MaRo's article got spoiled early, so we have some SPICY Previews with "new" mechanics!

TL;DR: Menace is replacing Intimidate & Landwalk, Prowess is now evergreen primary in Blue secondary in Red and maybe tertiary in White, and Protection is now deciduous used only as necessary.

Also my wish for a Chronomaton reprint is kinda fulfilled... in a bulkier, and more clunky form

Oh Evolutionary leap puts it into your hand :(

do you think paying $3.49 US for Evolutionary Leap is a good price?

Bellock86 says... #5

Honestly I'd wait on that snotice. It' s cool but it'll be bulk after it comes out in standard. After that (meaning when it rotates out) though I feel like it'll creep up and eventually be a $5 card due to play in EDH decks.

I intend to trade for a couple for my Karador and Ghave EDH decks. Creature engine. Couple with something like Fauna Shaman and let the games begin

Herald of the Pantheon looks pretty sweet in those enchantment heavy decks running Starfield of Nyx

Omg Herald of the pantheon has such flavor! The card looks nice, has a rarely seen but awesome effect for non traditional deck builders, and is at least a bear.

Starfield might actually be doable now...

Origins just needs to be a premium foil set. Nissa's revelation would be awesome foiled.

kengiczar says... #11

I like that Guilt Leaf Winnower can kill Siege Rhino, Tasigur, Oujutai, Deathmist and many others, but I can't help but wish it cost instead since it'll be so bad to have main against either Lightning Strike or Draconic Roar.

July 1, 2015 1:56 a.m.

Not Deathmist Raptor, mind you

July 1, 2015 2:07 a.m.

snotice says... #13

Bellock86: thanks. It seems like an easier and cheaper card to work with than Survival of the Fittest, which is godly expensive and for good reason.

Scry 5, then reveal the top card of your library. If it is a creature card, draw cards equal to its power and gain life equal to its toughness.

AH, EMRAKUL!!!!

July 1, 2015 2:42 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #16

The reason why I said Hangarback Walker may see modern affinity play is because Steel Overseer and Arcbound Ravager. Synergy purposes, really. And for a 1/1 with a lot of potential advantage seems okay to me.

And now I'm tempted to play modern casual mono-green ramp. That card is hilarious if you show your opponent an Emrakul. If you don't deck yourself, that is.

July 1, 2015 2:46 a.m.

seuvius says... #17

I Really want to play that card as at least a one of in my tron deck for flavor..and power reasons!

Anyone notice that Black's inability to destroy enchantments fits with tainted remedy?

July 1, 2015 3:38 a.m.

kengiczar says... #19

@ DarkLaw: You've inspired me. Now I want to turn 0 Leyline of Vitality and then drop 4x Hangarback Walker. Aside from those 5 cards I kept an Island and either Serum Visions or Day's Undoing. Lets go T3 army of 3/4 artifact creatures and 7 new cards! Hopefully some of those 7 new cards are Steel Overseer mwahahaha!

Final mythic spoiled:

Titan of Erebos 1BBB

Mythic

Creature - Giant

Titan of Erebos is indestructible as long as no opponent controls a creature.

Whenever a creature card leaves an opponent's graveyard you may discard a card. If you do, return Titan of Erebos from your graveyard to your hand.

5/5

Kind of weird, but awesome in limited. Casting cost could be better.

kengiczar says... #27

So I don't really get what this new Titan is for. So we can put a 4 drop back in our hand after a player casts Dig Through Time exiling something???

It just doesn't seem that useful to me. Like..why isn't it "When a creature an opponent controls is put into his or her graveyard"? Flavor-wise it makes some sense but play-wise it seems pretty bad, unless reanimate is coming within the next two blocks. (And I mean better than it has been, even Alesha isn't that great and she's reanimate on a stick.)

July 1, 2015 4:02 a.m.

JDMCRIB says... #28

kengiczar My guess is it's to hate on Delve and stuff like Whip of Erebos and whatnot. In Modern, combining it with Scavenging Ooze or other targeted graveyard removal is good synergy.

Also, Mono- Devotion. This plus Despoiler of Souls. Just sayin'.

July 1, 2015 4:05 a.m.

kengiczar says... #29

I didn't see the indestructible clause so better than I thought...still idk.

July 1, 2015 4:07 a.m.

kengiczar says... #30

Hm so if my opponent uses Kolaghan's Command or Ojutai's Command to get a creature otu of the graveyard I can pull this Titan out of mine to my hand, discard another creature, and then am halfway to the non mana portion activated cost of Despoiler of Souls.

I guess I just miss the original titans to much.

