I'm gonna play ALL the limited.

September 18, 2016 2:29 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #2

It's better than your average set, but not as good as I had hoped for. In fact, I abandoned the Kaladesh hype train the moment Amonkhet was released bc death and Bolas.

September 18, 2016 3:07 p.m.

Sai says... #3

@DarkLaw What means "bc death"?

September 19, 2016 10:39 a.m.

kanokarob says... #4

Because death.

September 19, 2016 10:46 a.m.

Sai says... #5

So who has died?

September 19, 2016 11:41 a.m.

Anyone Bolas looks at

September 19, 2016 11:55 a.m.

Bovine073 says... #7

Well actually Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker doesn't destroy creatures all that well :3

September 19, 2016 12:04 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #8

I'm talking about the flavor of Amonkhet regarding death.

September 19, 2016 12:32 p.m.

Sai says... #9

Oh okay

September 19, 2016 1:02 p.m.

Aztraeuz says... #10

Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker kills other Planeswalkers.

He bends creatures to his will and utterly destroys any Planeswalker that tries to stand in his way.

Nicol Bolas is love, Nicol Bolas is life. All hail our Golden God!!

Atony1400 says... #12

Does anyone know what Kaladesh cards are missing from the database? Looking to get the set finished by Wednesday or Thursday the latest.

September 19, 2016 8:57 p.m.

Vortexflame says... #13

I'm not sure what you're missing, but it seems that you've put some of the Masterpiece cards in the Kaladesh database when they're not actually part of the set. Also I think the capitalization on Dramatic reversal is messed up.

September 19, 2016 11:10 p.m.

Atony1400 says... #14

Vortexflame, we purposey put inventions in Kaladesh for right now, but we'll be mocong them to their own set soon.

I'll fix Dramatic reversal.

Thanks for the reply!

September 20, 2016 7:07 a.m.

Chandrian says... #15

You're missing some reprints quite likely:

AEther Tradewinds is still the previous version.

I think you're missing one other blue and one white, but didn't track down which ones yet.

September 20, 2016 7:28 a.m.

Chandrian says... #16

You have all blues (one seemed to be hiding in the column of black, that's why I missed it). You have 2x Marionette Master in the list, once in japanese or chinese.

Disappearing Act is still in German.

You are missing one black: Mind Rot -> Mind Rot

So now I think only a white is missing... unless the count drops with 1 because of the double Marionette Master

September 20, 2016 7:40 a.m.

Chandrian says... #17

In white you're missing Inspired Charge -> Inspired Charge

Sorry for the triple post, let me know if you're still missing anything.

September 20, 2016 7:44 a.m.

Atony1400 says... #18

All fixed Chandrian, except there's no english picture for Disappearing Act yet.

Is it possible that the card Midnight Oil could be implying that Phyrexia will invade Kaladesh, or is its name merely a coincidence?

September 21, 2016 1:17 a.m.

Flaggx19 says... #20

I don't see Terrain Elemental in the KLD spoiler or card database.

September 21, 2016 1:57 p.m.

genericaura says... #21

DemonDragonJ Based off the older translated version of the card, it's name is Night Owl in at least one other language. It's probably not hinting at anything, but that doesn't mean New Phyrexia won't show.

September 21, 2016 2:01 p.m.

AwezomePozzum says... #22

Um, you're missing some of the masterpeices, Sol Ring included.

September 21, 2016 2:38 p.m.

Atony1400 says... #23

Flaggx19, have a link to its mythic spoiler page?

September 21, 2016 5:26 p.m.

Guftders says... #24

DemonDragonJ Ever heard of the phrase "Burning the midnight oil"? :)

The card represents someone going through the night working on a project. You draw extra cards every turn because you're trying to get more crammed in to the time you're awake in. And then the decreasing hand size represents you struggling to stay awake

September 21, 2016 5:52 p.m.

