MaRo's article got spoiled early, so we have some SPICY Previews with "new" mechanics!

TL;DR: Menace is replacing Intimidate & Landwalk, Prowess is now evergreen primary in Blue secondary in Red and maybe tertiary in White, and Protection is now deciduous used only as necessary.

I added all the cards that were spoiled from the motherbase today. Not too much to add besides stocking up on basic lands. I expect tomorrow will have a lot more.

quickly back on topic of deck, I keep my deck on my right, sometimes at a 90 degree angle, with my graveyard to the right of that, and my exile to the right of that...if it's facing straight

otherwise I keep the graveyard below the deck, and the exile below the graveyard. Note: not under, like in the same pile, but below.

I'm crying because Goggles doesn't cost less :(

At least we now know what happens when Chandra puts the goggles on.

God, do I play Kaladesh or Vryn? I love control but I also love explosive plays :(

were all the mythic spoiled?

Named_Tawyny says... #6

I just count 14 (2 artifact, Blue, Red, Black; 3 White and Green). Am I missing one?

Femme_Fatale You're the best! Even if I can't read your name correctly!

DarkLaw

Kaladesd, so that you get maximum value when you're promo is the Pyromancer's Goggles!

NotaNetDeck says... #8

As far as I can tell there are 14 :(Still, what a great set.

Ragon_Wolfbane says... #9

Infinite Obliteration is definitely a great card. Think of how funny it'll be when you remove a control deck's Dragonlord Ojutai. On the flip side though It'll be another annoying tool for control. I mean they now just have the ability to use Dark Petition and have spell mastery. They go through the deck, grab Infinite Obliteration, get to cast it, and just remove your deck of easily some of your best cards. Oddly enough that play works perfectly because by turn 5 most decks can be tapped out.

June 29, 2015 2:37 p.m.

God that new scry. I can almost picture delver mulliganing on the play just to increase the chance of hitting a T2 3/2 flyer

June 29, 2015 2:43 p.m.

Serendipitous_Hummingbird, you've just broken Modern and Legacy! Delver will be even more oppressive! (or at least more-so than now)

June 29, 2015 2:46 p.m. Edited.

So just imagine playing a burn deck with Molten Vortex and Day's Undoing? Throw in a few other burn spells and just go to town with burning your foe alive.

14 Mythics so far...

3
3
2 + 1 Blue flavoured Artifact
2 + 1 Red flavoured Artifact
2

I expect the last to be either or a Black flavoured Artifact.

Edit: ... Though, I could see a surprise , with a Nicol Bolas. - Very Exciting would be if it were also a 'Origins' lore based, with a Flip mechanic.
One can only dream.

June 29, 2015 2:47 p.m. Edited.

Does that new scry rule only apply in the Pro Tour though? I was told that but I want confirmation.

June 29, 2015 2:48 p.m.

smackjack says... #15

The new Seismic Assault seems pretty good! SA is better once on the battlefield, but this new one is so much easier to play in a loam deck

June 29, 2015 2:49 p.m.

Rayenous says... #16

@Ragon_Wolfbane

For now, it will only be for that Pro-Tour.
Shortly after that, they will announce when it will come into effect for all tournaments.

June 29, 2015 2:50 p.m.

Rayenous says... #17

I like the idea of a Modern running the new 1-Drop Seismic Assault + Bloodchief Ascension.

June 29, 2015 2:52 p.m.

smackjack says... #18

Ragon_Wolfbane New scry rule? This thread is to much to read on a bad vacation connection, have i missed something?

June 29, 2015 2:52 p.m.

Rayenous says... #19

@smackjack - A new Mulligan rule is coming into effect where, after all mulligans are resolved, all players who mulliganed may then, in turn order, Scry 1.

Edit: - Link

Edit 2: Note - It is worded so that the user of Serum Powder may prevent the ability to scry... it is not based on"If you scryed", but rather how many cards are in your 'opening hand'.

