What do you guys think?
Seems like there was something that got changed during the last steps of R&D
He's much better in EDH than he will be in Standard, but he is pretty good. Bant Walkers can use him for awhile before the deck rotates out.

I honestly do not get the second ability. I can see Kruphix being used in Bant control and now Sphinx's Revelation will be, in a sense, more powerful in those decks since now they can keep all the cards that they draw without having to worry about having too many cards.
If anyone has an idea what the second idea does or how it works I would love to hear it!
April 10, 2014 12:27 a.m.
The second ability is basically an effect similar to Omnath, Locus of Mana where it stops the mana from emptying from your mana pool as steps and phases end and instead converts it 1 for 1 from what it was to colorless mana. (Read, had 3 mana, entered combat, it becomes 3 colorless mana instead of leaving)

tap out at their end step a couple times then slam your deck on them after you explode a Sphinx's Revelation all over their face.

From what I've heard, you basically can tap mana at the end of any phase, and it will carry over between phases (and turns), essentially allowing you to "store" mana. Works crazy well with Prophet of Kruphix .
April 10, 2014 12:31 a.m.
But it still drains at EOT? Seems ok, but not really overpowering.
April 10, 2014 12:31 a.m.
Well his second ability would be great for sphinx's revelation because it allows you to keep colourless mana that way when you need card draw you have tonnes of mana to use to draw. Him with Prophet of Kruphix gets even more deadly because you get more disposable mana. He will definitely be good in EDH
April 10, 2014 12:32 a.m.
Seems like they could have worded it a little better. If it never drains that's...just...plain...SILLY! Dang.

RCMetalhead You tap all your mana at the end of your turn, turning it into colorless mana that floats forever until you decide to spend it on an overloaded Cyclonic Rift .

it stays until Kruphix is removed from play, like Omnath, Locus of Mana

The end step is a phase as well DrFunk27. I'm gonna try and get a copy for my defender deck to make my massive ramp not completely useless at times.

OMG listen If you tap your land and dont spend it, instead of emptying out of your pool between phase it becomes colorless mana and remains in your pool until spent or the god is removed from play..period. EOT dosn't extinguish this replacement effect.

So... After playing Esper control in standard for a month and a half, I was already quite ready to switch it up a little into Bant control.
Then, Ajani was revealed, and I started thinking to myself... that's actually a pretty useful sideboard card. Easily protectable in Bant Control vs. other control match-ups, can make my mutavault's more powerful, can search for my other walkers, and when he ultimates, my opponent's Aetherling is no longer a threat... hmm, yea, definitely an awesome sideboard card.
...And then THIS was revealed. I actually almost started laughing like the insane when I saw this. I literally cannot believe they made this card. blackmarker90's already spotted it, but guys, seriously. Every single unused mana is saved towards Revelation. Your turn 7-12 Revelation is no longer X=4-7. It's X=10-15. Or maybe more. And you don't even have to discard anything.
Yea, you probably don't want to slam this down turn five, unless your opponent is tapped out or you just Verdict'd. But against control and midrange decks, this is going to be a game changer. The X=15 Mistcutter Hydra out of nowhere type of game changer.
April 10, 2014 1:15 a.m.
You can rack up a lot of mana and deck someone eventually with Blue Sun's Zenith . Maybe. Just a thought.

Jesus, omnath just got a new besty, or maybe a rival. What happens if you have both out?
This god loves to surprise you with sphinx's revelation.
"and i swing for the win"
"i gain 25 life and draw 25 cards, betting one is dodge."

The Doctor says... #25
If you have both out, green mana will stay green, everything else will turn colorless.
April 10, 2014 1:41 a.m.

@ the doctor
I'm pretty sure it will become colorless because kruphix changes it still.
April 10, 2014 1:45 a.m.
That is incorrect. Omnath, Locus of Mana prevents green mana from empying from your mana pool. Kruphix, God of Horizons only converts mana to colorless if it would empty from your mana pool, as Omnath wholesale prevents that the color to colorless change will not occur.
April 10, 2014 1:49 a.m.
This is a pretty interesting card. It may not be the first go-to card for standard, but I think it will see play. I can see myself using it, especially with bant walkers. I think that's gonna become a really strong deck with cards like this. Plus Ajani, Mentor of Heroes! , Elspeth, Sun's Champion and Kiora, the Crashing Wave are just going to continue contributing to the power of it.
None the less, I think this set is shaping up to be pretty interesting. I think it might actually pose some game changers to the meta for sure.

