MaRo's article got spoiled early, so we have some SPICY Previews with "new" mechanics!
TL;DR: Menace is replacing Intimidate & Landwalk, Prowess is now evergreen primary in Blue secondary in Red and maybe tertiary in White, and Protection is now deciduous used only as necessary.

I just realized that the avaricious dragon, is pretty much just Sarkhan the Dragonspeaker's emblem shoved into a body.

anyone notice how absurdly good the new nissa is in control? She pretty much automatically flips when she hits the board in control.
since heroes downfall is rotating out, utter end would be the only answer to nissa in control. nissa can hit hard and provides card advantage every turn.
sphinx's tutelage seems pretty meh imo. I don't see why there's so much hype surrounding it. like nissa i can see it being a wincon in standard control, but pearl lake seems like a better wincon in blue based standard control. The synergy in modern of tutelage + servant is fragile and mediocre.
t5 Sidisi, Undead Vizier fetching a Chandra's Ignition, t6 chandra's ignition targeting sidisi seems sort of strong if a little silly.
June 20, 2015 2:22 a.m.
wakawakawaka - Except Theros block + M15 doesn't rotate until October. Anyways, I agree that Nissa is better in a control deck or a ramp deck. Whether they make room is the big question. The Tutelage is popular b/c people like Mill cards, which is why they keep making more. And your Sidisi+Chandra's Ignition is a very funny combo, but I don't think it's competitive.

Magicrafter - I've been waiting for the day Glimpse the Unthinkable would get a reprint, I hope this is the set they do it in!

Wow, you can easily play some kind of Temur or Jund control deck with that bomb. It is really good if you ask me!

Rules question: Can it be put into play with Mayael the Anima's ability, or does it check for power after it hit's the battlefield?
June 20, 2015 1:44 p.m.
Ohh god, is 'It dies to Siege rhino' becoming the new 'it dies to doom blade?' Please tell me it's not. A lot of things dies to Siege Rhino, it's not exactly a sign of a bad card.
June 20, 2015 1:44 p.m.
Indigoindigo it has power equal to the number of lands you control in every zone, so yes you can put it into play with mayael
June 20, 2015 1:55 p.m.
wakawakawaka, only if you cast it on the curve and don't have another land to play
June 20, 2015 2:03 p.m.
Nevermind, toughness doesn't change, but it's still a VERY good card. Dying to Rhino is far from making it an unplayable creature

Wait multi color cards in a core set? What is this madness, this is certainly going to be interesting in terms of what other cards we might get and what the limited environment of the set will be like.

Ragon_Wolfbane says... #15
showda actually the question that is being asked is 'Does it kill Siege Rhino' now.
June 20, 2015 2:12 p.m.
Ragon_Wolfbane says... #16
OtakulordAndrew where have been plenty of multi-color cards in core sets before. It isn't like they are trying to encourage mono-colored decks like they did in Theroes for devotion.
June 20, 2015 2:14 p.m.
OtakulordAndrew says... #17
Core sets referring to 8th edition, 9th edition, 10thedition, M10, M11, M12, M13, M14, and M15 not block sets like inistrad block, rtr block, theros block, tarkir block etc.
June 20, 2015 2:21 p.m.
NoviceMagician says... #18
Yeah, there have been multiple cards in core sets with more than one color.
June 20, 2015 2:25 p.m.
Ragon_Wolfbane says... #19
OtakulordAndrew, yes and still there were plenty of Multi-colored cards in those sets xD

Right forgot about Sliver Hivelord and Garruk, Apex Predator in M15, my bad. Are there any other multi color cards from those sets I forgetting about, note I'm only referring to spells not lands such as check lands or pain lands.
June 20, 2015 2:35 p.m.
NoviceMagician says... #22
There are quite a few, but I honestly don't feel like pulling them all up right now. I have a lot of decks to help.

