So this just got spoiled. Seems like Control decks across the spectrum just got a new play thing. Thoughts? Seems legit

Seems a tad easy to remove... Maybe for burn...

This is... Interesting. Potential for eternal formats, but we'll have to see. I could see this thing getting out of hand pretty quickly, but then again a big vanilla creature with no evasion isn't all that good.

Seems like this is only good if you can keep a clear board - which control generally can. Otherwise it'll just get chump blocked all day long. I'll be experimenting with this guy as a win con in my modern UWR deck for sure.

Does this need its seperate thread? there is the sticky for this stuff...

anyways, it is not very good. Haunted Plate Mail that requires actual work to become something formidable? No, thanks.

The comparison between this and Haunted Plate Mail isn't a very sound one.

Haunted Plate Mail is much slower for one (4 mana is a LOT more than 1 mana, especially in the competitive scene). This card also has the the ability to grow much bigger than the 4/4 body that Haunted Plate Mail is stuck with. There is also the fact that enchantments are slightly more difficult to remove than artifacts, but this is not always true and won't matter when they become creatures that both die to Doom Blade anyway.

The reason this card has so much potential is that in a control shell you can drop this turn 1 and then let it continue to grow while you do what you would be doing anyway.

The main problems I am seeing with it are that it is pretty much a dead card after the first couple turns of the game, you really don't want more than 1 at a time, and even though it can get big it's still just a vanilla creature once animated. Time will tell whether this is worth while or not.

I'd run it as a 1-of in esper control, and maybe another in the sideboard.

EvenDryke: "a big vanilla creature with no evasion isn't all that good." Goyf and his $200 price tag would like to say hello.

This card definitely has potential. As mentioned above, its the perfect 1 drop for UWR control. Its extremely efficient in the sense that it takes what you're already doing anyway (casting non creature spells) and gives you added value for doing it. Its only a 1 mana investment to cast, and 1 mana to activate, meaning even if it gets Abrupt Decayed you haven't really lost anything. The biggest weakness I see is that it is relatively easy to remove, but in game one at least, most opponents won't have enchantment hate. I think it could see play, at least in testing.

It turns out I misread the second ability's cost. Now I'm thinking 2 of, and another in the side.

It's alright, but not in control mainboard. Game 1 your opponent is going to have a bunch of dead removal in hand which you want to keep dead. Out of the sideboard I can see it being a thing.

See, I'm actually ok with that. I'd rather my opponent keeps cards in his hand that are dead 9/10 times whilst my relevant spells stop him from progressing.

I'm not saying it's going to change the format. But in something like UW/x control in Modern where something like Celestial Colonnade is a win condition, this seems a much more able threat that your deck will naturaly support with little effort. You have the issue of maybe not drawing it early game, as it's not something you want 4 of in the deck, but again, considering how Celestial Colonnade only has a power of 4, this can quickly outrace it.

I'll be testing it out anyway.

When I said hand above, I meant in a post game 1 environment.

It can be countered or Abrupt Decayed whereas you need land destruction to deal with Celestial Colonnade, which many decks don't run.

I say it sees a bit of play in the sideboards of U/W/x control in Standard, but I don't think it's good enough for Modern. There are too many answers for it.

My first thought was heroic deck. Those decks have spells to keep a creature alive the only problem is the cards that say sac an enchantment, on the plus side sac creature spells dont work as often.

This, in a Jeskai Storm deck, could be a backup win con if you can only get a storm count of 19...,

and if you have nothing to do, you just pump him up

I've been trying to scheme up a BUG / Junk tempo build for Standard featuring Warden of the First Tree and Rakshasa Deathdealer, and this seems like a decent 3rd option for Junk.
