So, the upcoming Modern Event Deck appears to be B/W tokens with Elspeth, Knight-Errant . What do you think the odds are that we could see either a Marsh Flats or Bitterblossom included?

Honestly, that's pretty disappointing. All the cards they mentioned are only a couple years old. And none have any real value. There will have to be something with value (possible either Bitterblossom or Marsh Flats ) just to make it to the $80 MSRP, but it looks like the deck will probably be terrible. Seems like Wizards could have come up with something better and more creative if they really want to push modern so hard.

If Wizards really wants to promote the Modern format, then they have to print Modern-playable cards in ways that are accessible to the core MtG player. Modern staples have to be reprinted in real, actual sets, or they're just going to have another MMA on their hands. Peaking interest in something while simultaneously raising the barrier to entry is not a good long-term strategy.

I dunno, if its BW tokens, I'll buy it. I don't have a modern deck, but if I did I'd want to play BW tokens. Most of the deck is cheap anyway, so they should throw in at least one expensive card. Or a playset of Inquisition of Kozilek and Path to Exile

Maybe its just me, because I've been trying to get in to modern and I was hoping the new event deck would help, but I really don't think this deck will be very good. You will probably need to put a bunch of money into it just to make it semi playable and even then won't come close to tier 2 even. Like NobodyPicksBulbasaur said, if they really want to make modern more attractive to new players they need to reprint the cards in a more accessible set that will make them affordable. But they won't do that because everyone who's invested in the cards already will be up in arms.

Event decks in general are very playable and can hold their own in a semi-competitive environment. They won't win any tournaments, but they can probably win a few games at FNM. I would expect no less from a Modern event deck. Seeing that it has an MSRP of $75, it can be expected to have at least one or two currently expensive cards in it.

I think it's really cool that they are making a Modern event deck. I just think that it's a bad long-term strategy for the company to raise interest in a format that is getting increasingly expensive to play competitively. If they want to keep new players interested they're going to need a way to make sure the average Joe can actually afford to play. This sort of event deck doesn't do that for anyone who isn't interested in B/W tokens

I wouldn't say they're "very playable", at least not straight out of the box. Maybe its just my meta, but if I brought an un-altered event deck to fnm I probably wouldn't win a game. They can definitely be used as good bases. Throw a little money in to make some more 3 and 4 ofs and add dual lands and you've got a chance. But the problem with this one is that those "extra" cards you'll need to invest in will be cards like Bitterblossom that cost 60 bucks. I agree with you though, that if they really want to push modern they need to make modern stables significantly more affordable.

In all reality i can see Bitterblossom being in this event deck. It would justify the cost of the set and it would also allow people to get them and get interested in modern more. Just like they are putting Remand in the Jace vs Vraska Duel Deck. They are providing limited access to specific cards so that there is a limited influx of the card, but as others have said many of the cards needed to make modern accessible for Joe Dirte is to print things in standard block so that the new masses who haven't been playing since Alpha can get the more powerful cards they need.

I always wanted to make a B/W token deck :3. Btw would they sell this type of product in walmart or target like a normal event deck or will this be only available to card shops like FTV sets? because if it turns out it has Bitterblossom or a fetch land or two its not going to be easy at all to find in a card shop or the price might be even higher than the MSRP. ):

If they sell this in a LGS. Trust me, its not going to be at MSRP, its going to be double or more, as seen with like, every FTV ever.

Unless we see multiple money cards or a collective deck value ~$100+ when the full list gets revealed, I don't see it going too far over MSRP. I think we would have to see multiples of either Marsh Flats or Bitterblossom , or even 1 of each to see it go for double. LGS retailers know they can't get double MSRP for it if Elspeth and/or 2-4 Godless Shrine s are the biggest value of the deck because nobody is gonna pay that for those.

Remember folks, those claiming it'll be a lot more over msrp, this isn't a limited print run. I believe it'll be lgs/hobby store only distribution, but the availability will be there.