Flaggx19 says... #25

It looks there are 10 cards that are in Planeswalker Decks (Standard Legal, Not in main set) at the bottom of page.

September 21, 2016 8:31 p.m.

Atony1400 says... #27

AwezomePozzum, yes we know. Our main priority is to get the main set done first, then we'll add all the inventions.

September 21, 2016 8:38 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #28

Guftders, yes, now I understand.

September 22, 2016 1:51 a.m.

kengiczar says... #29

So a phyrexian version of Burning the midnight oil would have an entirely different meaning. It would be people lighting fire to the encroaching phyrexian oil that surrounds their lands until one day the oil has crept so closely around them that they are left holding a torch with no room to move.

Imagine being surrounded by a sea of phyrexian oil and when you light yourself on fire to escape the horrible transformation the oil quickly seems to "jump" on top of you as if to deny your final deathwish.

Man I love it when MTG gets metal. This is the kind of gritty reboot that Batman only wishes he could achieve lol.

September 22, 2016 4:21 a.m.

kanokarob says... #30

I like how you said you like when mtg gets metal, when you made all that up just there XD.

It can get metal, but it has not done so here.

Does anyone have any tips for the prerelease tomorrow? I have everything ready (sleeves, extra sleeves for blowouts, scratch paper, D20s, etc) but I feel unprepared for some reason. I haven't been going over the prerelease reviews on what would be good or bad.

September 22, 2016 4:03 p.m.

Alucard2121 says... #32

just remember, play vehicles first, then follow up with next turn creatures to crew into them to swing.

September 22, 2016 4:18 p.m.

genericaura says... #33

What archetypes will be best in limited? I have no idea what to do at the prerelease.

September 22, 2016 5:33 p.m.

iBleedPunk says... #34

I'm with genericaura on that

September 22, 2016 5:55 p.m.

Aztraeuz says... #35

I prefer Aggro at Prerelease events. Control is typically limited, so fast Aggro is the way to go typically.

I honestly rarely include anything with CMC of 4 or 5, and never anything higher.

September 22, 2016 6:57 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #36

Here's a thread on the Limited Resources subreddit about the different archetypes, and here's an article by Marshall Sutcliffe about the set's mechanics at first look.

September 22, 2016 7:53 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #37

I would like to go to the prerelease for this set, but I am instead going to a medieval renaissance fair with my friends over that weekend, which I am certain I will enjoy much more thoroughly. I rarely ever win at prereleases or open valuable cards at them, so I feel that I am not missing much by not attending this one. I do, however, plan to attend the prerelease for Aether Revolt, to balance not attending the Kaladesh prerelease.

September 23, 2016 12:43 a.m.

Souljacker says... #38

Contrary to iAzire, I prefer grindy decks for sealed. Since card pools are usually not optimal enough to build a good aggro curve, I tend to focus on the most value cards for a long game, since games usually go long.

I rarely play 1 drops, and 2 drops need to be relevant in the late game (like an activated ability, or something like deathtouch). Make sure to have a couple of bombs in your deck, and enough removal to last long enough to play them.

But most importantly, don't try to force any kind of deck, but play what your pool gives you, make sure you have a good curve and healthy amount of creatures. If the colors of your bombs don't have that, focus on another color and splash the bomb color. Bombs usually are for the late game so by that time you should have your splash color mana.

September 23, 2016 7:23 a.m.

genericaura says... #39

GoldGhost012 and Souljacker: Thanks! I've only played one draft of Con2 so I haven't quite figured limited out yet. If I had this advice then I might've won. (The others were also total newbies and I would have won if my fliers were more than two 1/1s.)

September 23, 2016 1:27 p.m.

I try and go based on what colors have the strongest common/uncommon pool since that is what you will be seeing the most of.

My initial thoughts on the colors for limited are that black and green are probably the best on their own (not that you will play mono though). Black has a lot of relevant removal at very common rarities and green's power level at common and uncommon makes it very strong against black and reds removal.