Without a way to play more than one land a turn it isnt very good. Budget option like Polis Crusher most likely. I will snatch it up in draft though.
Edit: Atarka's Command doesn't count.
June 20, 2015 3:36 p.m. Edited.

the point I was trying to make was that however good zendikar incarnate is (the art omfg), siege rhino ALWAYS WINS BWAHAHAHA.
srs tho siege rhino is THE four drop. it has better value than pretty much any other four drop in the format, with the exception of maybe thunderbreak (it really does depend on what deck you're playing with/playing against, but usually siege rhino is pretty much the value king). Zendikar Incarnate is decent but I'm not sure if it can compete with other established midrange creatures.
with that said has anybody noticed that zendikar incarnate is an UNCOMMON. The power level of this at uncommon is absurd.

Definately a strong politcal tool in commander. It's not like it's a new effect; Nevermore, Meddling Mage and Council of the Absolute exist, but I do like Wizard's new twist on it - you can see what they have avaliable. Unfortunately, by the time a cmc 7 creature comes out, your opponents may have already cast every card in their hand, making it less useful, at least in constructed. In commander I can see it being very anoying though... especially because it can be run as a commander itself!
June 20, 2015 3:57 p.m.
wakawakawaka says... #29
I just wish that you could name a card that wasn't revealed aka you could prevent each other player from playing their commander.

HolyFalcon says... #31
Im just gonna call him 'Hammy'. His name is all long.
June 20, 2015 7:29 p.m.
Named_Tawyny says... #32
@wakawakawaka, even then, you could only prevent ONE player. You get to choose a releaved card, not a revealed card per opponent.

Magicrafter: Wizards does have a nasty habit of choosing unnessecarily long or confusing names for legendaries, don't they? I'm still not sure if I'm pronouncing, Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon correctly.
June 20, 2015 7:40 p.m.
HolyFalcon says... #34
Skit-the-rix i think. They shoulda named it Alhammaret 'Hammy', the High Arbiter.
June 20, 2015 7:41 p.m.
IvoryFrost says... #35
I tried saying Skithiryx, but it turned into skinamarinky dinky dink.
June 20, 2015 8:15 p.m.
Player3.14 says... #38
JWiley129: Exactly. And now we have 'Hammy' instead of Alhammarret. The nicknames make life easier though...

7 mana tho
speaking of seven mana, the new nissa is a great Whip of Erebos target @ 7 lands... she's an unkillable planeswalker.
Alesha, Who Smiles at Death might see more play after origins comes out. She reanimates Pia and Kiran Nalaar, all of the new planeswalkers, and best of all Zendikar Incarnate.
June 20, 2015 8:40 p.m.
HolyFalcon says... #41
wakawakawaka: You can't transform Nissa if you Whip her back. It exiles her if she would be put anywhere else than the battlefield.
June 20, 2015 8:42 p.m.
wakawakawaka says... #43
Magicrafter so which triggers first, the "exile nissa then return her to the battlefield transformed" or the whip exile thing.
June 20, 2015 8:45 p.m.
wakawakawaka & Magicrafter - If you whip back a transform-walker and trigger their flip condition, they will come back as a Planeswalker. Look up the interaction between Obzedat, Ghost Council + Whip of Erebos to see why.

wakawakawaka says... #47
I'm not complaining, the legends in this set aren't bad.
June 20, 2015 9:12 p.m.
Indeed! Particularly like Pia and Kiran. Wonder what they will do with those as intro pack rares...
June 20, 2015 9:16 p.m.
Player3.14 says... #49
@2gherkins: I also like Pia and Kiran. They seem like a very fun card. Intro packs tend to be more or less themed, so I wonder what common/uncomon support cards they'll print to suport the rather interesting and unorthodox rare legends in this set. Maybe artifacts that have put-into-graveyard advantages like Ichor Wellspring. Or maybe I'm overthinking it and there'll just be a mild artifact theme in Orgins. Either way, I'm excited to see the rest of the set.
