Marchesa, the Black Rose: a Unique EDH General

So, the new side? set (whatever the official term is called) is Conspiracy.

Just released recently is a Grixi Legendary Creature called Marchesa, the Black Rose.

Immediately I thought of a few amazing ideas.

  1. Undying - TRULY Undying creatures. And don't forget Mikaeus, the Unhallowed in the mix

  2. Unleash, Dam they just became a lot more vicious!

  3. Lastly, INFECT. Keep the life totals high while increasing the power of your contagious little critters. Seems quite powerful.

What thoughts do you have on this General? She is very cost effective and not a terrible body while having the potential to get bigger. It seems viable to me to create a pretty solid deck around her.

I like how she looks like a sneaky creep that sleeps around and murders her victims (specifically Kings due to the "dethrone" and background. haha).

Oh wow. Chick looks good. And she's in some decent colors too for that sort of thing. Having access to blue and black is quite nice

Grave Betrayal would be so BRUTAL! you will forever have control of their creatures once they die so long as you have the enchantment and Marchesa out. NICE.

though the cost is a little silly. idk.

Don't forget Graft cards, they come in with counters as well. Already working on an 1v1 EDH Beatdown Handdestruction

There are already a number of people on here that have been brewing including myself.

There are a lot of possibilities with her for sure but I think I am most excited to try and build a Grixis aggro deck... its counter intuitive to almost all previous grixis decks except maybe Thrax.

She makes card like Flayer of the Hatebound and Oona's Blackguard pretty phenomenal as well as Sneak Attack type effects with sac outlets.

Yeah i saw those interactions already. pretty good. Going to create an infinite combo deck with her since she has access to protection, removal, and card draw(:

I'm definitely getting a foil if I can. I think she'll mix well with Thraximundar and Grimgrin, Corpse-Born too

She looks really cool. She's essentially like Zur - you kill her before she attacks or she becomes damn hard to remove. Although she's a bit less durable than Zur because she won't just tutor up a shroud enchantment etc. I like her - but I don't think she's like awe inspiring.

ChiefBell, good explanation. I agree mostly. I do feel an aggro infinite combo deck is viable with her though. We will see

strange there is alot of governmental key words in this "dethrone" "will of the council" and "parlay" and even the name "conspiracy" has governmental ties feels kinda roman'ey

It's all about making deals with other people because it's a multi player set.

Also I decided that dethrone is kinda clunky. You have to attack the person with the most health which, if you're playing aggro or doing well will be yourself. It is therefore very hard to give her a +1 counter. She has obvious synergy with undying because that puts the +1 counter on a creature a bit more unconditionally. What I'm saying is that it's very likely that she'll make your other creatures hard to remove but she won't be able to trigger dethrone on herself - which is a problem. I've started to see her as a 'lose less' card - excellent if youre doing badly but if you are the person with the most health then she doesn't do tons.

Yehhhhh. There's a lot you could do. I'm just not mad keen on hero centric EDH decks though (that's just a personal thing). We'll see what happens with her. Also you can't go infinite with her because the creatures only return to you at the end step - not straight away. I was thinking of going Blasting Station with undying creatures to insta win. But you can't.

I don't play EDH but can't wait for Conspiracy. The cards look fantastic.

May 16, 2014 5:13 p.m.

I really like this card because it'll encourage players to attack everyone equally most games. That way, those people who play no threat early game huge threat late game commanders will still get hit a few times but by no means focused keeping it an all around even game. I think it promotes really fun multiplayer gameplay.

I also made a commander deck with her at the helm. I've been play testing and it's pretty fun. My deck's here:Lapin Angelique Suicide Special I'm excited to play Unspeakable Symbol because it can keep you from being the player with the highest life and it put counters on your creatures.

I totally forgot it was at the end of turn. Wow, I dislike it a lot. Alright, moving on . . . hahaha. oh and DeathsXblackecho, awesome synergy! Unspeakable Symbol is perfect for her haha
