tfw they reprint the best artifacts in mtg other than the power nine
September 12, 2016 5:31 p.m. Edited.
Jeez, the Master Series cards are epic (both in powerlevel as in art)!
September 12, 2016 5:34 p.m.
Why... I mean I love these new reprints but damnit wizards, I don't have 800$ to drop into a new playset of the greatest aether vials ever printed. I have college to pay for and I'm probably going to buy them anyway!

"Sweet! The gearhulks are in the inventions subset!" -No one
(said in a joking-sarcastic tone)

I mean, they're pretty beastly looking and none of them are particularly terrible.
September 12, 2016 6:59 p.m.
I hate the artwork on the Gearhulks from the Inventions. And I even made a deck dedicated to the grixis ones: Mecha Hulk Warfare
But other than that, I want most of these!! ...And I can't afford them :(

K34 I am happy the Gearhulks made it into the "Kaladesh Inventions" and that's not sarcasm
September 12, 2016 7:10 p.m.
Huh. I really wasn't expecting to be in the minority here. I mean the power level between the gearhulks vs all the other cards in the inventions is just so disparate. To me it's like printing Evolving Wilds as one of the BFZ expeditions. But, to each his own.
September 12, 2016 7:38 p.m.
They are all so pretty, especially the new hangerback walker.
September 12, 2016 9 p.m.
If you want an honest chance you'd need to buy around 4 :(
September 12, 2016 9:18 p.m.
Eliminate the Competition
Sorcery
Basically: Sac x creatures, destroy x creatures.
Seems great in a tokens deck, although 5 mana places it really high on the curve... doubt it'll see much play.

OMFG THEY REPRINTED LIKE EVERY NON-POWER NINE GOOD ARTIFACT THAT MADE SENSE TO BE IN KALADESH KFHEKMEFHISJS
Okay. I'm calmed down now.
Holy shit i'm increasing the box count to 3 here. Wish me luck.

The bottom line is my hopes of making a sweet displacer deck are dashed since I can't get two colours and colourless off one land. Having energy counters is conditional, and seems that having that card in a deck just to get colourless, you might as well just have wastes, and we have no idea how much value we'd have to sacrifice from our displacer deck to get the energy counters to make aether hub tap for colours... like maybe there are etb gain energy creatures? There are probably a few. Now we're doing a deck thats more about energy than using displacer.... its just too many hoops to jump through, a straight energy generating deck with a bunch of really good energy pay-off cards would probably be better without having to worry about having displacer payoff creatures that might not synergize with the energy plan. And the mana would be terrible, (I would venture,) if it was in three colours.

DanLane, I have been running into similar issues with the colorless mana for Eldrazi Displacer and have in fact dropped it in favor of Panharmonicon in some of my brews.

AwezomePozzum says... #23
DanLane: I see the problem. But if you would be trying to make a pure energy deck, Aether Hub could potentially allow a tricolor manabase along with the allied dual lands from BFZ and the enemy fast lands from Kaladesh.

Not a big fan of reprints but I like how Wizards is making some old staples a bit more accessible. And it allows new players to feel the utter beauty of them if they're just playing around casually. Nice move on Wizards part.

AwezomePozzum save your money and buy the Expos as single cards ;)
Oh yeah, and I previously stated that Kaladesh was so weak it would have to include a Mox....but wow, I mean two reprinted Moxen just prove how hard it is to sell Standard in todays Eternal format lovin' marketplace!

Wizards said that the Inventions reprints were due to: "Players were having trouble getting access to older, often more powerful cards."
Inventions Sol Ring listed for $280 buy it now on eBay - so if the idea was to make cards cheaper and more accessible EPIC FAIL lolz
Why can't they just admit that these new foils are for the sole purpose of boosting sales?

