I'm not really sure if this is allowed, but if it's not just kill the thread I guess.http://mythicspoiler.com/

All the commands, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, Goblin Guide, Fulminator Mageis what i'm excited for. What are you guys hyped for?

tooTimid says... #2

Link for the lazy. Seems like that guy that spoiled things early was pretty spot on.

These spoilers are not official, but they are from "reliable sources". I like the list, all mythics are good. No Jugan, the Rising Star et al :)

April 27, 2015 10:27 a.m.

I'm wondering about the inclusion of Incendiary Command? What major/consisent Modern deck archetype runs it?

canterlotguardian: None, it's there to complete the cycle.

Personally? I'm amped for Noble Hierarch. That card should NOT be as expensive as it is, imo.

April 27, 2015 10:34 a.m.

happyman379 says... #8

Looks like I'll have an easier time of getting an Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite

April 27, 2015 10:39 a.m.

@slovakattack it's so expensive because A. it's really good, and B. what other good cards are in that set, seriously. She is the only money card in an otherwise empty set. This reprint should help a little.

April 27, 2015 10:40 a.m.

smackjack says... #10

I sold my playset of Hierarchs at $75 each and I want 2 back. The card is worth at most $10 in my opinion, so pulling one in a pack would be fair.

April 27, 2015 10:49 a.m.

I was scared that something like the Dragons from the first Modern Masters would get a reprint, wasting 3-4 (or even 5) mythic slots. I'll be satisfied with my purchase if this is in fact the list of mythics (and a few rares).

April 27, 2015 10:50 a.m.

smackjack says... #12

Im actually more excited about the uncommons. Will we see Aven Mindcensor, Remand, Path to Exile, Inquisition of Kozilek, Spell Snare, Lightning Bolt, Lightning Helix, Electrolyze?

April 27, 2015 10:57 a.m.

slovakattack says... #13

InfiniteParadoX: I know why she's expensive, it just seems like a moral outrage :P

April 27, 2015 11:01 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #14

A lot of these cards are virtually unplayable in modern. They are also rares or mythics. This is not a good thing.

I hope that the uncommons and commons aren't like this.

April 27, 2015 11:04 a.m.

slovakattack says... #15

ChiefBell: I dunno, I think Cryptic, Mox Opal, Splinter Twin, Karn, Emrakul, Noble Hierarch, Tarmogoyf, Bob, Clique, and Goblin Guide are all great Mainboard cards in their various modern decks. Fulminator mage is a popular SB card.

I find the inclusion of Elesh Norn and Iona odd. I mean, I know I play 4 color Gifts, but I didn't realize that deck was so dominant in the meta as to warrant 2 includes /sarcasm.

The Tezzeret is just weird. Overall, I think there are a few misses, but I don't think it's fair to say that the list has completely missed the mark.

April 27, 2015 11:10 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #16

I would group the cards like this:

Played: Karn Liberated, Dark Confidant, Splinter Twin, Tarmogoyf, Vendilion Clique (could go in the 'rarely' category - we'll have to see what the meta does), Goblin Guide, Noble Hierarch, Cryptic Command, Mox Opal, Etched Champion, Fulminator Mage

Rarely: Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, Iona, Shield of Emeria,

Unplayed: Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre, All Is Dust, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, Tezzeret the Seeker , Austere Command, Profane Command, Incendiary Command, Primal Command

Total cards: 22.

Highly playable: 11

Borderline: 2

Unplayed: 9

I would be pissed off if 50% of the boosters I opened contained a rare that did not let me get into the format, and functioned only as marginal trade fodder.

I'd like a pair of Karns for my Simic Tron, but I really need a set of Hierarchs... Anyone care to estimate whether the price will drop and how soon after release?

April 27, 2015 11:14 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #20

Mythics will likely not drop in value. Rares will. They should start dropping pretty soon after release, if they're going to.

