MaRo's article got spoiled early, so we have some SPICY Previews with "new" mechanics!
TL;DR: Menace is replacing Intimidate & Landwalk, Prowess is now evergreen primary in Blue secondary in Red and maybe tertiary in White, and Protection is now deciduous used only as necessary.

Omfg that angel is so freaking sweet! I loooove it! Ghostly Prison effects that work whether the attacker of defender soooo good! Also lives through the new -4/-4 board wipe huzzah!

That is a really good card! I can see Aggro being a thing, with this as the curve-topper.

I really like that angel. it dodges most removal due to its high toughness, has a powerful effect, and has an extremely good evasive body for the cost.

new cards spoiled by LR:
The last two seem INSANE in Limited.

In W aggressive, there are better spells to cast at 4 CMC, in modern at least, and in my opinion.
If you really want that block effect in W aggro, Tactician is a better option.

Possible 4/5 for in draft? And it has vigilance either way? Hells yeah!
I really like how good this card could be, while still dying hard to Deathmist Raptor. Those two really show how having a rarity level or 2 up doesn't mean you have to be broken, but does mean you should be stronger.

We have a new mythic people!
Woodland Bellower 4GG
Creature - Beast
When ~ enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a nonlegendary green creature with CMC 3 or less and put it on the battlefield.
6/5

The definition of underwhelming. The best you can fetch is Eternal Witness.
June 25, 2015 6:21 a.m.
Not a factor. In any format where Tarmogoyf is playable (modern and legacy), this is not playable and vice versa (Commander).
June 25, 2015 6:28 a.m.
ANd of course, for standard, the right thing to grab would be Deathmist Raptor.

branston567 says... #20
then why would you mention Eternal Witness, playable in as many formats as Tarmogoyf
June 25, 2015 6:39 a.m.
branston567: this is not playable in any format where goyf is playable.. Witness is an EDH staple, and this is pretty much only playable in EDH..
June 25, 2015 6:42 a.m.
Infectious Bloodlust seems nice for sligh/aggro decks, no?

hold on it searches up Nissa, Vastwood Seer and you could flip her that turn

So far I'm not impressed with this set. I was hoping for a big finale. Will wait and see.

And the Bellowers seems to slot nicely into CoCo decks, at least in Standard, as a curve topper. Grabs you half of your CoCo haul (from anywhere in the deck) alongside a giant beater.

rob1nb Infectious Bloodlust is nice in limited as it turns all your creatures into actual threats. In constructed in standard it should be tested with. On one hand you can turn a Zurgo Bellstriker into a 4/3 and Monastery Swiftspear becomes a 3/3 and the initial prowess trigger. It thins the library so you are likely to get every one of them in a single game. The thing though is I don't know what you'd want to take out for it.

Also, is wizards trying to get away from T1 mana dorks? I don't see any as of yet. Honored Hierarch doesn't count either because it doesn't get going till you do combat damage.
June 25, 2015 9:41 a.m.
Ragon_Wolfbane I think they said somewhere moderately recently (within the past six months) that they're moving away from one CMC mana dorks...

saj0219, really? Is there an article on it or something? Personally I think the choice is a smart one.

Renowned Collected Company in looks like it could become a viable archetype when this drops. Maybe even more so when rotation comes and we lose access to Fleecemane Lion, etc.

JakeHarlow, I don't care what comes out of this set. So long as it isn't another 3/3 creature for 2 mana then I don't care. That stuff be OP!

Archangel seems like payback for Stormbreath. Red probably won't be able to answer it without a 2 for 1. Already hate it and it's tempo stunting abilities.
Bellower seems slightly less powerful than other options available.
I'm really liking Renown. It incentivises doing something I already enjoy doing, attacking. The Limited format seems to be shaping up great, 10 archetypes with a lot of cross over. Black now has 2 unconditional kill spells and Reave Soul at common. Looks a little more complex than the past 2 core set formats.
June 25, 2015 10:39 a.m.
Methinks I'm gonna go white at prerelease, and try to get into either green for aggressive stuff or blue for prowess/tempo stuff. What do you guys thing you're gonna play?

I'm so torn between green and white because the other color I was considering (red) looks like crap to be honest.

I just want to throw this out there... Archangel of Tithes in the AssFormation (Assault Formation) deck. Big butts and taxes will make attacking you a chore and you are dropping a 5/5 essentially.
Also will work well with a lot of the Renown cards I have seen so far. FNM fun for sure :)
Can't wait to make people scoop.

I'm almost certainly going white and hoping to splash green. Looking deadly

Not impressed, will probably play it out of necessity.

In terms of pre-release currently white feels very strong in terms of what cards have been spoiled so far, however I think I'll probably choose the green, or blue pre-release pack and hopefully build either a strong blue-white flying deck, blue-green tempo deck, or a green-white aggro/midrange deck. Currently I'm not really sol on red or black yet from what's been spoiled so far but if we get some decent menace creatures or some more removal and burn spoiled I could see myself possibly using one of those 2 colors in a supporting roll. In the end though my choice will be based on what cards I get in my sealed pool and what feels like it would do best.
June 25, 2015 10:54 a.m.
I'm crying on the inside. This completely sucks. Way to go with creativity wizards.
June 25, 2015 10:55 a.m.
I feel like that was quite possibly the only land cycle decision that I could have been disappointed with. Sure, some land cycles would have been cooler than others, but that's just boring.
June 25, 2015 10:56 a.m.
Wait. Are these the exact same ones that were in M15? Why not the other cycle?
