MaRo's article got spoiled early, so we have some SPICY Previews with "new" mechanics!

TL;DR: Menace is replacing Intimidate & Landwalk, Prowess is now evergreen primary in Blue secondary in Red and maybe tertiary in White, and Protection is now deciduous used only as necessary.

They have a merfolk wizard on Mythicspoiler, might be a bad, but if it's true... No bueno.

Harbinger of the Tides

UU

pay 2 extra to cast as though it had flash

Bounce target tapped creature when it enters the battlefield

2/2

I'm pretty sure it's not good, especially for Modern Fish, but I've come to not like fish lately...

Eventually I'll figure out how to edit, since he managed to put it up before me due to me doing it the hard way

Freaking Elvish Company. The list is so refined that Origins, which in part seems like an attempt at buffing Elves at this point, probably won't even alter the deck's main board. It's a testament to the deck's power...

JDMCRIB says... #4

NotaNetDeck It' possible that Shaman of the Pack could be run in Elvish Company, and give it a reason to splash instead of . White is only ran in the sideboard, and all the cards are replaceable. You can use Cavern of Souls for the black on Shaman, and you get access to Abrupt Decay and Thoughtseize as well, which are both strong cards.

But that'll require some testing, I'm sure.

freakman13 says... #5

JDMCRIB that seems like it could be a reasonable turn of events.
Demonic Pact isn't in the database :( I need to add that to my demon deck, for flavour.

Harbinger of the Tides looks pretty good. Solid blue tempo removal that leave a body behind or it can just be a 2/2 for 2 When you want.

June 27, 2015 3:58 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #7

CheeseBro - She's not drinking, she's blowing a horn. Like a messenger would.

Tides is a really solid tempo play. Though I'm somewhat concerned thatit only returns a TAPPED creature to their hand. Against things like merfolk you usually find yourself not attacking and only blocking.

June 27, 2015 5:06 a.m.

NotaNetDeck says... #8

JDMCRIB The reason I said main board is because I think Shaman and the like could make a splash in the sideboard. The "splash" itself would be less of a decision than actual slots IMO, with Gilt-Leaf Palace and Chord of Calling and of course, Company itself, mana fixing should be the easiest part.

I am loving the new Tides merfolk. I wasn't around when merfelk tribal wa big in standard and am glad to see a fan favorite return, especially with a solid body and a useful ability, even if the extra is to steep for modern.

only 1 spoiler this morning... i wonder at what time the mothership spoilers come in...

It's the weekend. WotC doesn't spoil anything on the weekends.

THEY DONT!?!?!?!?!?

June 27, 2015 8:50 a.m.

No. They take the weekend off. Independent vendors may spoil some stuff though. Maybe.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Minelia5 says... #17

I really like harbinger of the tides. It's a nice "removal" spell, and you get a 2/2 out of it. The best part is you can flash it in and bounce an attacking creature, which can totally screw up anyones combat. Bouncing Goblin Rabblemaster or Goblin Piledriver doesn't seem bad :D

June 27, 2015 9:50 a.m.

CheeseBro says... #18

not Goblin Piledriver its pro blue

June 27, 2015 9:50 a.m.

Minelia5 says... #19

ugggg. Totally forgot lol. that actually makes me really happy cause I run mono red and I though that that card could be kind of annoying against my deck. The pro-blue on a 2 mana red goblin is totally awesome :D

June 27, 2015 9:52 a.m.

CheeseBro says... #20

yeah, get rekt control

June 27, 2015 9:53 a.m.

JDMCRIB says... #21

NotaNetDeck Totally forgot about Gilt-Leaf Palace, that can replace the Razorverge Thickets. And I think that Shaman of the Pack has some decent mainboard potential, as it can get the deck out of a creature lock on the battlefield. It seems good in the mirror and against midrange where your creatures can't really get through their defenses.

As for the sideboard cards, Abrupt Decay can come in against creature-based strategies, Thoughtseize can come in against control (to make the coast clear for a CoCo) and combo, and maybe even a singleton Damnation against the mirror as a "reset button" if you fall way behind in the race.

Putrefy says... #22

Can we please all hope that they reprint Goblin Ringleader, Goblin Matron and Goblin Warchief aswell? I'd really, really, really like to play Goblin Tribal in Modern. Takes me back to the good old days... Goblin tribal in Onslaught Standard... those were the times... With Patriarch's Bidding...

edit: and Goblin Lackey of course...

June 27, 2015 4:02 p.m. Edited.

JaceArveduin says... #23

So... Guys... Remember how MUD isn't really a thing, with one of the reasons being they don't have a good UU drop?

June 27, 2015 4:07 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #24

Putrefy - Goblin Lackey may be too strong for Standard/Modern, and I doubt Goblin Matron or Goblin Warchief will get printed. Goblin Ringleader is possible thanks to Sylvan Messenger getting a reprint, but I wouldn't hold my breath with Goblin Piledriver and Goblin Rabblemaster in the same Standard.

June 27, 2015 4:19 p.m.

