Interesting, eh?
How is Errant Ephemeron hard to explain. "You tap two lands, set it aside for four turns, and then cast it. The advantage is that you pay two instead of seven. The disadvantage is that you wait for turns."

You immediately gave up after they asked you how suspend works? Why? If you know how it works, it is really simple to explain
February 10, 2015 5:52 p.m.
The art on it is sick though, none the less it's explaining difficulty lol

The thing is that, while it is set aside for four turns and everything, that is NOT an easy concept for a new player to understand. The stack is a hard enough task to master at that point.
February 10, 2015 9:50 p.m.
The stack is much more difficult concept than suspend. Hell, priority, and the phases within phases, is probably the hardest thing to explain in the game, especially considering "combat" has like, five phases.

it's like this: "suspend means you pay the cost to remove it from the game for a number of turns indicated by the card. in this case, it is removed for 4 turns. so we put a die on it to show how many turns it has to be exiled. at the beginning of each of your turns before you draw, you tick the counter down. when you remove the last counter, you get to play the card for free."
that is a simple way to describe suspend

I think that the pre-planeswalkers/planeswalkers should say something like this "when this creature would leave the battlefield instead exile it till your next upkeep then return this card to play "transformed/flipped/leveled up" or whatever they are going to call it, that would be like the creature almost dying (wich is how most planeswalkers ignite their spark, not all just most) then having their fist "walk in the blind eternities" then when they get back (on your next upkeep) they are planeswalkers but that's just me
February 10, 2015 11:31 p.m.
That a pretty cool idea, but arnt transform cards expensive to print so Wotc said they wouldn't do it again ?
February 10, 2015 11:58 p.m.
Yea your right so then it would probably be more like a decent "draftable" creature with almost the same ability but rather than transform "search your deck for a insert card name and put it into play. That way if it's decent enough to draft WITHOUT the planeswalkers but awesome in conjunction with them if you get one or in standard

magic : orgins.. and reprints of old school .. by the name there must be something in there that might be worth a fortune :) Or maybe some secretly packed cards.

I really do not think they are going to have anything too great as far as reprints go for this final core set. I am sure there will be something to commemorate the ending of core sets but nothing major. I am hoping that they do some big reprints for 25th anniversary of the game however and would be highly disappointed if they don't. Anniversary is just a few years away.

Well, most large sets (Core or otherwise) in the past couple years have had at least one high-profile reprint. Khans had fetchlands, M15 had Chord of Calling and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Theros had Thoughtseize, Gatecrash and Return to Ravnica had Shocklands, M14 had Mutavault.
When WotC can use a standard reprint to manage the price of a card that they feel is unreasonable, they will, especially if the card will not break standard in half. I think it's almost completely certain that Origins is going to have SOME sweet reprint, but I don't think it will be significantly more than other sets.

JohnnyBaggins says... #14
I expect them to reprint the shocklands. I don't know why, but I have the feeling.
February 11, 2015 7:01 a.m.
Squisherton says... #15
They won't let fetch lands and shock lands be standard together. It would become mini modern.
February 11, 2015 7:21 a.m.
JohnnyBaggins says... #16
Yeah okay, you have a point there.
We'll see, we'll see.
February 11, 2015 7:53 a.m.
I am expecting the other half of the Pain Lands... but that's just a hypothesis based on WotC stating that they wouldn't print half of land cycles.
Though that would also mean we should be expecting the Zendikar Fetches soon as well.
February 11, 2015 7:53 a.m.
Oakenwind im almost positive they are not going to reprint shock lands. They literally just did this in RTR. If you missed that, youre probably out of luck.
Rayenous I think you are correct about the pain lands and Zendi fetches. I think were getting both of those REAL soon. I return to Zendikar is impending.
But on the topic at hand, Im really excited to hear about Lilianas origins. That spoiler art could potentially be a good and kind young lili. I saw "lilana the healer" some where. Looks like WoTC wants core sets to go out with a bang.
February 11, 2015 8:27 a.m.
JohnnyBaggins says... #19
Yea, I absolutely forget that the Shocklands were in RTR. But the other half of the Painlands is pretty damn likely, yes. I wouldn't say no to the enemy-paired fetches, too.
8vomit They stated in the FRFPT-Coverage that the first one is a young Lilliana when she still was a healer and the second one would me "more of the Liliana we know today".
February 11, 2015 9:09 a.m.
Correct me if I'm wrong... The announced 'Walkers are those with more than one version and only the same color in all of them?
Also, if the name makes more than one sense, why not bringing back some not-reserved classics? I'm looking at you, Lightning Bolt
February 11, 2015 9:32 a.m.
jandrobard says... #21
@Ghorrhyon Bolt would basically turn standard on it's head. More importantly it'll probably (I hope?) get reprinted in MM2.

