So why is it that the mardu horde which supposedly prides itself on speed and aggro actually has what is in my opinion the best list for control right meow. Examples?
You get my point. Dega has awesome stuff so thats where i'll be for sure. In fact between those ten cards and land that is basically the list i will be running lol

Strictly speaking, only Crackling Doom is actually a Mardu card...the other's are just in Mardu Colours :P
Utter End does feature Zurgo, but it doesn't have the Mardu watermark.

Same, that's my general plan. Also a couple Stormbreath Dragon s. So looking forward to Mardu Charm.

I get what you mean though, these colours are getting some insanely solid removal in this set and powerful control cards from Theros block like Thoughtseize and of course Elspeth, Sun's Champion .
I still foresee a sufficiently powerful aggro deck to fly the Mardus flag high and mighty.Dat Raid though.

Dud you mean in the land of control the one armed aggro deck is king? Lol i actually dont know what youre getting at i just like how OP and efficiently dega answers everything as of now. Brain Maggot + Thoughtseize can disrupt hands early, Anger of the Gods hoses every single ramp/aggro deck since its the only thing on the curve that can deal with caryatids setting the board back to 0, Banishing Light + Utter End answer literally anything to hit the field, and Elspeth, Sun's Champion + Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker as wincons are an extremely powerful mix! Really liking the degaba system as of late. And blue eyes i obviously mean dega like try casting all these spells in any other type of clan's deck and you are forced to splash a color toning down the power and consistency for mana fixing and taking more self damage

It makes me sad that I wanna play Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker , Nissa, Worldwaker , Elspeth, Sun's Champion , and Hero's Downfall . Because I know I can't. Even if the mana is good enough for 4-color (and I'm not sure it is), I wouldn't be able to find the balance necessary.
And Utter End . Really excited about that one.

But you can exchange Nissa, Worldwaker for Stormbreath Dragon which makes just elspeth and dragons thematically which is super cool, and just run End Hostilities instead! Board wipe hurts nissa anyways but has incredible synergy with sarkhan :p

Ugh, now that is more useless synergies added to the combase. I'm seriously thinking of doing a hard wipe of that entire thing.
September 5, 2014 2:59 a.m.
Well incredible may be a strong word but you can't make nissa and boardwipes work so sarkhan and elspeth seem like the next best thing haha

Black and white are key control colours and they're part of mardu. Reds very good too. It makes sense to see a lot of the control cards fall into those colours. They're not going to print like a green exile spell right? Having said that you'll still have access to all the red and white weenies for aggression.

Mardu certainly seems super powerful. I think it has great potential. I just feel later in spoilers that Sultai will be the most control.
September 5, 2014 7:10 a.m.
Mardu is powerful in both ways. You can build a control deck with lots of removal,Thoughtseize and finishers such as Elspeth, Sun's Champion and sarkhan. I prefer aggro. Lots of good stuff.Soldier of the Pantheon ,Firedrinker Satyr ,Goblin Rabblemaster ,Zurgo Helmsmasher ,mardu ascendancy are some cards that come in my mind for the deck. Combined with burn(Lightning Strike ,Stoke the Flames ,Searing Blood ) and you have a deck!

Don't forget all of the card draw in black (and chandra)

Act on Impulse and Howl of the Horde=dig through your entire deck.

My question is why does the mardu pride itself in speed when so far all of its rare creatures are 5 cmc?

You'll have to play set Generator Servant to see the speed. Apparently he serves more than just Scuttling Doom Engine .
September 5, 2014 10:48 a.m.
Yeah, I'm confused by Mardu's supposed speed. They have had the most cards spoiled, and we have only seen one good aggro creature so far.

Mardu Charm, like the rest of the Khan, is underwhelming. I'm disappointed overall in the "aggro" Khan.
September 8, 2014 9:41 a.m.
For aggro it doesn't look great, but for contol this is a 3 mana instant speed Flame Slash or Duress or Raise the Alarm which ain't half bad, i'll pay 3 mana to make those options instant speed

It's the Boros hangover effect I think. They wanted to downplay aggro.

If everyone is playing control, no one is playing control