Authority of the Consulate
Enchantment
Creatures your opponents control enter the battlefield tapped.
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your opponent's control, you gain 1 life.
Okay so apparently huge tempo swings aren't going to cost any mana whatsoever any more lol
September 13, 2016 12:12 a.m.
Still not as good as Blind Obedience, but I can see that going into soul sisters.
September 13, 2016 12:37 a.m.
Ugh, buying cards from the Masterpiece series just seems like a waste of money. I'm sure that I'm the only one disgusted by the art and border styles they use.
"The Gearhulks are absolutely not unplayable. 6 mana on a 6/6 body with a relevant ability passes the vanilla test pretty easily. Add to the fact that it draws you cards or burns out your opponent for a pretty big amount and it gets even better."
Oh, well if you're talking about limited, you'd be right. If you're not, then just play Emrakul instead. It's way better.
"Also, I specifically said Budget Affinity. Which it does do very well. If anything will make it into the actual affinity deck the only possibility is the looting vehicle so far. Just because it isn't top tier doesn't mean it won't go into a lot of the more amateur versions of the deck."
I wasn't talking specifically about you, just generally. It does concern me, though, that you think Copter is somehow playable in the deck. It just seems infinitely worse than Vault Skirge and Ornithopter.

honestly i like the look of the Masterpieces, i'm just personally not getting any of them. i'll let all the collectors do that, but theyre nice to look at IMO.
i'd like to think people who arent necessarily collectors, but just want to pimp their decks out to the fullest, would sooner or later attempt to replace the standard versions of the cards with the Masterpieces, and be willing to put more of the standard versions back on the market. i guess we'll see though.

DarkLaw You don't replace Skirge or any other 0-2 drop. You cut the top end. Most lists I've seen have been running a 2:3 Etched Champion:Master of Etherium. Copter has evasion and can craw you cards. Something affinity has needed since the deck dropped Thoughtcast due to colored mana sometimes being an issue.
I plan on going to 2 master, SBing the etched, and running 3 copters.

Well inventions may not make old cards less expensive, it does however make them more accessible. Even though these inventions are super rare, they still are being printed in a standard set. However small, there still is a possibility that you will find one. Now instead of buying some insanely high priced single (take Crucible), you have the chance to pull it.
September 13, 2016 6:45 a.m.
To me Kaladesh looked very interesting and I was planning on doing multiple pre-releases as well as get a box. With the printing of the Masters Series I'm planning to do the same, but I'm happy I might pull a bonus card. The big difference between Kaladesh and BFZ and OGW is that Kaladesh appealed to me a lot BEFORE they announced the Masters Series, while the Expeditions in BFZ were one of the appealing things to attend prerelease and draft.
This means that I'll be happy to pull a Masters Series card, but I won't feel bad if I don't get one. I'm also very happy that the price of Chandra, Torch of Defiance and other nice cards from KLD will lower a bit thanks to the Masters Series (and the opening of loads of packs by all players)
September 13, 2016 7:36 a.m.
I'm right there with ya, Chandrian. If Kaladesh were a relatively poor set like BFZ/Gatewatch, I wouldn't be falling for the masterpiece series ploy, but so far it looks like one of the cooler sets I've seen in a while, so the added bonus of maybe getting a $160 Sol Ring is just icing on the cake right now!

Tell me i'm not the only one who noticed a similarity between Dovin's -1 and a certain Filigree Familiar.
Im sad that it isn't in the art somewhere!

YES!!!! I was hoping that Dovin Baan would be a 4 drop that gives tempo abilities so I have something for my spirit deck, and I must say I am happy, the only thing left to make this set amazing is a good Counterspell to replace Clash of Wills.

September 13, 2016 12:16 p.m.
Scrapheap Scounger seems really good in a Standard Zombies build. Especially if you made room for an Eternal Scourge. Either way the synergy with Prized Amalgam is oh so real. It's no Gravecrawler, but I'll take it as a substitute that is Standard legal.

In regards to the unspoiled Legend I hope it's in colors with an ETB effect
September 13, 2016 12:17 p.m.
I don't, I'm completely ready for Bant to take a turn on the back burner of the Standard Meta. CoCo has burned my out on Bant for quite a while.
September 13, 2016 12:20 p.m.
Ohthenoises It doesn't net you cards and can only function as a weak threat by tapping another threat you have. I'm not a fan.
chaoswalker I think it's just you. It certainly is nowhere near as good as Nahiri.
