MaRo's article got spoiled early, so we have some SPICY Previews with "new" mechanics!
TL;DR: Menace is replacing Intimidate & Landwalk, Prowess is now evergreen primary in Blue secondary in Red and maybe tertiary in White, and Protection is now deciduous used only as necessary.

Nissa's strength lies in a ramp shell. I think she'll be alright in EDH, especially with her +1 being essentially card draw.

Ninjas! Ninjas everywhere!
Maybe the Nissa can see EDH play alongside Rampant Growth and others.
June 13, 2015 11:22 p.m.
I can't tell, but what is Nissa's last ability cost to activate? I can't tell if it's another -2 or a -7.
But I like Jace, it looks like that Chandra is indeed legit, and I like Nissa but am skeptical of her place in competitive formats.
Also...inb4 Nissa+Scapeshift in Modern.
June 13, 2015 11:24 p.m.
JDMCRIB - I am thinking that maybe Jace is playable in Modern Storm. Maybe. He does flip quite easily in the Storm deck.

Looks like a -7 for the ultimate. Her second ability is a -2, looks like.

Jace in delver looks incredible. Like, REALLY, REALLY GOOD XD
June 13, 2015 11:26 p.m.
I will forever brag that I am the first one who thought of Jace in Delver if it becomes a thing. Let it be known to all!
Lol, just kidding :)

Could we have an eternally playable Jace that's not JtMS? Audible surprised gasp!
June 13, 2015 11:27 p.m.
Is delver in the market for a looter? What does Jace do that delver really wants? That said, I could see it as a 2 of in various blue shells, but not the current grixis shell.
June 13, 2015 11:29 p.m.
GoldGhost012 says... #13
Well, eternally as in Modern. I know using the term "eternal" for Modern is incorrect, I just used it rather than "nonrotating," which is what Modern technically is.
June 13, 2015 11:30 p.m.
By the time you'll play it, it's essentially a 2-mana 'walker. And besides, its +1 fights against Zoo, burn (Goblin Guide does 0!), and the mirror match. Its -3 is a worse Snapcaster Mage (only on your turn, so no Cryptic Command bs), but it's still good, and repetitive on the same card. And the ultimate isn't an instant win, but it basically is.
That seems pretty good to me. Does anyone not see my comment about the Delve shell? Lol

The Nissan and jace requirements looks super easy to meet... I'm actually pretty glad that happened

FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #16
Just the fact that's he's two mana is good. He draws cards and fuels Delve. He stops aggro by snapping his fingers. He can be flipped easily. He's got some nice interaction with the spells he discarded earlier (and they can be reused by Snappy!!!). His ult turns any deck into a mill deck. Am I missing anything? Oh yeah. His walker card is out of Bolt range.
Damn son.

Some of these cards are gonna see modern playtime
June 13, 2015 11:36 p.m.
Sh*t, just realized Jace has 5 loyalty... for 2!?
We finally got our good 2-mana Planeswalker! (Sorry Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded, Jace stole your spot... not like you had one anyway)

The only potential issue is waiting a turn to be able to flip him. But hey, counterspells.

Mizzium Meddler just seems like a worse Spellskite. Obviously, this'll be good in Standard sideboards against burn and the like, but that's it.
Also, it just says "When there are 5 cards in your graveyard." I may be wrong, but it'll check for that whenever the game checks states and stuff (like checking if anyone is at 0 life, etc.) So, it should just flip as soon as it can, like as soon as he ETB. Feel free to clarify.
June 13, 2015 11:47 p.m.
GoldGhost012 says... #24
But since the flip part of the ability is worded with the activated part, he has to activate his ability first for the second part (where he flips) to check the game state and potentially flip him.
Otherwise it would be separated like in Nissa's or Chandra's flip abilities.

It's meta none the less man. It also stops stuff like Ultimate Price, Utter End, Murderous Cut

FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #26
I mean, it's good in Standard, but I don't see it at all in Modern.