Putrefy says... #25

Who cares about Standard anyways :O

June 27, 2015 4:20 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #26

Putrefy - Well, cards have to get into Standard before they get into Modern (for now). So we have to worry about that for future reprints.

June 27, 2015 4:25 p.m.

kengiczar says... #27

Standard draft would turn into legacy draft, except only goblins would be viable. : )

Still I do hope we see some of those reprints, perhaps just not all during the same standard season.

(Oh and phasing, lets bring back Astral Slide! Am I joking? Who knows!)

So the allied lands are gonna be checklands. Wishful thinking. . What do you want them to be?

June 27, 2015 8:10 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #29

If Goblins becomes relevant in Modern, I'm all in to become a modern player. Waaaaaaagh!

June 27, 2015 8:10 p.m.

IvoryFrost says... #30

Although we still don't have the entire set, I'm feeling green for my pre release.

June 28, 2015 10:32 a.m.

NotaNetDeck says... #31

JDMCRIB, I doubt Elvish Company will ever run Damnation because it's hard to splash and the deck wins so quickly. In the mirror, the game could be over before you have 2BB. I think Drown in Sorrow would be a better choice, but realistically speaking I doubt this deck will ever run either.

June 28, 2015 2:49 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #32

Alpinisth - Goblins has always been at least ok in modern.

June 28, 2015 2:53 p.m.

NotaNetDeck says... #33

Also, anyone else excited about Languish?

June 28, 2015 2:57 p.m.

IvoryFrost says... #34

NotaNetDeck I like it but I wish it was -5/-5.

June 28, 2015 3:06 p.m.

snotice says... #35

IvoryFrost: I agree, but it would be too powerful, that's why they limited it. It's double what Infest or standard Drown in Sorrow does. Minuses gets around a lot, so it makes sense that they keep in a decent range.

June 28, 2015 3:54 p.m.

IvoryFrost says... #36

snoticeUnderstandable, only problem is it doesn't take out a few powerful cards in the format, but once rotation happens that won't be a problem anymore.

June 28, 2015 4:41 p.m.

Siege Rhino eyeballs Languish and says "almost is only good with horseshoes and hand grenades, try again next time" , still am stoked about it though and even more stoked that it is the game day rare promo. Going right into my control deck.

June 28, 2015 5:08 p.m.

NotaNetDeck says... #38

I do too IvoryFrost, but mass Dismember for 1 more mana, albeit at sorcery speed, would be massively OP. I do think that'd secure its Modern playability though.

June 28, 2015 5:08 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #39

Swing with elvish mystic

Rhino chuckles and blocks

Languish

Oh...

June 28, 2015 5:10 p.m.

pumpkinwavy says... #40

VampireArmy that's still a two for one. And you got Lightning Helixed.

June 28, 2015 5:20 p.m.

IvoryFrost says... #41

NotaNetDeck Yeah if it were -5/-5 it would have to be something like 5-6 mana maybe?

June 28, 2015 5:20 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #42

Not really. You're getting that rhino plus every other mana Dork, aggressive guy they've played.

June 28, 2015 5:38 p.m.

NotaNetDeck says... #43

pumpkinwavy, don't forget that Mystic would've died to Languish anyway, so it's only as much card disadvantage as a hard sweeper.

IvoryFrost that's right, by my estimates at least. It's ironic (and irritating) because while the effect's power (at -5/-5) would make it Modern-playable, a realistic cost of 3BB would put it out of the range of Modern playability. We'll have to stick with Damnation if we want to be competitive :(

Deathblade Predator

2B

Creature - Human Warrior

Deathtouch

Whenever Deathblade Predator deals combat damage to a player, that player loses life equal to the number of creature cards in your graveyard.

1/4

June 28, 2015 7:47 p.m.

IvoryFrost says... #45

NotaNetDeck What if it was like Dismember, where you had the option of paying 2 life in place of the black? It would still be 5 mana in total.

June 28, 2015 7:50 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #46

Not really fond of that second ability but a 1/4 deathtouch is pretty gas at 3 mana. Especially since It's not fucking legendary :D

June 28, 2015 7:51 p.m.

I'll have to run that card in my Golgari Grave Deck.

By the way, I wanted to thank everyone who has helped dig up all the spoilers so far and post them here for all of us to see.

Thanks everyone!

:)

June 28, 2015 7:51 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #48

Why would they ever block your Mysic? Especially if you have ready. A smart friend of mine once told me that magic players rarely bluff. If you attack with your 1/1 into my 4/5, I know something's fishy. Unless I'm at 1, I'll never offer you that block.

June 28, 2015 7:52 p.m.

I actually tend to do things like that because, well umm, mind games. MUAHAHAHAHAHNAHA!

So anyway, did we get all of the mythics so yet? If so, what are the white ones?

June 28, 2015 7:54 p.m. Edited.

VampireArmy says... #50

Magic players bluff a whole lot more than you'd think. I could have languish. I could have my own rhino or a kill spell or anything else really. If I've got anything else, I'll play that instead. It's not like in this meta you are forced into my given situation but it's one that isn't too unlikely to occur.

I mean I'd be just as happy to kill your army of raptors and den mamas with it and give myself a few turns to draw removal for your rhino
