Magic the Movie. I can't say I believe it will happen, as with many video game/board game/etc adaptations, but with all the lore in Magic, I can just imagine the possibilities. But I can also see all the ways it would end badly with MtG fans. There's plenty of story and lore, but I don't know if this will actually end up following through or just be another dream busted. Or even worse, if it were made "child-friendly" or "child-appealing".
Thoughts?

For this to be good, you would need big money. Do you think they will drop that on a show based off of our card game? The game is made of spells, and supernatural beings. It screams Avatar(the movie) or Star wars budget. Small screen maybe Game of thrones ish. I just do not see this ending well. They would have to change the name because I think that many would avoid it if it was named after the game. Maybe take the names from the sets that they are based in. Too many variables, I sort of hope this does not get done. It could be a disaster for the game, or it could make it blow up even more.

zandl I did read the article. It doesn't matter how many execs they have working on it, they always have project teams in place after deals like this. Most of these types of deals still either fall through or get sat on for years. Take a look at all the movie rights that have been sold over the years vs how many of them acually happen. Quite often production companies will trade movie rights back and forth for years before anything happens. Then there are those reoccuring rumors that Disney will be buying Hasbro...
You don't think Hasbro or WotC would release a bad movie? Do you remember Battleships, Transformers, Dungeons and Dragons, Dragonlance...? Those two companies are responsible for those abominations.
Didgeridooda - I totally agree!

Hey, the only thing wrong with Transformers was that everything blew up! Which I personally liked, although some people weren't as thrilled as I was.

The only thing wrong with Transformers was how they focused too much on the hot-ness of the lead actresses. Other than that, the movies were actually very enjoyable.
"Battleship" has no fucking back-story. What did you expect?
Dungeons & Dragons was a lower-budget film made by a cut-rate director, made before LotR redefined what a "Fantasy" movie is.
I don't think Dragonlance was ever supposed to be considered an A-ranking film, by anybody.

Biggest problem with Transformers was the lack of continuity in the script. So much of it made no sense. Probably not a big deal with Transformers, but if that happens in a Magic movie you know we'd all be pissed.
And like Didgerdoo said, in order for this movie to be an A ranked movie, it's going to need a bigger budget than it will probably get. Yes, at first Dragonlance was supposed to be a big budget movie. That's what everyone (including the original writers) was led to believe.
And yeah, Battleships had no backstory. But for people not familiar with Magic, and most casual players, Magic may as well have no back story either because they aren't familiar with any of the lore. That's where it differs from LotR and Harry Potter - stories that most people were at least vaguely familar with before seeing the movies. The Magic books were hardly bestsellers.
Fact is, Hasbro and WotC made crap movies, and nothing has yet proven that the Magic movie will be any different.

Ok ok, i want three things from this movie.First of all, the characters should all look and act correctly. Jace should NOT have any facial hair or act without thinking. Garruk isn't going to look or act civilized or like someone who isn't the greatest hunter in the Multiverse.Second, storyline. Urza is an awesome planeswalker, Eldrazi take over Zendikar, Phrexia vs Mirrodin, Blah blah blabbity blah.Third, fighting. This explains itself.
As for the movie i do have a few suggestions.Either its some awesome battle against Phyrexia, the path of a certain planes walker (i.e. Jace with Zendikar, Ravnica, etc), or a few blocks mushed into one. (Scars of Mirrodin, RTR, and Zendikar for example)

Chuck Norris would make a great Garruk. The only problem with that is that he would exterminate all planeswalkers, and there goes the storyline.

From a budget perspective, I don't think we're going to be seeing anything Zendikar anytime soon. I wouldn't want to see the great giant tentacle monster be so horribly animated that it ghalls my eyes out. Phyrexia attack on Mirrodin wouldn't be as bad, but I fear for the setting.
Personally, I think the quests of the Weatherlight Saga would be the easiest to do on a low budget scale, it is also the least known, so there wouldn't be as much hate for it if they mess it up. It can also help WotC build up reputation for Vintage and Legacy sets.

I'm just saying, if this gets fucked up I will make a bat out of every crappy common I own, and start home-running directors. Like, straight up super smash bros style.

I would also be upset, but i would think along the lines of Grixis-style torture, and slow poisoning with ground-up poison counters. Hey, they mess up a movie about MTG, they get punished by MTG.
