CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES??? MORE LOKE VEHICLES IN CARD GAMES!!
September 2, 2016 2:42 p.m.
So are those all of the mechanics? I was hoping for Chandra today, oh well. I'm not gonna complain because these cards look sweet.

That Crew mechanic is so cool. Sometimes I forget how clever Wizards can be with their keywords.
And I don't see what's so confusing about energy counters. They stick to you like poison counters, but you use them to pay costs like you do with mana. Pretty simple, really.

Something to note about the energy mechanic is that "you" get the counters not the artifact. This means that there's other ways to acquire energon and you could potentially drop and activate in one go

Im not sure I like the direction Magic is going honestly. But then I will always be more of a high fantasy type.
This set may be overly futuristic for me. Not saying it doesn't make sense as far and etherium and such are concerned just not sure I wanted to see it.
Vehicles seem clunky.

Subtype Aetherborn? That's cool! I will definitely try to brew around him
September 2, 2016 3:32 p.m.
I don't know viable he'll be, but I love that his effect is an ETB effect and not a cast trigger like they've been pushing quite a bit lately. Blink shenanigans still survive!
September 2, 2016 3:37 p.m.
LittleBlueHero says... #25
Yeah he will fit nicely into Black and White Decks that like to blink. As a commander though he doesn't do much.
I am digging the new subtype though. I thought that art posted a while back was just an etherium dude in armor... now I understand why he had pieces of him missing.

Saheeli is okay. She is restrictive though. One of the most restrictive PWs I have seen for some time. Lili proves that it can be easy for a 3cmc Walker to tick up (with protection) but we really need good targets.
Aetherworks Marvel just isn't the kind of card that sees competitive play, but I will find a way to make a 10/10 janky deck with it. There's also a bad Arc Trail.
September 2, 2016 3:46 p.m.
Oh damn, I didn't see that artifact.
I misread crew as "chew". And I was oddly okay with it.

Oh man, Aetherworks Marvel is a way better Jar of Eyeballs that definitely makes me want to whip up a casual Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker artifact combo deck.

Questions/Ideas for Gonti, Lord of Luxury:
Let's say I exile a Time Reversal. I cast it, it resolves, then exiles itself as part of its effect. Based on Gonti's text, can I still cast that card, because it's the same card and its still exiled?
Now let's say I bounce Gonti and exile another card. Can I still cast the previous card exiled with him too, or does that become unavailable, kind of like how Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge works?

I still don't understand why the wording of energy counters is the way it is... why is the symbol necessary?
September 2, 2016 5:39 p.m.
OH MY GIDDY AUNT RASHMI
So so stoked for a simic commander that DOESN'T revolve around counters...

Raging_Squiggle says... #43
Momir Vig, Simic Visionary doesn't care about counters..
September 2, 2016 5:53 p.m.
I'm more than a little concerned that those energy counters are going to be one of those awful parasitic mechanics that make it impossible to play with outside of limited.
September 2, 2016 6:01 p.m.
They wanted to differentiate between Energy counters and +1/+1 counters at a glance of the card.
Notice how so far none of the cards that deal with +1/+1 counters can put them onto other creatures. Notice how none of the cards with Energyize can put +1/+1 counters on themselves.
This makes it so you don't have to worry about what kind of counters are on the card when people put dice on them after you initially look at the card your opponent puts down.

@Podma101
1) No, you can't cast it again, it's a different object... I think?
2) Yes, you can cast the cards as long as they remained exiled, a different (better?) ability than Jeleva's

The Energy Counters go on the player like Poison Counters or Experience Counters kengiczar
EDIT: kengiczar my comment stems from semi understanding your last comment. It was just worded weird to me lol
September 2, 2016 6:25 p.m. Edited.
@ Lame_Duck - Every Energy counter card we've seen so far works powerfully enough on it's own to be worth playing in either standard or EDH. That cannot be said of many other set specific mechanics.
@ Faceless_Being - No worries I did misread part of the card. I missed that the counters go on the player not the card so you were right to tell me so.
September 2, 2016 6:28 p.m. Edited.
I'll say this now: cards with crew are going to be unreliable. Standard may be dominated by creatures, but sometimes you won't be able to activate it to kill a Liliana, sometimes you don't want to tap down your creatures at all, and sometimes it's too slow.
Skysoverign isn't a splashy mythic, and I'm not even sure if it will work for more limited purposes. Emrakul just seems better to build around, you know?
Ah, well. I might get mowed down for saying that.
Somehow I'm not impressed so far. Only one mythic has truly captured my attention for being janky.
September 2, 2016 6:36 p.m.
The legendary artifact and the Fair did grab my attention for sure. Captain Sisay is interested... they will at least get some trail runs.
For the rest I am not in awe yet. But it's still spring in the Kaladesh spoiler season.
