MaRo's article got spoiled early, so we have some SPICY Previews with "new" mechanics!
TL;DR: Menace is replacing Intimidate & Landwalk, Prowess is now evergreen primary in Blue secondary in Red and maybe tertiary in White, and Protection is now deciduous used only as necessary.

Yup. Protects against land flood, but six mana and a card to create two 1/1 flyers feels a bit steep.
Might play as a 17th land in draft, I suppose.

I'm trying to figure out the artwork on Smash to Smithereens, I'm seeing a scarecrow...
July 2, 2015 11:13 a.m.
That moment when a player casts Starfield of Nyx with 5 or more enchantments & the very next turn the opponent casts Languish to wipe most of their board
July 2, 2015 11:16 a.m.
Pretty glad to have Smash to Smithereens again. Strictly better than Shatter in my opinion.

A sac outlet with no mana cost or tapping required to use the sac ability? It has been a while since standard has had that, right? Or maybe it just seems that way. Either way, it's nice to see a sac outlet in creature form to play real nice with new Lili and Dispolier. Dare to dream:
T1 thoughtseize
T2 dispoiler
T3 Liliana, swing with Dispoiler, daring the opponent to block and activate Lili.
If they don't, t4 you repeat the dare If they continue to not block drop Husk, activate ability and get Lili activated anyway. If they do block then that four drop 5/5 is a fine blocker for planeswalkers.
I do like Christmas...

addaff what about Archetype of Endurance
yeah super costly I know.
July 2, 2015 11:21 a.m.
Nobody talking about Celestial Flare? White just got even better in limited, and it could possibly even be used in the mono white aggro deck people have been thinking of in standard.

Nantuko Husk reprint!!!!! Man I love all the throwbacks to the old sets that I used to play when I was but a wee child

StuntmanTheThird That sequence would be better with Merciless Executioner instead of the husk.
July 2, 2015 11:38 a.m.
HerderOfNerf I just saw that celestial flare reprint, and I can tell you, nobody is more excited about that than me. It was such an absolutely insane and underrated removal spell in sphinx control. Super excited to see it back, exactly what white needed.

That's another one that works in great with the deck, pumpkinwavy, and your right a better play in that specific sequence.
But repeatable sacs for free is still a nice addition.

Another rare... That wizard's gonna be the queen of limited! :D
Translation for the lazy:
type :human wizard
Whenever a creature an opponent controls becomes the target of a spell or ability you control, gain control of that creature for as long as you control Willbreaker.
July 2, 2015 12:10 p.m.
Freakin yeah... As close to my favourite Wing Shards as it could be.
July 2, 2015 12:29 p.m.
Anyone else hyped for Disciple of the Ring? Even with the limited GY ammo (especially with Snapcaster Mage) you can really get a lot of value.
July 2, 2015 12:54 p.m.
And... when did Snapcaster Mage become $82.89? Last I checked it was $50.
July 2, 2015 12:57 p.m.
IvoryFrost says... #23
What's with all these price spikes?
I know why Snapcaster Mage went up but, was there a buy out or something else going on??

How about we just link to a relevant discussion on Modern prices, too much off topic spam.

Horizon canopy is now 99... The prices of modern now are insane.
July 2, 2015 2:27 p.m.
There is literally no reason for wotc to ever do another modern masters at this point. It's made everything that wasn't in modern masters spike, because of the assurance they wouldn't be printed for at least another two years. That's why this has happened. It hasn't lowered the entry level for modern, it's just switched the expensive cards.

Enchanted creature gets +3/+2 and has trample.

Good point, kyuuri117. Back on topic - I hope a strong set like Origins will be good enough to really re-shuffle the metagame, and maybe stabilize prices on some older cards and archetypes if they wane in popularity.
July 2, 2015 3:06 p.m.
Named_Tawyny - Yes, however I think, like previous versions of DotP, many of the dual lands won't be in the associated set. E.g. Bayou is in DotP 2015 but Bayou is definitely not in M15.
July 2, 2015 3:09 p.m.
Reprints I found for Origins in the Duels trailer:
Screeching Skaab, Sigiled Starfish, Knightly Valor, Totem-Guide Hartebeest.
It also seems like we're getting a 4 CMC Arrest at Common, and a 3 CMC Mana Leak at common with a spell mastery Scry 2.

Might of the Masses
Instant
Target creature gets +1/+1 for each creature you control.
Not quiet a Giant Growth but not too bad given the right circumstances.
July 2, 2015 4 p.m.
Named_Tawyny says... #43
Almost always going to be better than Giant Growth in most of the decks that will run it.

You think you can play Elves without Might of the Masses bro? Whatchu think this is?
(a joke plz no hurt me)
July 2, 2015 4:03 p.m.
You know what? We should make a fan-made modern masters because it won't get screwed up.

So... I'm going to have to build a super spammy deck that just gives that new equipment to Charging Badger, along with Might of the Masses!
July 2, 2015 4:37 p.m.
Yep. Don't forget Blood Moon, Thoughtseize, Inquisition, Goblin Guide and every rare or mythic land ever printed that's modern legal (let's face it, it's true). Oh, and Shadow of Doubt! Did I mention Shadow of Doubt?