Let's talk about another new spoiler:
Displacement Wave
Sorcery
Return all nonland permanents with converted mana costs X or less to their owners' hands.
No rarity, illustrator (or picture), no number in the set. Too good to be true?
June 13, 2015 11:54 p.m.
Oh, didn't see that it was all one ability.
Still, even on turn 3 that's a good card.
June 13, 2015 11:54 p.m.
IndepenentMeta says... #30
I think there's enough creatures that get a trigger ability off being put onto the battlefield that that would mess with the interaction a bit idk.
June 13, 2015 11:57 p.m.
Seems like a worse Cyclonic Rift to me. But you can scale it to whatever you want, which I guess makes it good.
As for the rarity, it'll likely be a rare, but it's not impossible for it to be an uncommon, although that seems extremely unlikely.

I think Nissa is doable in an oriented deck as we currently got Map the Wastes and Explosive Vegetation in Standard. Slow, yes, but kinda doable
June 13, 2015 11:58 p.m.
GoldGhost012 says... #34
Maybe we'll see Rampant Growth again. That'd be pretty cool.
June 13, 2015 11:59 p.m.
HolyFalcon says... #35
So wave is just Ugin -X that can get colorless stuff? Cool.
June 13, 2015 11:59 p.m.
GoldGhost012 says... #36
Displacement Wave is kind of a giant "fuck you" to tokens and creature-based aggro in general. Though you are in general better off casting Crux of Fate anyway.

So, I guess I'm the only one here that has the exact opposite opinion of everyone else's about the planeswalkers.
I don't see how Jace is all that good. For the little time it's still in standard, Courser of Kruphix is FANTASTIC with Nissa, and I actually really like that Chandra.
Now, I do have to say though, I'm also liking this set so far. Sadly I will not be within wifi range for the spoiler season, so you guys have fun without me.

I agree that Nissa has potential. It just needs the right shell. I think Jace, so far, has the most potential to break into other non-EDH formats. I just don't like how Chandra flips.
June 14, 2015 12:14 a.m.
sadly none of the planeswalkers make me excited. :/ i can see jace being decent but his plus 1 doesnt do shit

I see similarities between Mizzium Meddler and Spellskite akin to the relationship between Hushwing Gryff and Torpor Orb.
June 14, 2015 12:39 a.m.
IndepenentMeta says... #43
Yeah it's more like Spellskite for standard right now. Idk if u wanna look at it that way

I will enjoy the new jaces flashback ability, but I hate his ultimate and first one. Nissa seems good.

elpokitolama says... #45
All of them are kinda meh. Chandra could be good if she wan't so hard to flip (Brute Force could do shit here), Jace's -3 is fucking good but the rest of his abilities is shitty. Scapeshift Nissa? :p
Meh, there's only one really interesting card in Origins for now(the dragon). But yeah, Origins wasn't supposed to be interesting for modern in the first place... But it seems fun to draft, at least (and its pretty good looking for beginners, which is its first goal)!
June 14, 2015 5:33 a.m.
I'm sorry, but are these the first official spoilers or just more leaks?

Does anyone else think that Nissa could do some work in EDH? On ETB it's a slightly worse Borderland Ranger, but later in the game it's either a better Kodama's Reach with a body or a Borderland Ranger + Coiling Oracle. Probably good in my Roon of the Hidden Realm.

elpokitolama says... #49
2 mana and easily flippable... And can do at sorcery speed for no additional mana potentially 2 times the work of a Snapcaster mage (without counterspells) before passing out. It's really not an easy card to evaluate. x')
Also, it's really like Chandra was created for EDH. She looks great as a commander!

Yeah, hand filter as early as turn 3, and we still got Delve in current Standard. What we need now is a good reanimator to make him broken
tooTimid says... #1
I agree ghost, I'm not saying she's playable. Truthfully I'm mostly saying that for my own benefit. I thought she required you to cast 3 spells in a turn :P. I can't imagine there's a deck that wants her. Certainly not mono red.
