MaRo's article got spoiled early, so we have some SPICY Previews with "new" mechanics!
TL;DR: Menace is replacing Intimidate & Landwalk, Prowess is now evergreen primary in Blue secondary in Red and maybe tertiary in White, and Protection is now deciduous used only as necessary.

I guess the point I was trying to make was that he thought gold bordered cards were different from their colored counterparts. White cards had white boarders, simple as that, but the gold colored ones weren't exclusively white, so they might not have counted. It wasn't really that he didn't "get it" for an hour, he was just arguing with me for an hour about it until I could find the rules that stated he was wrong.
He didn't think that it being red stopped it from being white, and i'm sorry if that's how I made it come across. He thought that being red/white was a completely different color, a sixth color if you will, and that blood baron only had the power to stop pure white cards. Once I found the exact wording of the rules about protection, he got it and dropped it.
All I was trying to say is that it's definitely something that can confuse people, and it's completely understandable if wizards is moving away from it.

Also worth noting I didn't say "he IS NOT". I said "he does not SOUND". As in: I am uncertain about this and not making a complete judgment.
I think you are reading my comment with WAAAAY too much certainty.

Guys, for the love of all that is holy.
Open a new forum about this conversation please. This topic has nothing to do with Origins spoilers. So unless you guys are okay with shutting up about the conversation, then I would suggest taking it elsewhere.

I'm confused as to why you're upset about Wizards minimizing one of the less intuitive and high variance keywords in the game. Protection does not require more skill or intelligence to play with, just an understanding of the rule which most likely has to be referenced when new.
"Intelligence" and intimate rules knowledge really has little to do with one's overall skill at the game for that matter.
June 9, 2015 2:29 p.m.
I'm not upset and I think it's fine you're pointing out that it was a kind of dumb mistake to make. I just wanted to point out that my thoughts on the matter, that some of these abilities are not as intuitive as we, who have been playing for a while, think they are.
And this specifically does have to do with the spoilers as it has to do with the mechanics in Magic Origins.

Rasta_Viking29 It actually has far more to do with the experience level of the player playing the game...which I think is very much the point. What it does reduce, as was stated earlier, is more new cards producing "interesting" interactions.

Anyway, did someone say they were reprinting Elvish Visionary in Origins? Because that would be fantastic.
June 9, 2015 2:34 p.m.
I was ocnfused about this thread because it said 'spoilers' then at the bottom it talked about mechanics stuff so I thought it was all fair game.

Elvish Visionary may see a reprint but it did show up in the 30 card constructed intro decks and will be legal for standard play in all sets that origins is legal in standard for.

OtakulordAndrew that makes me happy. Elvish Visionary is surprisingly a card that I don't own a single one of, and I want some. So this reprint puts a happy face on my... face.
:P
June 9, 2015 2:39 p.m.
"If a card is in a decklist below but not listed above and not a new card, that means it is a reprint that is also in Magic Origins."
So Elvish Visionary is going to be a reprint then. It not listed as one of the 273+, so it's going to be in the actual set.

God damn it. People are ALREADY adding in cards without their images or proper information.
sigh
It never ends.

Quite a few older cards such as Terra Stomper, Shivan Dragon, Eagle of the Watch, Nightmare etc. where put in the 30 card intro decks and will be legal for standard play while origins is viable in standard I think some one put a link to the list on a previous page of this discussion.

Like, who puts Avaricious Dragon legal in pauper? WHO THE FUCK PUTS IT LEGAL IN PAUPER!?

UrbanAnathema I'm contending that Protection did not lead to interesting interactions. High variance cards actually reduce the impact skill/experience has on the game.

Oh, Jhessian Thief features a new artist: Miles Johnston. And this work is absolutely GORGEOUS!
June 9, 2015 3:05 p.m.
I think Fiery Conclusion was just added to the spoilers. Seems great in atarka red with all those goblin tokens. Another way to deal with Rhino.

Do you think Jhessian Thief could see modern play? MAybe in Control or delver-type tempo decks?
June 9, 2015 3:21 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #24
No. If Neurok Commando doesn't see play I don't think Jhessian Thief will ever see play.

OtakulordAndrew says... #25
@awesomeguy37 probably not as it is 3 cmc for a 1/3 prowess who has to deal damage to the opponent to draw and dies to all the commonly used forms of removal in the format.

Also, for one of these new planes, any speculation as to what real world location it could be based off of? I'm looking at Separatist Voidmage's flavour text being spoken by this "Alhammarret" person.
June 9, 2015 3:40 p.m.
OtakulordAndrew says... #27
It's hard to say if the plane of vryn was or ever will be based on a real world location as the only notable locations we know of from the plane are silmot's crossing (Jace's birth place) and Trail of the Mage-Rings from planechase 2012.

All the cards have been submitted. Just wait for yeago to accept them, sometime in the distant future.

Femme, I know right!? That artwork is beautiful! I want so many foils. :3

Anything is possible. Serum Visions could be reprinted in origins since we know nothing of the brand new planes.
June 9, 2015 4:10 p.m.
thenba2kgod - Except it's confirmed Serum Visions won't be reprinted. Source

JWiley129 boooooo. Guess I'll just need to get the promo x4

Operation "Get 4x Serum Visions Promo" confirmed and initiated.
June 9, 2015 4:25 p.m.
thenba2kgod - I could also have told you that Serum is only found on Mirrodin, so there's no way it could show up in Origins. But the tweet was a much better and more decisive way of showing you that.
June 9, 2015 4:32 p.m.
Ok I must be totally out of it. where the heck do we get these promos?

valor of akros is that as broken as i think it is
June 9, 2015 4:56 p.m.
Valor in Akros doesn't seem great honestly. It does work nicely with tokens but tokens wants to be faster than a turn four enchantment that doesn't buff your creatures until you play more tokens.

MAGESTIC_LLAMA says... #40
valor of akros will be unplayable in most every constructed format. It might see a bit of limited play, but if a card like Cathars' Crusade saw no play in modern and fringe standard, valor of akros will be limited token support.
June 9, 2015 5:03 p.m.
VAkros is going straight into my Anafenza EDH and TL decks. And I'm building a Standard VAkros deck with Secure the Wastes in it.
June 9, 2015 5:45 p.m. Edited.
Valor will most likely be going in a Jazal Goldmane EDH deck I may or may not be making... looks like fun.
June 9, 2015 5:47 p.m.
tennis pls
Ajani has killed me too many times. Jazal is a cool dude.
June 9, 2015 5:49 p.m.
Valor is absolutely going in my Jazal list. And like... Jazal and Ajani are brothers, therefore equal. (Jazal is my favorite commander and Ajani, Mentor of Heroes is my favorite walker I can't take sides on this.)

As a returning player of the game and not really playing the game before as anything more then a way to goof off with friends. This whole chat just comes off as " why do people not know as much as me cry cry.." I mean ok maybe WotC are dumbing Magic down or maybe there is more then we know because as far as I can tell none of us work for WotC to know 100%
But most of all be happy that they make the game easy enough to let new players in and understand it faster. Having it easier is not always bad it in itself can help a game live on.

Yeah I get that but it was the whole 'it took an hour' thing and I was like 'huh, really?'
canterlotguardian - I am not applying it to a group. I am applying it to one person, at one time. Not all the people, all the time. There is a huge difference. I probably should have made it clear by adding 'in that moment'.
GeminiSpartanX - Nope. If someone tries to assert something as a pertinent point then I can counter it if I disagree. If it's NOT a pertinent point on the other hand then sure, agree with you 100%.
