Jeskai Ascendancy

Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn. Untap those creatures.

Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, you may draw a card. If you do, discard a card.

Bring back Young Pyromancer ! I had a lot of fun running him in Jeskai decks this Standard and this card would be too fun with him.

My problem with some of the Jeskai cards like this one is that they reward playing noncreature as well as creature spells. So should you play more noncreature spells to get the trigger? Then you won't have many creatures to get the effect. Should you play a lot of creatures to get the effect? Then you won't have a lot of ways to get the trigger. It should have just been, "whenever you play a noncreature spell, draw a card" or if that's too crazy, "whenever you play a noncreature spell, you may pay , if you do draw a card." Then at least it would be useful in control decks.

I see this card working splendidly with heroic decks that leverage instants and auras (like mine). Can't wait.

I see this card as being vital to the Prowess deck. You're short on creatures, discard a noncreature spell, you need some prowess triggers, discard a creature. It helps you loot for gas to keep your deck running, providing you're drawing into what you need of course.

This works really well with...

Convoke spells - Tap creatures to cast... then untap them
Mana Dorks - same as convoke
Token generating spells - They will both trigger the effect and get the bonus (not from the same spell, but future ones).
Bestow - If cast as an aura, it will trigger the effect... later, when it is a creature, it will get the bonus.
Inspired - Get extra bonus when they untap.

All of these things are in Standard right now and there are too many useable interactions for it not to see a little play.

@omnipotato Why does i have to be useful in control decks? That's not the Jeskai way. They're about being cunning, using stealth, strategy, and intelligence to beat their opponent. They are a bunch of monks and martial artist who's strength you don't realize till it's too late. They don't want to build up walls and defend till their opponent runs out of gas, they're going to plan for that one quick strike to finish their opponent. Prowess embodies that pretty well, and this card is prowess for all of your creatures and stacks with the ones that actually have the prowess ability, and it helps you draw cards so that your not top decking looking for combat tricks. Forget what you know about american control because, in this standard, that's not what the Jeskai are about.

It looks like none of the clans are about control and that's sad.

Abzan: midrange
Jeskai: combo/interaction
Sultai: combo/interaction
Mardu: aggro
Temur: midrange

There is rarely a control deck that's obvious in the first weeks of a new standard. It may not even have all the pieces before Fate Reforged is released.

My bet is Sultai. people....

Check out my response in this post, #13. I give kind of an example of how I think Abzan control could look. I didn't put up any specific number or a deck list but I do mention the direction I think control is heading and what cards are possible inclusions in it. I don't think control will be dead, just have a different face.

I believe the Jeskai clan's strategy is building on top of and Heroic. Those decks were close to being competitive and definitely held their own at FNM. They're still weak to Thoughtseize but spot removal is more expensive now which is a big boost. Adamant Negation will be at it's best in a deck like this. Ignore the watermarks and evaluate the entire card pool.

On a side note control decks will most likely be tap out in these colors: , , , , , . Draw go doesn't seem likely outside of

@Rasta_Viking29 Thank you for saying something I've been thinking through these whole spoilers. People keep seeing stuff like the new bloodsoaked champion spoiled to day and saying, man Mardu is getting all the good stuff (or whatever clan got whatever card spoiled that day). And I just keep thinking, "are these people crazy, just because it has a clans watermark on it doesn't mean it can't be used in other decks". It's like people actually think they have to also play red and white if they want to play bloodsoaked champion in their deck lol.

So. A bit late to this party, but it's come to my attention that there's a possible turn 2 infinite situation in Standard (and relatively consistent before turn 5, I suppose). You need:

You have the enchantment in play, and any dude (Ornithopter , for instance, because everything combos with Ornithopter). Have either of the 0-drops either in play or in hand. Cast Retraction Helix targeting your Ornithopter. Put your 0 drop in play, Ornithopter gets bigger and untaps. Tap it to return the 0 drop to hand. Rinse, repeat. Infinite power and toughness, infinite loots for an Aqueous Form or similar for a win.
