MaRo's article got spoiled early, so we have some SPICY Previews with "new" mechanics!

TL;DR: Menace is replacing Intimidate & Landwalk, Prowess is now evergreen primary in Blue secondary in Red and maybe tertiary in White, and Protection is now deciduous used only as necessary.

In draft, Languish is disgusting, and in sealed, The Archor elf does a lot of work if your opponent has walls or if you keep getting rid of your opponent's creatures. (ie. Massacre)

So I got third at my pre-release. My promo was that Pegasus, and my deck ended up being an RW anthem deck due to not really having anything. Only lost one round and barely got third but like a hundredth of a percentage really. Good fun, had a lot of new people at the store too which is refreshing.

Put up some thoughts on the format in the JC3 thread, about what the best white, blue and green commons and uncommons are for limited. Check it out if you're planning on doing draft or sealed.

So pulling two Kytheon (promo and regular) was super fun for my pre-release. Also, I was on the receiving end of Demonic Pact...starting to think that card is being underrated

Magicrafter Languish is gonna be the go to board wipe for black in the upcoming standard meta and especially in limited. Most things die to it so it almost functions as a damnation, plus it weakens creatures making them weaker to bolt, can kill off big creatures after they block. There is a reason that foils are already going for $20.

And Demonic Pact is IMO the MOST underrated card in the set. Everyone thinks it's unplayable, but if you're gonna die anyways, it gets you ridiculous value for three turns, and it can easily turn around a game. I feel it's gonna become a staple in some weird decks, especially ones that make full use of creatures like the catepillar, or Starfield of Nyx (it has a nice interaction where it can kill itself then be rezzed at the end of turn resetting the choices)

I'm personally picking 2 Pacts up for mono black and maybe a Languish or two. Thing is, Languish will suck against Abzan :(

Protip for languish, swing with weanies who would die anyways and let your opponent block, then after they take some damage drop languish and make it a post combat, combat trick. it also works well with reave soul, a board wipe that hits all small creatures plus one big isn't bad

Woah, that is a good idea. Mono-black also runs some 5 toughness fatties that survive it.

Yes, in the right decks it functions as a one-sided board wipe. It's gonna see play.

Languish won me some games, and in sealed if you combine it with eyeblight massacre you can get a good amount of board wipes, I ran 1 Languish and 2 Massacres, and in 40 card sealed that is a scary amount of board wipe once you throw in other Origins black kill cards. Languish is currently like the second most expensive rare in the set behind Piledriver and even then only behind mythics like the Planeswalkers and Timetwister 2.0 and the Archangel. It's like 8 buck unfoil right now I think...?

Oh and it gets around indestructible because it's not a destroy effect but rather giving a creature Zero toughness.

Epochalyptik - I think we can un-feature this now that the set has been released.