White is very good all around with less wow factor than black and green but it has a lot of solid cards that are worth playing if you have them. It also has a lot of removal that will hit bigger stuff that blacks common removal might not.

I think Red is the most splashy color, it doesn't seem as aggro focused as it has in past sets which makes its good cards fit in almost any color pairing much better. I won't think twice about splashing red in any energy heavy or removal light combinations to try and get a little lift.

Blue has the weakest set of commons in my opinion but as always can be very useful for draw and artifact engines and whatnot.

My plan is to try and primary black or green and pair it with one of the other three based on my best pulls.

Of course its always dependent on the pulls. I just like to know which colors are most likely to pop up with better options in later packs/picks

Peema Outrider is a common I will be looking to grab a ton of.

Well that midnight prerelease was the most fun I've ever had at one.

I cosplayed as Chandra, including dyeing my hair, and the shop owner decided to give me a free deck box for my troubles.

We also took a photo recreacting Diabolic Tutor. He has long black hair so he played Liliana to my Chandra.

I sat with good friends, so had people to share the news of decent cracks with.

I was lucky enough to get most of the cards that I'm going to use for my Standard deck, so I built a limited version of that.

Basically a lot of Artifacts and Vehicles.

My games went 2-0, 2-0, 1-2, 2-1. Best prerelease deck I've ever built.

The match I lost was against someone cosplaying as baby Chandra, so that was kind of cool.

I opened the Red Gearhulk, Fumigate, and Saheeli Rai, along with quite a few Rare Vehicles.

When I got home I constructed my Thopter.

Definitely a night I will remember.

We are very advanced.

I was going to go to the first prerelease but I decided to wait. About seven hours to the next one.

September 24, 2016 5:51 a.m.

greyninja says... #45

I went 5-0 at the midnight prerelease yaaaaay!

1x Minister of Inquiries
2x Thriving Turtle
1x Vedalken Blademaster
1x Wind Drake
2x Glint-Sleeve Artisan
4x Thriving Ibex
1x Cloudblazer
1x Torrential Gearhulk
1x Aethersquall Ancient
2x Accomplished Automaton

2x Select for Inspection
2x AEther Tradewinds
1x Cultivator's Caravan
1x Inspired Charge
1x Failed Inspection

8x Plains
9x Island

Thriving turtle and ibex are really good, especially with aether tradewinds. Aether tradewinds is nasty with torrential gearhulk. Inspired charge is game winning with cards like glint-sleeve and accomplished automaton.

My last game I bounced the cloudblazer at least 4-5 times. My opponent was shocked. We'd never seen a boardstate like that at prerelease ever.

I honestly didn't think I had a great pool, with my promo being a Dubious Challenge, but the synergy was solid and I never changed out a single card once I started. SO STOKED! The best I've ever done at a prerelease in the past was 3rd. Tonight/today (?) I took 1st!!!

I didn't bother to go to the midnight one at my local game store but I heard someone already opened a Kaladesh invention, it was a Steel Overseer.

I will be going to 3 prereleases throughout the day now though.

She played u/w control first round and dropped the Consul T3. Fun times were had.

I had too much work, I couldn't go to the prerelease ;_;

September 24, 2016 11:30 a.m.

kanokarob says... #49

Well I went 1-2 at my midnight prerelease. My first match was horrid, but I won my second match and the third was fun despite losing in the end. My deck performed well enough.

I opened Demon of Dark Schemes so I went with UB energy with fabricate to make a bunch of servos for the demon, some killspells for their larger things so I could steal them, etc. I was cool when it worked out.

Only one invention got pulled, apparently it was a Chrome Mox.

I have a feeling B/x fabricate with the demon could be a thing in standard. But I don't play standard too much so I'm not authority on that.

I attended the midnight prerelease. Ended up going 3-1 with an Abzan build before dropping out after round 4. My box foil was Bomat Courier
