Kaladesh release date: September 30th (2016).
Three-letter code: KLD

So much potential!
Let's just hope that kaladesh won't be a Mirrodin-meets-Dominaria thingy/spinoff :)

looks like they are sticking with the new token wording we saw on the Rise from the Tides promo

Ohthenoises says... #6
"Create a token" is worded very similarly to "assemble a contraption" same formatting even.
Steamflogger Boss hype!

I kind of like the new wording for token production effects. Short and to the point
August 26, 2016 7:40 p.m.
Its much cleaner than many playgroups vernacular- poop a token"

PhotogenicParasympathetic says... #10
I like the wording change. Makes it much cleaner to say over "Put ___ onto the battlefield." It's easier to say "create" for all token creators, except, of course, for Grave Titan and Siege-Gang Commander who as we all know, "Bring friends."
August 26, 2016 8:34 p.m.
Oh snap.
Reminds me of Cryptic Command, but without the .
August 26, 2016 9:36 p.m.
Choose second ability to make a creature artifact, choose first ability to create another token of the same creature. Seems good for 6 mana. lol
August 26, 2016 11:33 p.m.
@ DrFunk27 - It does not work that way. To choose both you have to choose two targets at once. Then the spell resolves from the top of the text box to the bottom.
You could make two Solemn Simulacrum (I am praying for this to be in standard again) but not two Siege-Gang Commander unless you somehow turned that gobo into an artifact before casting this new spell. Something like Liquimetal Coating would do the trick.

I like it, I think this will have uses in some very fun ways :)
August 27, 2016 12:51 a.m.
Ohthenoises, while I truly wish WotC would do more Riggers and for us to finally see contraptions, I honestly think they are doing an update on their vocabulary - changing "put" to "create"

I still do not like the change of wording for generating tokens; what was wrong with the previous wording? If it is not broken, do not fix it.
As for the card itself, I do like it very much, and I believe that this confirms, or at least suggests, that Saheeli Rai is at least partially blue (but hopefully not mono-blue, since the game already has Tezzeret as an artifact-focused mono-blue planeswalker).
August 27, 2016 12:57 a.m.
iBleedPunk says... #19
DemonDragonJ I assume she will be / and hopefully I am correct
August 27, 2016 2:06 a.m.
Ledian Saheeli Rai.
Regarding the wording, "create" was actually the original wording. Look:
So, in essence, they are changing it back, making it less wordy. I like it.
Bonus points for anyone who targets Mirrorwing Dragon with Saheeli's Artistry. The card is pretty much unplayable outside of EDH though.
August 27, 2016 5:26 a.m.
DemonDragonJ, the previous wording wasn't "broken" but it was needlessly inefficient; card space is at a pretty high premium especially for token creation effects, which already requires a huge amount of words to define all of the token's attributes. The new way is just a more compact template.
August 27, 2016 6:47 a.m.
Well, the do use smaller text when they have to but it affects readability and there's a pretty hard limit to how small you can make the text and still have it be legible. And I'm completely ignorant of the economics of modern printing so maybe this isn't actually true, but I would assume that fewer words are cheaper to print than more, smaller words.
August 27, 2016 9:19 a.m.
Gidgetimer says... #25
Lame_Duck: they don't set type by hand and the entire card is inked whether there are words or not so I doubt it affects cost of printing, especially to WotC.
Having said that, anyone who has ever played with Animate Dead can attest to the fact that smaller print is much harder to read, especially from across a table.
August 27, 2016 10:23 a.m.
DemonDragonJ - Readability. they really need to start cutting card text down. conspiracy is awful for this.
Anyway this card is nuts. A clone effect and a Copy Artifact effect for 6. Phew. card advantage and efficiency.

I'm not a big fan of cards that don't outright win games for 6 mana. Especially since they got rid of the hard ramp deck in modern that this would have been great in. I would have squeed so hard copying a Primeval Titan and an Amulet of Vigor with one spell. I would definitely have tested it even if I don't think it would have beaten out any of the other cards in the deck.
August 27, 2016 10:35 a.m.
I'll take a Wurmcoil Engine and a uhhh.... Wurmcoil Engine!