Uh, Bolt would really, really annoy me in standard.
February 11, 2015 10:02 a.m.
How about a Bitterblossom or Sensei's Divining Top reprint? Naw that'd probably break standard.
February 11, 2015 10:42 a.m.
Nomeacuerdo says... #26
...or maybe they'll go to the origins of the game, where Craw Wurm was THE man.
February 11, 2015 11:26 a.m.
Nomeacuerdo says... #27
Or maybe they'll reprint Old Fogey along with other really old school mechanics from the time where 4 out of 5 printed creatures were walls.

@Rayenous: Honestly they are under no obligation to complete the cycle of painlands... Because that cycle was printed years ago! We already have Adarkar Wastes, Brushland, Underground River, Sulfurous Springs and Karplusan Forest. In the past few years wizards has often preferred the checklands (Glacial Fortress and friends) as their core set land... Painlands lands are already inexpensive too - although I wouldn't mind letting them ride the standard train before they likely go away forever.
One of the problem with the painlands is that they harken back to a time before WotC realized that lands are often reprinted and it's a better idea to have them have generic names. Any plane can have a Glacial Fortress on it but Shiv, Yavimaya, Llanowar, Koilos, the Adarkar Wastes and the Karplusan Mountains are actual places that exist (or in some cases existed) on Dominaria. If the core set stops being a thing, unless we return to Dominaria some day (which we will, probably) the painlands will not be reprintable.
That said, what I hope is that we will see the enemy-color checklands in origins, for not reason except that the ally-colored ones have been printed multiple times and the enemy-colored ones were only in Innistrad, which could make for a fairly hefty difference in pricetags between the two going forward (I mean, the ally-color ones are already around half as pricey in average, but we are talking 2$ versus 4$ so it hardly matters)
@jandrobard: The two are not mutually exclusive. Wizards is antsy about overreprinting stuff when that would completely destroy their market value, but bolt, however powerful, is not a high-profile reprint. It being in MM2 does not mean it's not going to be in Origins, and vice versa.
@-x-Juuzou-x-x-: Both those cards present problems. Bitterblossom has the type Tribal, which is not supported anymore. Sensei's Divining Top in a standard with fetchlands is broken in half and most importantly it makes every game featuring a top last forever as players have to make a not-very-straightforward decision every turn. I highly doubt we'll see either.
February 11, 2015 1:20 p.m.
I would love to see "enchant worlds" make a comeback but they wanted to in time spiral (Concordant Crossroads anyway) but was to difficult and they did not want any of the others to be "time shifted" so I doubt they will now :-(
February 11, 2015 1:39 p.m.
@TheRedMage it was more of 'that'd be cool if...' Thing. I highly doubt either would be reprinted, but it'd really blow some people's minds if it were to happen.