Hopefully this year will be different

April 27, 2015 11:17 a.m.

julianjmoss says... #23

ChiefBell even though mm2 isn't for edh cards, it's a good outlet for reprinting cards and most of the cards that you mentioned are very playable in edh. I don't think it's indicative of a bad set I think it's just wizards taking advantage of a special set.

April 27, 2015 11:18 a.m.

With respect to the mythics, at least we're getting more Modern playables than we got in the first MMA (five - Goyf', Bob, Clique, Kiki, Sword of Fire and Ice, unless you consider Shackles playable), whereas Chief listed 9.

Egann says... #27

The real problem is that Modern's meta is too tight for opening booster packs to help anybody get into the format. The selection of rares and MRs would have to get reasonable value, it would be unplayable in draft. Which would, in turn, undermine the very reason for opening packs. 90% of this will go to playing EDH, not Modern. I commend WotC for making a valiant effort to make a doomed idea work, but that doesn't change that it was a doomed idea from the start.

Like I said in the other thread, WotC should have released a tier 2 "Modern Intro" deck with a playset of staples so there would be no gambling involved.

April 27, 2015 11:44 a.m.

Snake_Oil says... #28

Egann

Why not go nuts and bring out two new modern decks and reprint the first? B/W tokens, Mono-Blue Tron and R/G Zoo, just as an example?

Would have been nice, and have MM15 as support to it with rares that could be put into the decks.

April 27, 2015 12:19 p.m.

Egann says... #33

@Skulloelegy: I'm not saying multiple decks would hurt--in fact a modern duel-deck would be really cool. That's not why WotC won't do it.

WotC has an aversion to selling a deck which is even remotely functional in the format it's intended to operate in. Take an Intro Deck filled with one- and two-offs to FNM and you will find out the hard way it's not even remotely viable. I understand the theory of this in paper--you want players to have room to customize their decks--but in the age of the netdeck and Ebay singles orders? This is a hold-over attitude back from Magic in the 90s and early 2000s which has no place in the Standard of today.

Translate this to Modern, which is much faster and needs much tighter deck construction; Wizards will never print a deck which is even marginally functional in Modern.

Again, I look at MM15 spoilers and I see a lot of cards I would love to play EDH with. Modern? not so much.

I hear a lot of people complaining... I don't have a lot of cards, and haven't played a lot of decks because of my budtget. Pesonally, I preordered 2 boxes after goyf was spoiled, and after I saw the new spoilers, I'm happy with my decision. I have yet to be disappoined by this set.

Everyone is wishlisting so hard, and griping that they don't print only the competitive powerhouses. It's called Modern Masters because it takes cards from the legal Modern format, as in cards with the Modern frame. Whether the cards are or are not actually played competitively is almost irrelevant:
- Wizards does not print solely for the needs of one format, let alone one competitive format, let alone one deck, and especially not for your deck.- Keep in mind that trying to print only what is "good" for the competitive Modern format is almost futile because future sets can and will change what is or is not playable.
- Keep in mind that final card choices will be determined by the limited draft format, as well as what can or should be reprinted into the Standard format such as Thoughtseize.
- If Wizards printing decisions offend you, perhaps you will find more positive responses to your feelings in the Tumblr community.

x754 says :

"f Wizards printing decisions offend you, perhaps you will find more positive responses to your feelings in the Tumblr community."

but also says : "Everyone is wishlisting so hard, and griping that they don't print only the competitive powerhouses"

is being offended at people being offended grounds to have the moral high ground?

That Aside, I'd like to see more Blood Moon that card is amazing across multiple formats and would be ideal to become more accessible for casual and competitive players alike.

April 27, 2015 1 p.m.

For someone looking to finish off multiple modern decks, this is certainly fine by me. I for one like almost all of the cards spoiled (I don't even play EDH). The only ones I'm not too keen on are the non-Emrakul, the Aeons Torn eldrazi, the non-Cryptic Command commands, and Tezzeret really. The rest I wouldn't mind pulling. And the others that I'm not too entranced with are worth at least $10 anyways, except Tez.

