MaRo's article got spoiled early, so we have some SPICY Previews with "new" mechanics!
TL;DR: Menace is replacing Intimidate & Landwalk, Prowess is now evergreen primary in Blue secondary in Red and maybe tertiary in White, and Protection is now deciduous used only as necessary.

Kaladesh looks pretty cool. I'd like a Vryn article before I make up my mind, though.

what are the odds of a Gilt-Leaf Palace reprint?

also does anyone know if the marauder reprint is the dd art or the alara?

I feel like mono white devotion could be very cool. Two double white two drops, two double white three drops, archangel at four, roc at five. Just need a mana sink and a draw engine.
July 1, 2015 6:35 p.m.
Maybe. If they give us an over run effect I'll splash green for shamanic revelation and the over run effect. Otherwise might go blue. Bident of Thassa would be interesting with all those tokens.

JaceArveduin says... #14
Nope, still too expensive, and doesn't add enough devotion by itself. The tokens also don't have haste, so you're at the mercy of Bile Blight, Drown in Sorrow, etc. Then there's the fact that if you have enough devotion to make it worthwhile, you should probably be winning.

I would go with the white avatar over evangel... You can buff your dudes for 6 mana even exile it to buff... Forgetting its name for the moment boo..

Soul of Theros would be a solid mana dump, good call.
July 1, 2015 9:22 p.m.
I feel like the best mana sink for White Devotion would be Mastery of the Unseen
July 1, 2015 9:46 p.m.
Mastery is great for long, drawn out games. And maybe I'd run two. But I feel like when you're running devotion, you're really just looking to curve out and end the game.
Turn two anafenza, turn three brimaz, turn four archangel, turn five roc or soul of theros, etc.
Just powerful threats with a mana dump to go over people. Sure, it usually won't go as planed due to removal and sweepers, but that's why it's important to have them all be powerful threats by themselves. And I think we've reached the point where we finally have a critical mass of powerful white devo creatures.
Also, kytheon's irregulars would also be a good one-two of as far as mana dumps go. Great on offense for alpha swings, and on defense to stall their board.

Holy crap the spider is actually good! a 6/6 for 6 with reach? Um, for a common this is one of the things I might actually consider playing.
I am also extremely happy that Blood-Cursed Knight is not only a new knight but also a vampire. So good to see a typing that supports fun tribal types other than Faeries, Elfs, Goblins, Merfolks and having two popular types that aren't overrepresented is the real icing on the cake for me.
That Blood-Cursed Knight might be yoinked right into my custom set...it just fits so damn well with my themes..at least now I can make "Vampire Knight" creatures and when somebody tries to nay-say I can show them this card and punch them for ruffling my jimmies.

New card here
Mage-Ring Responder
Artifact Creature - Golem
Doesn't untap during its controllers untap step.
: Untap Mage-Ring Responder
When ~ attacks, it deals 7 damage to target creature defending player controls.
7/7.
OH, and it's a rare.
July 2, 2015 12:06 a.m.
Sigil of the Empty Throne? Is pillow fort really back? Starfield of Nyx.... wowzers!
July 2, 2015 12:32 a.m.
Hmm... the Mage Ring Responder has some potential in Modern Tron perhaps? Blows up pretty any creature in the format, and the untap isn't that much of an issue when you've played your whole hand off of Urzatron. Maybe run 1 in place of a Wurmcoil Engine, but I'm probably being too optimistic about it to be honest.
July 2, 2015 12:36 a.m.
The spider is actually an uncommon, and also has vigilance.
July 2, 2015 2:15 a.m.
Zuckfat As far as I know, none of the 5 'walkers were from or first-planeswalked to Phyrexia, so there's almost no chance of Phyrexian Arena in Origins, sadly.
And it's also a really powerful card.
July 2, 2015 4:31 a.m.
I know, I love that card. I just want to MBD one last time.
July 2, 2015 5:07 a.m.
Besides, you don't walk to phyrexia. Phyrexia walks to you. Moo hoo he ha ha!
July 2, 2015 5:08 a.m.
Zuckfat Well played sir... (the glory of phyrexia shall be known to all)
But let's not get off topic.
July 2, 2015 5:13 a.m.
Interesting that there have now been 16 Mythics spoiled.
3x , 3x , 3x , 2x (3 if you count the Red mana artifact), 3x , 2x Artifact (1 if red mana artifact counts as )
I guess they squeezed an extra one in there to balance out the colors while allowing for Alhammarret's Archive

Glad to see Sigil of the Empty Throne get a reprint. Been wanting to pick one up for EDH and now it's price should just about dip into my price range.
Also, it's clear they want to give "enchantment matters" one last stab at mattering in standard before theros rotates, but what do you all think the actual viability of that kind of deck?
July 2, 2015 8:51 a.m.
I think it's viable. Nyx-Fleece Ram, Courser of Kruphix, Karametra, God of Harvests, Eidolon of Blossoms, Sigil of the Empty Throne, Starfield of Nyx, And Herald of the Pantheon in a deck!
July 2, 2015 9:08 a.m.
magnetcrocodile says... #36
If Starfield of Nyx's second effect gets activated, does it also enchantment creature like Courser of Kruphix, effectively making him a 3/3 and Eidolon of Blossoms a 4/4?
If so, I can imagine the chaos when someone forget the effect miscount the damage
July 2, 2015 9:15 a.m.
magnetcrocodile: that's correct. And Courser of Kruphix is a she :P
July 2, 2015 9:21 a.m.
magnetcrocodile says... #38
Thanks for that, square711
honestly, this set has so many exciting toys
July 2, 2015 9:28 a.m.
Named_Tawyny says... #39
Technically, square711, Courser of Kruphix is either. It's a nonlegendary creature, which means there exist many multiple coursers in the world - it's a title, not a person. The art just represents a random one of them, but it isn't that specific person.
July 2, 2015 9:41 a.m.
I'll definitely try to ressurect my post-Nyx deck, based on constellation from Grim Guardian, Master of the Feast, Fate Unraveler or Doomwake Giant and so on. I'm afraid it's too slow for my meta, but maybe splash with and things like Pacifism or Eidolon of Rhetoric will help out.

Also does anyone else excited for mono-black this set? So many great cards.
For example, Necromantic Summons is a great reanimator card. Take your opponent's dead Siege Rhino, getting back Titan of Erebos(in your grave) by discarding Despoiler of Souls to use later. Kinda far fetched, yes, but you get the point

What's everyone's thoughts of the new 4'of creatures for each color. I think those wolves would be great in a CoCo deck. The fairies are nice, esp combined with clone effects. The Zombies are ok of a bit high cost the others are meh.
None for red I see yet.
July 2, 2015 10:32 a.m.
Named_Tawyny says... #43
The red one was an aura, and was spoiled at the exact same time (I think about a week ago)
The faeries aren't great - it's conditional card draw on a weak body. The Red Aura can do some work in limited, and the Wolves are going to be giant beatsticks in draft.
July 2, 2015 10:36 a.m.
's isn't a creature. It's an Aura. Infectious Bloodlust

So Gideon and that Mage-Ring Responder could be fun together with the untap/indestructible ability. I also saw someone on here mention Refocus which that or other untap triggers could be super fun.
July 2, 2015 10:48 a.m.
Interesting that it doesn't say "another creature"... it's becoming less common to see a creature that can sac itself to it's own ability.
