PLOT TWIST, Gideon actually starts off as a planeswalker, and flips to a creature!

June 16, 2015 2:45 p.m.

IndepenentMeta says... #2

I'm just saying you made it a point it's not coming out cause its in scars of mirrodin. It's not getting printed in this set or for quite some time..... Blah blah blah... If some of you can afford Tarmogoyf Liliana of the Veil among other modern bullshit. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with paying ten bucks for a staple in magic. Like those two which your paying way more than 40 bucks for your set

June 16, 2015 2:47 p.m.

IndepenentMeta says... #3

Runlue polt twist you have to use a card like rank-up-magic to summon him from an extra deck. Becomes the first planeswalker with that effect. Gets much wows!

June 16, 2015 2:48 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #4

Runlue - Don't even joke about that. That would be a cool concept for later on, but not for Origins.

IndepenentMeta - It's more the fact it's a common that's $10. People are fine paying for rares that are upwards of $20-50, and even 'goyf being $150 in some cases. But when your common blue cantrip costs the same as a Steam Vents or Overgrown Tomb? That's a bit excessive.

June 16, 2015 2:48 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #5

IndepenentMeta - That's almost what they did with Werewolves in Innistrad block before they decided on double-face cards. It's still kindof around because of the tip cards if you wanted to play without sleeves.

June 16, 2015 2:50 p.m.

IndepenentMeta says... #6

I think that's fair I've bought those cards time and time again... And personally I feel as if thou that's the price a mans gotta pay in order to get his share of serum visions....

June 16, 2015 2:52 p.m.

IndepenentMeta says... #7

Yeah dude it was a new product and they felt like they could make some money on it... Wats wrong with that... Every business does it. O we have a new burger at Wendy's but it's gonna cost you 13 bucks...

June 16, 2015 2:54 p.m.

Rayenous says... #8

I'm hoping Gideon is also 3CMC or less... mainly so they can all be used in Tiny Leaders... but also because 4+ CMC AND needing to flip would almost definitely make it not Modern playable.

June 16, 2015 2:56 p.m.

IndepenentMeta says... #9

13 bucks to take a bite out of this juicy dilicuous mouth watery burger...

June 16, 2015 2:57 p.m.

smackjack says... #10

When are official spoiler season?

June 16, 2015 2:57 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #11

IndepenentMeta - That is so off topic I can't even quantify that. Get back on topic.

smackjack - Spoilers officially start on the 22nd.

June 16, 2015 2:58 p.m.

N then they throw something like only at Wendy's wen bk prolly has the same shit but cheaper. Then bk makes a commercial like "the same shit as Wendy's but better for your wallet. Come get it if you can" and all the fat people and semi gangster looking dudes go rushing to bk....

Trust me i know business

Rayenous says... #13

...So... Moonmist...

A way to kill Jace, Chandra, Lilliana, and Gideon (Not Nissa). in Modern... LOL

They transform, and become PW's with no loyalty... dead.

(I know... not worth playing... but funny!)

June 16, 2015 3:02 p.m.

Yeah man sorry I got carried away. Yeah man I was hoping for it to come out in modern masters.. Where I tried convincing the people that i know that know people in the company. But they straight up said no. Then In this pack there's your famous excuse about it only coming out on scars. Then some guy told me on an off chance that we do it it might be because of some stupid zendikar lore. But you have to look into the story to know what I'm talking bout... In this case I have no idea what he's talking bout... Does someone have a vision in zedikar?

June 16, 2015 3:03 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #15

Rayenous - That is a funny interaction, but like you said, not really worth it.

IndepenentMeta - Serum Visions was printed in Fifth Dawn, during the first Mirrodin block. And no, it won't show up in BFZ either. Now get on topic or get out.

June 16, 2015 3:05 p.m.

Ugh magic how u allued me... That's exactly what I was talking bout

June 16, 2015 3:06 p.m.

Immon topic explain how this printing system works?

June 16, 2015 3:07 p.m.

Oh please no..... Not this thread too.....

Yeh, if Gideon is more than 3 CMC and needs a flip, he won't be modern playable. Good observtion Rayenous. :)

June 16, 2015 4:16 p.m.

There's an instant that could help flip it idk if that can be a factor.

June 16, 2015 4:32 p.m.

N u take no damage turning that turn seeing that most of the modern meta doesn't run wolfs

There could be a chance at Chandra n jace being modern playable

June 16, 2015 4:33 p.m.

seuvius says... #22

i honestly couldnt see chandra being modern playable. she is to slow in burn decks and i couldnt think of any other deck she would fit in.

June 16, 2015 4:36 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #23

I thought about Jace in Modern Storm, but that may just be wishful thinking. And I'm not sure any of the Origins 'walkers will be Modern playable, even if they satisfy the CMC<=4 rule.

I did joke earlier about Nissa being possible in Scapeshift, but that's only because that deck can get an absurd number of lands in play very quickly.

June 16, 2015 4:45 p.m.

JDMCRIB says... #24

What would she even do in Scapeshift? Lol

June 16, 2015 4:48 p.m.

MollyMab says... #25

Nothing, you play at most 6 forests, of which only 2 are basics.

June 16, 2015 5:05 p.m.