July 1, 2015 4:10 a.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #31

Well it seems great to me, new wrath or crux and we have a 5/5 indestructible at our disposal, it answers the new horror 3/1 & Bloodsoaked Champion

July 1, 2015 4:15 a.m.

kengiczar says... #32

Yeah it's just wierd to me how the big black Titan is used against the awesome new low drop creature generator. Thinking of the new -4/4 to everything makes me like it a lot more.

July 1, 2015 4:31 a.m.

kengiczar says... #33

You know I totally want to troll twin by flashing in Bounding Krasis when they go for the combo.

I mean if I tap down their Deceiver Exarch in response to them targetting it with Splinter Twin doesn't it shut it down for a turn?

If so after I do that I will follow up on my turn with Aura Graft so that I can smash the hell out of them with their own combo but in Fish Lizard form. Gotta pay the Troll Toll and it looks like they are all out of coins lols.

July 1, 2015 4:34 a.m.

JWiley129 says... #34

kengiczar - Yes, that would work. Just as long as A) they don't have a counterspell and B) they don't have another Exarch or Pestermite in hand to untap it.

July 1, 2015 4:43 a.m.

Souljacker says... #35

So you have a 5/5 indestructable vs control, and if they manage to remove it you can get it back by discarding Bloodsoaked Champion or the new Horror. Seems like a good threat for MBD.

July 1, 2015 6:16 a.m.

Minelia5 says... #36

what's the new 5/5 indestructible?

Anyways what do you guys think about the outland colossus?

July 1, 2015 7:13 a.m.

Outland Colossus will be unstoppable in limted if you didn't have direct removal, since you can't chump-block him

In Standard, he fits as G/X - ramp deck's bomb. Kinda susceptible to removal, but a 6/6 body for 5 mana is great. I really like him with Temur Battle Rage, the first hit renown him, and the next hit is 12 damage to the face

July 1, 2015 8:16 a.m.

Souljacker says... #38

You can only chump block him because he can't be blocked by more than 1 creature.

July 1, 2015 8:52 a.m.

Minelia5 says... #39

wait when you say you can't chump block him, you mean you can't kill him through blocking with multiple creatures? I always thought chumpblocking was blocking with a 1/1 against a 8/8 or something like that. Is your version throwing a bunch of chumps in front of him to trade?

July 1, 2015 8:52 a.m.

Minelia5 says... #40

yeah that's what I thought Souljacker :D

July 1, 2015 8:53 a.m.

Hm. I kinda used the wrong term there. And yes, what I meant is that you can't deal with him by throwing a bunch of weenies his way

July 1, 2015 8:58 a.m.

Minelia5 says... #42

yeah you are for sure right magnetcrocodile. He will be unbelievable in limited.

July 1, 2015 9:03 a.m.

Erebos's Titan seems extremely good to me. We might have to say hello again to Gary before THS rotates.

July 1, 2015 9:03 a.m.

Souljacker says... #44

I think with all the renown creatures, Nylea could see more play. The problem with such a fatty without trample is that you can keep him in check with tokens.

July 1, 2015 9:03 a.m.

square711 says... #45

I think chump blocking refers to any situation where you use smaller creatures to block bigger ones, be it one Ornithopter against a Tarmogoyf or fifteen Spirit tokens against an Emrakul. At least that's how I've always understood it (and my two current decks are B/W tokens and U/B faeries, so I use the expression a lot) :P

July 1, 2015 9:12 a.m.

NixTheThird says... #46

Rasta_Viking29 don't you go off poking fun at people like me with giving false hopes as one last Gary hurrah...

But really, ill need to see this Titan o' Erebos played out, because I don't like it much in standard. Indestrucablility when there's no creatures is really limited unless you keep the board clear with a lot of creature hate, which is possible but difficult and maybe you'd rather spend mana on other things (like a Gary!). The recursion relies on the opponent seeing the card in the grave and still feeling ahead enough to delve or (less likely) rez a creature. Very limited scope of when it's useful and let's opponents choose when to deal with it coming back :/

July 1, 2015 9:36 a.m.

VampireArmy says... #47

It's still a 4 mana 5/5 in black. That is pretty freakin huge man. The last time black got that kind of rate was phyrexian Obliterator. It's a solid beatstick with possible upside and no downside other than casting cost. Cards great

July 1, 2015 9:40 a.m.

Chubbub says... #48

I personally love gilt leaf winnower in and against abzan. They go t4 rhino. Next turn you go winnower kill your rhino and you just had a huge tempo swing. Now they have to answer yet another threat that applies a fast clock and is hard to block profitably, and impossible to chump. Only thing is I'm not sure if it's better than wingmate.
