They don't count as creatures so long as you don't try to cast the collosus post-combat.

There should be a creature that has P/T equal to the number of energy counters you have. Like "Energizer Bunny" or something similar. With a way to get more energy counters.
September 14, 2016 12:36 a.m.
"Getting them down to 3-4 and then having your only creature (due to removal/blocks/etc) be inkmoth is really bad cause it feels like you have to start all over again. In that case, paying (effectively) to animate copter for normal damage is insanely worth."
Don't they still have one of the aforementioned removal spells then? And why run it over Etched Champion? That's the stuff I really want to know.
I am reminded of the many times I have seen a flying whale on various media.

I'm hopelessly anticipating a respectable counterspell for the game of Magic. It reads pay : Add 1 Counter target spell unless they pay equal to amount of energy you have. crowd of players cheer

i bet there will be something along the lines of "counter target spell with CMC equal to or less than how much you have" and likely with an additional cost of paying or as well, to keep from you saving up a ton and being able to counter anything.
September 14, 2016 1:55 a.m. Edited.
If they are gonna do an Energy based counter my guess is it'll be like Syncopate but the is Energy and it's double . It makes for a really strong counter but will take all of your Energy when you use it to make sure the opponent can't pay.
What would be really cruel is if they made it so you used Energy and your opponent had to pay using energy instead of mana. That would basically force you into playing Energy cards. Most forced mechanic in the history of MTG lol.
I should note I don't think any of this will really happen. : )

Reading the comments on Mythic Spoilers is hilarious. People are forgetting that land is a permanent, which essentially makes this a counterspell if you've not played a land drop and it's your turn.
Also the bounce is effectively uncounterable.
People are calling it a 'strictly worse Cancel'
September 14, 2016 7:20 a.m.
Named_Tawyny,
Sure there are some edge cases where it's useful, but in general the card is terrible. A strickly way-worse Void Shatter.
September 14, 2016 7:37 a.m.
Named_Tawyny that's because it is strictly worse. They took Cancel and put an additional cost on it that you could never pull off in control.
You will either have to add back land (which in most cases puts you behind), or a creature (which will make it far more easier for the opponent to swing in and win).
There are a few instances where it's not horrifically bad (eg, you top decked something that has an additional cost of discard a card), but that's best case scenario. Worst case scenario, you counter a spell, and bounce a land. Your next draw gives you a spell you can't cast because you don't have enough/the right mana.
OR you counter a spell, bouncing a creature. Your opponent then plays a hasty creature, having baited out your counter, and swings at you for game.
Midrange strategies could use it, but there's better options in Unsubstantiate, Negate, Horribly Awry, hell even Broken Concentration.
September 14, 2016 8:13 a.m.
The best-case scenaria for the counter is when you don't have a land in hand and haven't played a land yet, you counter something, return a land and play it untapped immediately netting you one extra mana in this turn. Sad thing is this best case scenario can only happen during your turn. There's so many "if"s that it's not worth it.

I still think Void Shatter is a much better counter.
September 14, 2016 8:34 a.m.
Don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but Perpetual Timepiece looks good.
It doesn't shuffle everything in your grave away, so you can keep all your dead draws in your grave. Late game it can give you re-use out of all of your best spells (primarily referring to pre release).
Not to mention it will also give you self mill to set up your grave. I might add this to my reanimator EDH deck, but Loaming Shaman is slightly better for the recursion, and there's plenty of self mill.
The reason to add this, would be so I had a response to Bojuka Bog

Creative Spark - R
Sorcery, Uncommon
"Choose target creature. Exile the top card of your library. You may have Creative Spark deal damage to that creature equal to the converted mana cost of the exiled card. If you don't, you may play that card until end of turn"
Seems pretty interesting and has potential

Now that's speaking MY language! :D
And then there's this:

Damn, that legend for 1 green mana seems VERY nice to make a an EDH deck around. You get tokens, but it won't attract the hate like Rhys the Redeemed I think.

Oviya looks sweet. Not sure which, if any, formats it's best in. Seems quite slow and expensive, but nice pay-off.
Refurbish is actually a reprint of some rare that's almost 20 years old. Forget the name but it has one a funny picture of this fat guy on it.
September 14, 2016 12:19 p.m.
Prophetic Prism is exactly what you want for color fixing in limited. Of the other cards only the sparl is decent.
September 14, 2016 12:19 p.m.
I wonder if someone will be super lucky and get this awesome start at prerelease:
- T1: Mountain, Mana Crypt, Lathnu Hellion
- T2: Mountain, Chandra, Torch of Defiance, +1 chandra, Thriving Grubs
- T3: Combustible Gearhulk
Your opponent must feel like you're playing 2 entirely different games...
September 14, 2016 12:28 p.m.
Modern Dredge. Maybe run Spirit Guide. That card is INSANE.
September 14, 2016 1:06 p.m.
Not subbing so please @ me to reply
Holy fuck, Cathartic Reunion. I've been playing Dredge/reanimator/rally variants exclusively for like 2-3 years now and this is about to be so potent. This is huge. Brewing abound.
September 14, 2016 1:31 p.m.
Too bad Pyromancer's Goggles is rotating, it would be the nutter butters with that.
Seems like it would be good in limited with Refurbish type effects, but not that great on its own. It's an even worse topdeck when you're hellbent than Tormenting Voice. Of course it will be a great delirium and madness enabler in standard though.

00xtremeninja says... #37
ooooo gonna order some playsets foiled of reunion. that will slot nicely into daretti edh
September 14, 2016 1:48 p.m.
Jay - exactly man. I played variants of Legacy Dredge for a long time, but have been holding off in Modern since it seemed a bit unreliable. This card seems SO huge for Modern, especially -- even if other formats probably don't want / need it.

New white Rare
Captured by the Consulate
3W
Enchantment - Aura
Enchant creature you don't control.
Enchanted creature can't attack.
Whenever an opponent casts a spell, if it has a single target, change the target to enchanted creature if able.

Can we talk about how they made a better Tormenting Voice in a dredge shell?
September 14, 2016 3:05 p.m.
This will be insane in dredge. You can easily get like 15 cards in the graveyard with this and a few dredgers.
September 14, 2016 4:04 p.m.
I really like captured by the consulate. I think it could be very good in a deck with new nissa.
September 14, 2016 4:32 p.m.
I wish the last 100 cards or so were all artifacts... :'(
Foundry inspector is sweet.

Huh, my Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer EDH deck I have been working on would really like Metalwork Colossus. Also, Combustible Gearhulk approves.