You wouldn't need her to get the land I think he's saying that she would basically come in flipped in Scapeshift giving you access to her Walker abilities sooner.

June 16, 2015 5:13 p.m.

JDMCRIB says... #27

But when you get to seven you just cast Scapeshift and win with Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle. Its not worth it to cast her over scapeshift.

I just want Landfall to show back up, in which case she will shine in that shell.

June 16, 2015 5:22 p.m.

Chadtherest00 says... #28

But what if you don't have scape shift? It could serve as an alt Win con

June 16, 2015 5:26 p.m.

Chadtherest00 says... #29

Or just have a deck based around nissa n tech some of the scape shift cards

June 16, 2015 5:27 p.m.

JDMCRIB says... #30

If you're playing the deck right, you should have one of your four copies of the card. The deck runs stuff like Cryptic Command, Remand, and Serum Visions to filter for it and control, so its really unlikely you won't have it.

And you can make a build-around deck for almost every card in Magic. Doesn't mean its a necessarily good card.

June 16, 2015 5:33 p.m.

MollyMab says... #31

Why dillute the deck? Or base it around a card that struggles to win on its own

June 16, 2015 5:33 p.m.

Chadtherest00 says... #32

Sounds like something I would try just to see how it would test out. I mean you have to admit that the card alone ain't that bad. And like LittleBlueHero said it would give you access to the planeswalker effect sooner

June 16, 2015 5:37 p.m.

JDMCRIB says... #33

But the planeswalker side isn't good enough to justify using it over winning on the spot with Valakut. Getting to those 6/6 lands takes a lot longer than just casting Scapeshift and winning that turn.

June 16, 2015 5:39 p.m.

Chadtherest00 says... #34

The plus effect could serve a purpose thou. If you have 6 lands you could pay 3 then it would transform nissa into walker mode. The plus one is a possible plus one to hand. And it leaves enough space open for your cryptic command. If they counter your nissa you have an option of stopping it or leaving some mana open for your own counter. I wouldn't say it's teir one but maybe a fun deck under the modern format

June 16, 2015 5:45 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #35

Yeah, I'm not saying that Nissa will be a staple in Modern. But of the current decks that exist, Scapeshift is the deck that can flip her the easiest.

June 16, 2015 5:48 p.m.

JDMCRIB says... #36

Certainly. But why would they want to?

June 16, 2015 5:50 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #37

Because baseless speculation is what spoiler season is about?

June 16, 2015 5:53 p.m.

JDMCRIB says... #38

Can't argue with that; I was all over this thread saying that Jace would be great in Delver lol

June 16, 2015 5:55 p.m.

Chadtherest00 says... #39

Well if I'm a part of they.... I would like to see it in action in the modern format because of its pretty low cmc. It could leave mana up for answers such as cryptic command. It's +1 effect could add a potential threat to my hand. It's -2 gives me a 4/4 creature. And you can't use a counter spell to negate it. The card could fetch its own transformation given that your on 6 lands. N at worst you can fetch a land as a three drop...

June 16, 2015 5:58 p.m.

seuvius says... #40

I'm working on my temur delver deck and I REALLY want to try Jace in it!

June 16, 2015 6 p.m.

iLikeDirt says... #41

Out of the board against control match ups actually Nissa would be interesting for scapeshift, though I would argue Vendilion Clique is the better sideboard choice in that instance.

June 16, 2015 6:01 p.m.

Chadtherest00 says... #42

You can also splash in some blue for counter spells of your own. Such as Dispel Cryptic Command Vapor Snag. Then I'd have access to Serum Visions. Idk those are all the upsides I could think of.

June 16, 2015 6:01 p.m.

Chadtherest00 says... #43

Forgot Remand

June 16, 2015 6:02 p.m.

Chubbub says... #44

Gideon is amazing. Seems great versus control for Abzan Aggro, and just insane in jeskai tokens.

June 16, 2015 8:15 p.m. Edited.

JWiley129 says... #45

Gideon is amazing! Maybe the best one? You can easily flip him on T3 in Standard with Raise the Alarm and other cheap creatures!

June 16, 2015 8:21 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #46

Gideon, holy shit. It's like Gideon Jura, only for aggro decks. Gets my vote for best flipwalker, or at least the one that appears to be the most playable from reveal.

June 16, 2015 8:26 p.m.

seuvius says... #47

Oh wow,Gideon is great!

June 16, 2015 8:27 p.m.

Chubbub says... #48

Yeah I think they really pushed Gideon. Gideon into raise into attacking with mana to indestructible, then flip and protect a guy, then outburst or ascendancy is virtually unbeatable and I'm sure will be quite common. Only thing I don't like is Gideon's +2, I just don't see any scenario where you want to activate it. Unless they reprint royal assassin.

June 16, 2015 8:29 p.m. Edited.

JWiley129 says... #49

I didn't expect them to make one if these 'walkers a 1 mana guy. But of the 5, Gideon makes the most sense. Now I'm gonna have to find space in my Mardu Tiny Leaders deck for Gideon at the least. I think liliana and chandra could make the deck as well.

June 16, 2015 8:34 p.m.

I thought Nissa was amazing but good grief Gideon is OP