Edit 3: - Now I'm wondering about timing.... I doubt it, but it would be hilarious if getting a Leyline of Anticipation or it's ilk in an opener would allow for a free scry.

June 29, 2015 2:54 p.m. Edited.

JWiley129 says... #20

NOTE the mulligan rule is ONLY for Pro Tour Magic Origins. It is NOT in general use yet. The PT is serving as a testing ground for this rule and may or may not be used generally.

June 29, 2015 3:06 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #21

they did encourage others to use it though

June 29, 2015 3:09 p.m.

JDMCRIB says... #22

Rayenous For the third -oriented mythic, how about a nonlegendary creature that has the Raven Man art that's in Liliana's Uncharted Realms story? It could do something with 1/1 black Bird tokens or something. Just an idea of what it could be.

June 29, 2015 3:25 p.m.

Named_Tawyny says... #23

@Rayenous, Nope. The Scry is based on the cards in your opening hand. As the Leylines read, you can only start with them in play if they're in your opening hand - so if you have six cards plus a leyline to start, you have 7 cards in your opening hand.

@VampireArmy, they encouraged others to use the new table layout, not the mulligan rule.

June 29, 2015 3:30 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #24

So what's the point of the Mulligan rule if it's not even applicable to FNM?

Ratings boost for their event channels?

June 29, 2015 3:32 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #25

VampireArmy - They are testing it out to see how the pros respond to it. That's it.

June 29, 2015 3:46 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #26

What's wrong with being skeptical of random changes?

June 29, 2015 3:48 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #27

Nothing wrong with being skeptical. But most of the pros I've seen have reacted positively to the mulligan change. So it's likely to stick around.

1/2

2 flying power for 3U doesn't seem great to me

has this been posted?

June 29, 2015 9:13 p.m.

dan8080 says... #39

Rayenous I actually like the new seismic assault in a rakdos 8rack type build as an alternate way to close a game if you already have the discard lock and just wanna burn them out before they can possibly wiggle out.

June 29, 2015 9:36 p.m.

bsian says... #40

So for the MTGO prerelease, the seeded packs are based not off of color, but the "Origin" of the walkers. Anyone know if this is how the paper prerelease is going to work too?

Also, the Gaea's Revenge reprint is nice.

June 29, 2015 9:38 p.m.

Minelia5 says... #41

I don't like the fact that Gaea's Revenge can be targeted by nongreen abilities from green creatures and from green abilities with nongreen creatures. It just doesn't seem right.

June 29, 2015 9:40 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #42

Gaea's Revenge seems like a sick control finisher. Very hard to get off the board and survives languish.

June 29, 2015 9:59 p.m.

kengiczar says... #43

Eh I think Gaea's Revenge has the perfect form of "protection" to be put into a green deck. it allows the owner to use fight cards, pumps, or temporary single target trample enablers while making sure it avoids pretty much everything except Beast Within.

June 29, 2015 10:18 p.m.

Named_Tawyny says... #44

HerderOfNerf, that sounds like a distinction without a difference. Each of the origins is intimately linked to a colour.

June 29, 2015 10:38 p.m.

hippienproud says... #45

Minelia5 it doesn't work like that. An ability of a green creature is an ability from a green source, even if you have to use non green mana to activate it.

Similarly, an ability of a non green creature isn't green, even if it requires green mana to activate it.

June 29, 2015 11:06 p.m.

JaceArveduin says... #46

I really want that card... I may end up going back to my Mono-Green roots now that I can rely on this beasty.

June 29, 2015 11:28 p.m.

I've always been disapointed casting Gaea's Revenge in Duels of the Planeswalkers. It's not a bad card though.

June 30, 2015 12:11 a.m.

xcn says... #48

It doesn't seem bad in Green Devotion, for certain matchups at the very least.

June 30, 2015 12:52 a.m.

wakawakawaka says... #49

gaea's revenge is strong don't get me wrong... but its not super strong. It might see some play in control, but honestly there are better finishers.