As a total block I think Theros is much stronger than its individual parts. The set by set power is far less than RTR but a a cohesive unit there are a lot of cohesive parts spanning the entire block instead of just one set.
April 10, 2014 2:02 a.m.
ok i dont get how hes good ok the color of the mana changes but it does empty how is he any good
April 10, 2014 2:14 a.m.
z2aaa: The floating mana changes to colorless and stays around like Omnath, Locus of Mana does for green. Any leftover mana, even if colorless, can be extremely powerful.
April 10, 2014 2:20 a.m.
I don't.
But.
What?
The mana doesn't go away. End of your opponent's, you tap, saaaay, 7 lands then untap and you still have 7 mana to use whenever you want, plus any more you add.
Seriously this thread = RTFC.
April 10, 2014 2:21 a.m.
leave it to wizerds to make blue/green op in edh i might aswell build the damn deck i dont wanna
April 10, 2014 2:22 a.m.
Your opponent did nothing worth responding t? You have a land or two left over? Float the mana with Kruphix, then untap with it still there. You could then theoretically have twice the mana to use on your own turn. It doesn't matter if it's colorless or not, either. Any extra mana is always good mana.

blackmarker90 says... #37
It makes it so that you aren't forced to spend your colored mana to pay the colorless part of a CMC now, therefore easing he burden on your mana and increasing the amount of plays you can make. Dissolve essentially becomes Counterspell with scry

Yes it provides a reason to tap out and say "Come at me bro; look at all my mana"
April 10, 2014 2:59 a.m.
This card brings new meaning to the play style "draw-go". Once you resolve one of these, your opponent virtually has to do stuff or you'll keep storing mana and cards, as you don't need to play anything, and you have a use for your mana. Storage :) You'll eventually Cyclonic Rift overload holding mana for 3 Dissolve s up.
April 10, 2014 3:22 a.m.
I don't get why people are having so much trouble understanding this card. Its a replacement effect that stops mana from draining from your pool and makes it colourless. There is literally nothing else too it than that.
Other than that, seems really good in commander, might see play in standard, but Bant walkers already has a lot of high cost cards, and this guy doesn't do a whole lot as soon as you play it. We'll see.
April 10, 2014 3:30 a.m.
koth_of_the_bummer: I'm pretty sure what you're looking for is just that -- Mistcutter Hydra .
Against control, one could potentially save up enough mana and draw enough cards to just explode with a single (or several) lethal Mistcutter Hydra s in just one turn. That's really cool to me.
Is it going to happen? I'm not sure. But it's a thought.
April 10, 2014 4:01 a.m.
I really don't know whether I like this card or whether I dislike this card. I think in standard it's not very good due to high casting cost and limited impact on the same turn it's played. In other formats such as EDH, I'm sure it'll be a hit. The only problem I have is that cards like Omnath, Locus of Mana exist and are arguably better. The no hand size thing is useful, but also Reliquary Tower is a cheap and widely played card. I really like that Kruphix is bringing both together but maybe it just doesn't do enough.
April 10, 2014 6 a.m.
RussischerZar says... #46
Well, Kruphix has the upside of being both cards in one and also being indestructible.
I really like the card and if I ever get my hands on one, it will instantly go into my Zegana EDH deck

Am I the only one planning to play this in Irindu (R/U/G)?
Either way, Kruphix is freaking sweet. No max hand size is great since you needmore cards to abuse Prophet's flash - plus look at the new dictate of kruphix :3
Then there is store all the mana for cards like cyclonic rift, Worldspine Wum, x spells in general etc...
April 10, 2014 7:53 a.m.
Maybe it would have a place in the Damia, Sage of Stone EDH deck I've been meaning to build. I feel like if I put it into a standard/modern deck, though, I'd be spending a lot of time trying to make it viable, instead of just playing a better card. Seems to rely too much on other effects to be beneficial.
At first I completely scoffed at it since Prophet of Kruphix is also 5 CMC, but I believe you can Prophet your turn and Kruphix on theirs. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that.
April 10, 2014 8:06 a.m.
in standard, if your opponent is doing nothing worth responding to and letting you bank 5+ mana with no pressure, you were probably winning anyway.
