Still missing cards 250-269, at least as far as I could tell.

I'm wondering if Become Immense could work in infect other than that there's nothing that really interests that hasn't already been spoiled.

162 out of 269

That has modern eggs potential, if playing against someone who doesn't use emrakul

Has anyone noticed the complete lack of low cost removal in this set?

This is going to be a pretty dull midrange format probably. Well, it would have been if we hadn't have been given decent enough stuff in theros.

It runs the risk of playing like: I play a larger creature than yours then turn it sideways and win herp derp.

I guess they need to balance the midrange tendencies of the set (lots of 4cmc+ creatures) with killspells that aren't too cheap. I mean if killspells cost 2 and creatures that are playable cost 4 then the control player always wins because of the tempo advantage.

Unfortunately for them (the midrange players), we still have some good options with theros (hero's downfall, bile blight etc) - so things could get interesting. It will provide SOME restraint on people who only want to play large things.

Defiant Strike seems to be a solid cantrip. +1/+0, first strike, and draw a card, instant one white mana. Might help aggro decks and/or heroic decks become a tad more resilient.

September 12, 2014 12:18 p.m.

weisemanjohn says... #12

@ChiefBell

Quit trying to restrain my play style! All those damn control cards make me want to flood the field faster! You have creatures, use them! Meet me in the field of combat(step) and should you win, you have bested me, but to use removal is a disgrace to my creatures!

September 12, 2014 12:36 p.m.

JakeHarlow says... #13

Despise is back! That and Thoughtseize means we've got a good deal of fast removal in black. Sort of.

I'm excited for how much filtering sultai has. No drawing lands late game for me!

September 12, 2014 12:46 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #15

Meh. Everything is over costed and while BUG has the best flavor it seems to have got the worst cards. Bah

September 12, 2014 12:52 p.m.

Ezrius says... #16

Now worshipping at Altar of the Brood, Rhys the Redeemed .

September 12, 2014 1:07 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #17

I think I might play BUG

Altar of the Brood goes awesome with Sidisi, Brood Tyrant

September 12, 2014 1:13 p.m.

Was hoping for better use of Crodile Pits in Sultai... such a cool concept (and one of my favorite animals) Instead we get overcosted removal and an overcosted sac engine...

I NEED MORE CROCODILES IN MY LIFE

So... now that everything is spoiled, I have to ask...

WTF is Ugin's Nexus going to do in Limited???

Not 1 other card gains extra turns in the set, and the only ways to kill this is Shatter , Naturalize , and Sultai Charm . - Are they really expecting us to use 2 cards in combination to get any use?

I understand it is for "Flavour"... but I would hate to open this in any limited format.

Zuckfat says... #20

Oh man, that art for dutiful return... so cool

Also, red gets an awesome draw card.

September 12, 2014 1:23 p.m.

On that note I would love to cast Death Frenzy after a Polymorphist's Jest .

Nom nom delicious frogs...

September 12, 2014 1:24 p.m.

Gienah says... #22

Death Frenzy

This card wins the spot for favorite art and flavor text.

Look at the horse getting ripped apart, omg, I'll take 50 foils please.

September 12, 2014 1:43 p.m.

JakeHarlow says... #23

Temur looks pretty cool. I think I'll explore that a bit more...it seems like it and Mardu have the best shots of playing at a respectable tempo.

A lot of over costed cards. Methinks they're serious about slowing down the format? Looks like 20 cards are missing from the spoiler...249/269 are shown, and we have all the basic lands. So what could it be? Promo cards perhaps?

I don't know what Ugin's Nexus is for inside the set/block, but my Shattergang Brothers EDH deck might find a use for it...

September 12, 2014 1:48 p.m.

I know I'll be playing some janky deck with Ugin's Nexus , Ensoul Artifact , and Shrapnel Blast . It will be very fun but very inconsistent, lol.

September 12, 2014 1:54 p.m.

TexasDice says... #25

I'm really not cool with white becoming the main removal color. That is blacks job and it should be blacks job again.

September 12, 2014 2 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #26

TexasDice - White has 6 removal spells, but black has 8. How does that make White the main removal color?

September 12, 2014 2:07 p.m.

capriom85 says... #27

APPLE01DOJ, you can probably use Pharika, God of Affliction here too

September 12, 2014 2:12 p.m.

JakeHarlow says... #28

Anybody think Soldier of the Pantheon will see more love now that there are more playable multicolor cards entering the mix?

September 12, 2014 2:25 p.m.

shuflw says... #29

@Rayenous

the point of Ugin's Nexus being mythic rare is to open it the least amount of times possible in draft. so it really has no point in limited.

September 12, 2014 2:33 p.m.

Zuckfat says... #30

Soldier of the Pantheon will see play and will be awesome still.

September 12, 2014 2:45 p.m.

TexasDice says... #31

JWiley129 The white removal is better cheaper and better. Just like in M15.

September 12, 2014 2:45 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #32

TexasDice - Conditional removal is cheaper but weaker than Unconditional removal. Smite the Monstrous and Kill Shot are cheaper b/c they require conditions, but they aren't better than Murderous Cut or Rite of the Serpent

September 12, 2014 3:35 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #33

its a removal-low set. In that it is like m15

September 12, 2014 3:46 p.m.

Blizzicane says... #34

Well they certainly completed the task of slowing down standard. But that won't stop me from playing Mono Black Aggro! >:3

September 12, 2014 4:44 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #35

Still no Johnny support. Still not playing standard.

We got a lot of EDH/Commander fun stuffs though :D

The five legendary creatures especially.

September 13, 2014 9:30 a.m.

TheRedDude says... #36

APPLE01DOJ what synergy?

September 13, 2014 10:02 a.m.

NixTheThird says... #37

I'm actually considering just playing a straight BUG list with no graveyard interactions at all. Those colors actually have access to decent removal, counter spells and the like. It then gets to bring in solid creates to finish off the opponent with things like courser and caryatid in the early again for inevitable aggro decks.

Honesty I want to make a graveyard deck with sidisi and the crew, but after testin out different I ideas I just don't feel so good about it's consistency.
