift ing their field back to hand. I've done this so often that MBD hate playing me.

Dem stack manipulations.

The bigger thing about turbofog though is how drawn out games become at times.

SpaderAce says... #15

Haha that could work too! They would only gain a 4 life swing, so it wouldn't be such a big deal

If I were to play Turbo Fog, I would play blue, and at that probably bant, with a very controlling shell, so the Gary's do not resolve.

At FNM it is. It is not competitive though.

I like when people talk about FNM not being competitive... I think my store is just overly competitive or something XD

Honestly, MBD just never wins in my store anymore, everybody learned how to be it ages back. Black White Midrange on the other hand is pretty much the dominant deck. That said we all often just play fun decks and occasionally win via nobody knowing how the eff to react or deal with a deck that just hits unexpectedly. I can't say Turbofog has ever won here though.

Could go Irindu with the 2 new gods, fog, draw and counter spells and cyclonic rift then the red blue chimera and start swinging for game when you have enough mana to just counter and rift after casting the chimera... hmmmm could work.

As somebody who switches from control to aggro nearly every week, the only thing I consistently dread playing is Maze's End. The games are so boring, no matter which deck type I use, and it usually ends up in a draw regardless because we run out of time.

One deck I have noticed making a BIG rise is R/W burn. That shit's scary.

SpaderAce says... #20

Mine is really competitive too. And it's mostly R/G monsters at the top of my store, but there are quite a few jank decks at my store that are STILL super competitive and cool

I think turbofog will have enough life gain to stop gary via Sphinx's Revelation and Riot Control . I dont see MBD to be a problem.

Turbo fog is good, and doesn't really have a bad matchup, it's just that you need a solid win con