Ohthenoises says... #29
I'll take a set of nice equipment. Like, something playable.
August 27, 2016 10:45 a.m.
@Ohthenoises, yes this. We've been getting a lot of mediocre equipment lately
Although, I know you like Skeleton Key in your doran TL deck :)
August 27, 2016 11:41 a.m.
Ohthenoises says... #31
Because skulk is op with Doran lol and a slightly worse Mask of Memory stapled to it is pretty boss too.

ChiefBell is actually a more entrenched, and still current modern player. I gave up after they banned three combo decks in two years. Now I play mostly commander and legacy. The formats where combo decks can survive and people are expected to adapt and overcome instead of wait for a banning.
It is too bad that they brought back modern as a PT format for just long enough to kill all the interesting combo decks though. I was a big proponent of keeping modern as a pro-tour format, but the accelerated tuning of decks killed interesting decks and WotC's want to showcase new cards killed the combo deck that was the epitome of what they said they wanted in Modern. I got pushed out of the format by being given what I thought I wanted lol.

With the pre-release of this set less than a month away, and with the set to be shown at PAX next week; now would be a time to start looking at this set

Just an FYI spoilers technically haven't started yet. This is a leaked card so it might be fake but I'd bet my EDH decks it's real. I think Saheeli will be since she's probs gonna be blue and unless you count esper, izzet is the most likely artifact colors. She'll go nicely with the legendary.
August 28, 2016 1:31 a.m.
Spoilers should either start the 2nd or the 9th. I believe that it's the 2nd.
August 28, 2016 3:43 a.m.
I guess saheeli might be the artifact general a lot of people have been waiting for.
August 28, 2016 10 a.m.
jchudz Nah, she's confirmed to be a planeswalker. RIP.
August 28, 2016 12:18 p.m.
AgentGreen says... #40
DarkLaw We'll see something on the 2nd when PAX West starts up; likely the trailer as well as a single card.
August 28, 2016 1:13 p.m.
I think that the 5 planeswalkers for the block will probably be:
-Chandra ()
-Nissa ()
-Liliana ()
-Saheeli ()
-Gideon () or Dovin ()
According to Wizard's color distribution method, this would give a color balance of:
White: 1.0 or 0.5 respectively Blue: 0.5 or 1.0 respectively Black: 1.0Red: 1.0Green: 1.0
August 30, 2016 5:17 a.m.
Sorry, I screwed up with formatting, and red should be 1.5.
August 30, 2016 5:18 a.m.
RicketyEng says... #43
I just read in yesterday's daily mtg update that Dovin Baan is, "A very, very blue Planeswalker from Kaladesh." Saheeli Rai has also been confirmed as Izzet colours!
August 30, 2016 10:55 a.m.
genericaura says... #44
They'll have two more for their Planeswalker Decks remember, so that's seven total or:
-Chandra ()
-Nissa ()
-Liliana ()
-Saheeli ()
-Dovin ()
and -Gideon ()
-Some other PW ()
for the new decks.
August 30, 2016 3:49 p.m.
I dislike the planeswalker decks for making unplayable planeswalkers.
August 30, 2016 4:15 p.m.
genericaura says... #46
DarkLaw But they don't take away from the five PWs per set or anything. They're just the usual Intro decks with two flashy PWs for the new or casual players. They're mostly there so they can have the Gatewatch show up and not use up half the PW slots. It's literally just more stuff that WOTC is making now. No drawbacks. I totally agree they'll all be garbage though.
August 30, 2016 4:23 p.m.
genericaura I agreed with you up until recently, when I realised that the main characters of a set- such as Chandra for Kaladesh- could be assigned this slot, rather than "extras" like Ugin from BFZ.
August 30, 2016 4:57 p.m.
genericaura says... #48
DarkLaw That's a good point. I'd prefer Chandra to get the slot though, in lieu of Dovin Baan or one of the new PWs, since they're less likely to get another card. I hope they're at least playable in EDH where investing a bunch of time in a 6 cmc walker is doable.
August 30, 2016 5:34 p.m.
Ok. To my knowledge, there are 2 new walkers in the set (Saheeli Rai and Dovin Baan), so with that said, I doubt were getting a new Chandra in Kaladesh.
However, there are 2 alternatives.
We could get a new Chandra in the Planeswalker intro deck thingys....
There's always Aether Revolt
August 30, 2016 11:29 p.m.
I know there's already a Chandra in play at the moment but SURELY there will be another Chandra in one of the next two sets.
If not, it would be like going to Zendikar and not having a new Nissa.
