M15 cards that speak to you

Now that it is spoiled (for the most part) which cards in this set really sing to you? Which ones do you think have the best art? Which ones do see getting lots of play and which ones do you see taking a jump in price early on. I know its hard to tell with a few of those questions until we see its supporting cast but i like to read threads and this one should be full of good insight from other players. i will say i see some pretty good stuff in there. I really like Life's Legacy giving mono green some draw power. The artwork on both of the demons is pretty righteous. I could see myself playing any of the new walkers and the all the soul creatures (avatars) could see play i would think. So what do you all think about M15? I am pretty happy with the over all look of it. One last question. What cards are you ready to see rotate out already?

Jace, the Living Guildpact! is really awesome, I think. there is lots of hate for it right now, but I think it has some serious potential.

Yeah, Life's Legacy seems good for Mono Green. I like the addition of Phyrexian Revoker and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth . The price of the last one is a bit high, so they want new players to have the opportunity to find them easily. The best part though is the planeswalkers. All of them have potential to see major Standard play.

nissa and ajani are my favorites, along with avacyn and soul of new phyrexia.

i don't dislike jace, i just don't see how he can be potentially good.

(hate to derail this thread, but would someone explain to me how he's good?)

I'm madly in love with Nissa, Worldwaker can't wait to be able to play her in my B/G Modern Rock :)

I love Nissa, and I think Ajani the Steadfast and Soul of Theros will be big players as well.

I was hating on the new Jace last night. But I calmed down and applied logic to my perspective. My new thought is: not only is he actually solid within the current pool of Standard cards, he's bound to have exciting new applications post-rotation. I keep saying this, but I think a graveyard-heavy BUG strategy might find him incredibly useful as a grave digger and a card filterer. Temporary removal of big threats, albeit at sorcery speed, is relevant. And his ult gives you enough card advantage to win.

And also, if you think about it, his abilities are totally on-flavor as per his Living Guildpact status. He makes compromises (first ability). He defers confrontation (second ability). He represents a new beginning for the relationship between all Ravnican guilds (his ultimate). In fact, that's his very purpose as the Living Guildpact.

The more I think about him, the more I like him. New flavor, balanced and useful abilities. Great art. 5 stars.

You don't need to play him in reanimator.

He bounces, he scry's (well sort of) and he gives you a one sided Time Reversal

JakeHarlow says... #15

No, he doesn't need to be played in reanimator. I just pointed out that he might have a nice home in such builds, in addition to his obvious applications in a variety of other solid decks.

Waste Not beckons me to use it in my edh deck and I can't wait to add it. I needed Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth but it was too expensive but now its finally seeing a reprint so that also wonderful. The walkers of the set look nice as well but are not my main interest. The only thing I really want to be in this set is Doom Blade so I can use it post-rotation. >:3

TexasDice: I'm currently making 2 decks with Chasm Skulker. One is an Izzet draw/burn, and the other is a Dimer Master of the Feast + Notion Thief + Dictate of Kruphix + Whispering Madness and some other cards as well. :3

I'm excited for Nissa, Worldwaker and Waste Not. I might even build a Modern deck for those cards just so I can keep using Abrupt Decay for more than a month.

June 27, 2014 11:59 p.m.

Ob Nixilis, Unshackled and Chief Engineer are the two that really stand out to me. Ob Nixilis just because he's a demon, and engineer just screams to be broken. M15 is shaping up to be one hell of a set to me personally.

@Portoman: Lavinia of the Tenth + Preeminent Captain . Just picture it for a moment :P

Quadsimotto says... #25

I could see Indulgent Tormentor and Chasm Skulker! working well together with a Dictate of Kruphix on the board. I know its said not to let your opponent make choices or to avoid cards like that but the tormentor seem pretty win win to me. Any of the three choices they make are beneficial to you. Unless of course elspeth is pooping out tokens and they have an endless supply of sackable creatures.Other then the toughness of this guy he seems awesome to me. Add in Ob Nixilis and he just gets fatter as they sac away. All the colors seemed to get some power houses but black seems to me to be the dominant color of great cards this go around.

With this set MONO white stands a great chance to see an uprising with soldier decks in standard format. I am glad they reprinted Raise the Alarm I wasnt playing when that card came around and have seen it just kill in modern decks.

WomboCombo I JUST REALIZED THAT! I am so going to attempt to abuse that RTR's around. I was thinking more of something like Preeminent Captain + Viashino Firstblade