I mean, there are some that I probably would just never play myself due to my preferred style of play (cough, Mox Opal, cough) but that doesn't mean they aren't welcome reprints to me.

Compared to a standard set, in which there may be ONE mythic I want to pull, I'd like to get copies of a lot of these, and the others I still wouldn't mind seeing (except Tez... xD). That's at least something, right?

MM2015 looks great so far. I think it's a smart move by Wizards to try and interest people besides the Modern spikes.

April 27, 2015 1:41 p.m.

"Making Modern accessible to new players"

Not when hype for ALL THE AWESOME REPRINTS causes box prices to shoot up so high that only the Modern players who could afford the original cards to begin with, can afford the MM2015 product. (I.e. the people who didn't need the reprints to begin with.)

April 27, 2015 1:49 p.m.

I'm happy with the list so far as it has some cards that needed reprints and looks like the beginning of an interesting draft format, one that won't last long with the supplies but still. I know I'm hyped to purchase 1 or 2 boxes to use for some personal drafts and to turn into a cube.

April 27, 2015 1:59 p.m.

@VampireArmy
I'm not in search of moral high ground, though I might happen to end up looking or sounding like it. I see that the community consistently focuses on competitive playability, as if printing anything else is "pleb" or "meh" or "fodder". I am disappointed the community consistently has unrealistic expectations of what Wizards should be doing, and consistently seems out dissatisfied with what Wizards is trying to do.

Replies to this thread make it feel like the people happy with the product are a timid minority. Especially this early in a spoiler run, in a product intended for Limited play, in a product with potential nostalgia value, attracting the interests of new or casual players, and in a thread asking what people are excited for. This doesn't happen with threads about new sets because everyone is busy being excited about what new cards will change Standard (or Modern).

Discounting my post, your reply, and this post (3 posts), the current feeling of the thread is 13 positive, 17 neutral, and 11 negative. The negative posts are longer on average, making a greater number of points or statements than positive or neutral posts. The positive posts are shorter on average, providing little discussion.

Maybe I have an atypically positive view, in that I am usually excited about whatever Wizards is printing rather than upset about it. I'm personally very satisfied with this list, as it includes:
- Modern playables that saw price increases because of Modern Masters 1
- colorless Eldrazi for EDH and casual and Battle for Zendikar hype
- the Command cycle complete again after being scattered across different products
- Modern playables in the form of Noble Hierarch, Goblin Guide, and friends
There is nothing in the list so far that I would not be happy to pull. I started playing in Scars of Mirrodin, so I simply don't have many of these cards, and did not get to play in the formats where they were printed. All I got to see was Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite with Unburial Rites. I am pleased that the newer players who joined because of Innistrad block might pick this up. I am also pleased that the players who quit Magic because of Affinity, or Dredge, or Jace, the Mind Sculptor, and came back because of RTR, get to play with what they missed.

I have preordered a box before I saw that spoiler. The box will be drafted for sure and that is the only way I envision this product being used.

I got a box for $185 at my LGS, while CFB and have them going for $250 a pop. At that price, I decided not to hesistate.

Baltec says... #49

@x754 I definitely get what you are saying about getting non-competitive reprints. I want a few myself cough Glimpse the Unthinkable cough. My problem is paying ten dollars (probably more) for a pack and getting a 50 cent rare. If I am paying that much for a pack of cards I should at the very least get a 2-3 dollar rare.

April 28, 2015 11:11 a.m.

Yeah tbh if the remaining spoilers are this quality I think Modern Masters 2015 will be a pretty awesome set to buy from. Like sure Elesh Norn or the Eldrazi or Tezzeret aren't played in the Modern Format they ARE great cards that are in dire need of reprint

All the price gouging and the fact that most of these cards won't actually drop in price any does kill a lot of my interest in this set tho