Unless they intend to reprint and continue Plane cards, I'd like them to somehow incorporate the plane you're on into the gameplay, even if only in a subtle way.
February 11, 2015 3:57 p.m.
Planeschase-standard hybrid? I love it, despite how in unrealistic
February 11, 2015 4:08 p.m.
@LordoftheReal that's kinds what I ment with my "enchant world" comment cause "enchant worlds" was ment to be like going to a different plane witch is why there can only be one in play at a time cause if your in Forsaken Wastes you have to planeswalk to get to Concordant Crossroads and thus forsaken wastes gets "buried" (yes I deliberetly used "old school terminology" in reference to "old school cards")
February 11, 2015 4:11 p.m.
LordoftheReal says... #35
Yeah, I suppose adding Planechase to ORI the same way Theros block + Hero's Journey, M15 + Garruk the Slayer, or Fate Reforged + Ugin's Fate would work well enough. Otherwise, a new method of incorporating planes to the game, perhaps x:enchant world;devotion:chroma.
February 11, 2015 4:20 p.m.
Squisherton says... #36
I'm Most interested in what "new" mechanics will be present? I mean we pretty much get a new mechanic each block and they will bring back an old one as well. I'll give an example such as prowess/delve in khans. But we almost never see a new mechanic come out of a core set. And a set that is supposed to be representing more of a fluid storyline with the cards will have some interesting possibilities. Hmmm......
February 11, 2015 4:27 p.m.
Well. As fun as the planeschase stuff was, it added in uncontrolable random variables to the game that could easily negate any and all strategy and skill previously put into a certain match. I'm all for making new ones, but I don't want them in standard.
Also, I doubt they are going to reprint Bolt in MM2 (as it has a ton of copies and is not an expensive card to acquire). Not saying they won't, I just don't see the point.
I do think it would be fun to have some higher powered cards reprinted. Nothing on the level of Top, mind you, but I feel that something like Bitterblossom would be very very reasonable, especially with Bile Blight in the format. Granted, Blight is rotating soon... but still. Something along those lines.

LordoftheReal says... #38
By "standard", I just meant "relevant to standard players", like the Hero's Journey was.
February 11, 2015 5:40 p.m.
i'm with nolio36, bring back Dark Ritual! maybe...since this is Origins, they'll bring back Counterspell and Birds of Paradise too?
February 12, 2015 12:14 a.m.
alexthegreat38 says... #41
Birds of Paradise maybe, but Counterspell might be too powerful. Throwing a reprint into Standard of something that efficient that isn't even Modern-legal at the moment might be a bit nuts.
February 12, 2015 12:32 a.m.
@SpiritChaser I don't think urza's done is quite right I think he is Jhoira of the Ghitu and Jodah Archmage Eternal (not a card but should be) son after all Jodah is Urza's grand-nephew I beleave (it's been 5-6 years sense I read that story) and both Jhoira and Jodah are "immortal" and both know how to "planeswalk" (Jodah with a spell and Jhoira with venser's "deluminator" or whatever he called his planeswalking machine
February 12, 2015 12:51 a.m.
buildingadeck says... #44
Maybe we can get a reprint of Phelddagrif and get some lore behind the card named after the creator of Magic?
February 12, 2015 2:27 a.m.
JohnnyBaggins says... #45
Dark Ritual and Counterspell would boost Standard UB Control into spheres never seen before.
February 12, 2015 3:19 a.m.
Oakenwind if they reprinted Dark Ritual and Counterspell in M16, or even MM2, then / control would become the single most powerful archetype in both standard and modern, those 2 cards will speed it up, and give it the best counterspell. Ever.
February 12, 2015 6:54 a.m.
What if they did like flip plains walkers? the front side would have weaker + and - abilities you have to do said things it "ignite" the plainswalker , Flip it over for much better + and - abilities? i think that would make midrange and late game much more desireable to play .
February 12, 2015 9:22 a.m.
Spencerbot15 says... #48
I am hoping the planeswalkers are double sided. One side is before spark (Legendary Creature), other side is after (planeswalker). Maybe one of the mechanics ignites their spark...
February 12, 2015 9:32 a.m.
hey guys, doesn't Origins' symbol look like Planechase? I wasn't around back then, what could we expect if they're somehow tied together?
TheRedMage says... #1
I have been thinking with the idea of building intro decks that grow in complexity as you go and build two decks that have something like 4 or 5 tiers starting from lands, simple creatures (flying, reach, intimidate, haste and very simple ETB effects) and simple sorceries and slowly adding to the complexity until you reach the full extent of the game.
And who knows, now that the core set is going away maybe Wizards will actually start producing products like this as the starter product. It's not like they can just stop having entry-level products after all (or even just have Duels of the Planeswalkers, which is what they have mentioned is their best entry-level product these days). Actually, I am sure that now that their entry-level products will be free of other expectations (like, say, being a pro-tour-draftable set) those products might even become better at their job.
I guess my concern is just whether Origins will actually be an entry-level product or not because, if not, I don't think it gets to be labeled "Core Set".
