Confirmation here

What do you think will be reprinted, excluding the obvious Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Etched Champion?

I'm speculating that Birthing Pod, Phyrexian Obliterator, Vendilion Clique and Cryptic Command will be seeing reprints, along with Zendikar fetches.

Probably not going to be able to afford it but what the hell, here's my hopes.

Noble Hierarch

Check lands

Karn Liberated

Eldrazi Lords

Damnation

Praetors (Vorinclex & Elesh Norn)

Possibly ZEN fetches

I'm not much of a modern player but I need some of these for EDH and casual

any idea on the price of a box (pre-order sale price)? Am I looking at 200 dollars or 300 dollars per box?

December 7, 2014 7:32 p.m.

JexInfinite says... #3

~$200

December 7, 2014 7:38 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #4

I'll quote myself again:

Well it's $10 RRP. 24 packs would be $240 worth.

A normal box has 36 packs at $4 making it worth $144. Most places sell them for what......... $100? Which is about 33% off.

33% off $240 is $160.

if your right at 160 imma buy a box

December 7, 2014 8:21 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #6

If a normal box is "buy 25, get 11 free", then these should be about 250.

It's 24 to a box because drafting.

I'd like to see Oracle of Mul Daya reprint. It's one of my favorites from Zendikar, and certainly used widely enough to warrant it.

I'm just praying for Zendy fetches and Goblin Guides for a R/W Burn deck I'm building.

December 7, 2014 8:59 p.m.

Mox Opal please? Karn, maybe?

Tron is way too expensive right now D:

I think Damnation will be reprinted, cause it got pulled from the FTV Annihilation at the last moment, and i dont see wotc putting it back into standard.

subrosian says... #13

Looool I just bought a playset of Etched Champion yesterday... Is that good or bad?

Cards I'd like to be less expensive:

Mox Opal

Noble Hierarch

Serum Visions

Remand

And of course Misty Rainforest and friends, but I think I subscribe to the theory that they'll be reprinted in Dragons of Tarkir. What sucks is that a good deal of cards I'd like to get are from Innistrad block... Geist of Saint Traft, Cavern of Souls, etc.

December 8, 2014 12:07 a.m.

JexInfinite says... #14

subrosian I'm not a fan of the fetches in Dragons theory, but it's a safe assumption that they will be in MM2. Adding enemy fetches to standard would make wedges far superior to shards, and that's not something you want to do.

December 8, 2014 12:11 a.m.

asasinater13 says... #15

making wedges greater than shards is exactly what wizards wants to do, they had a wedge set.

December 8, 2014 12:45 a.m.

JexInfinite says... #16

asasinater13 Wedges are already really good, because they have cards MADE for them. There's no point in punishing unique and rogue strategies to make wedges stronger than they already are. Out of the current top decks, all of them are wedges.

By removing the advantage that shards have with their mana base, you essentially make at least 3 successful decks not preferable to play.

December 8, 2014 1:22 a.m.

-Fulcrum says... #17

@JexInfinite: With painlands, there is already pretty good mana fixing in every 3 color combination. Adding in the other fetches won't really change that.

I am going to be selfish and ask for cards to finish my UWR control. PLEASE REPRINT Vendilion Clique, Cryptic Command, Celestial Colonnade AND Scalding Tarn.

December 8, 2014 2:06 a.m.

ness64 says... #22

What do you guys think of the possibility of Remand and Aven Mindcensor? I think that some of the Leylines like Sanctity, Punishment, and Void will be reprinted.

December 8, 2014 2:37 a.m.

ness64 says... #23

Also, I think that Threads of Disloyalty could be reprinted, as well as Through the Breach. Molten Rain as common and Sowing Salt as uncommon?

December 8, 2014 2:41 a.m.

-Fulcrum says... #24

@ness64: Almost everything you mentioned is possible, but it's all just baseless speculation at this point.

The only thing I seriously doubt is Remand. After all, it just got the reprint in Jace VS Vraska.

December 8, 2014 2:44 a.m.

tyforthevenom says... #25

I want waffle and syrup

December 8, 2014 7:12 a.m.

JexInfinite says... #26

ness64 I held of trading for mindCensor, because even though it is probably going to be in MM2, it depends what rarity it's being printed at. If it's a rare, it will sit at around $10, but if it's uncommon, it will drop to about $5.

Remand will retain value, so they're fine to keep around.

December 8, 2014 7:24 a.m.

Rayenous says... #27

I'm thinking possibly the Urza's Power Plant cycle... to go with Karn Liberated and Emrakul, the Aeons Torn.

Some cards that could be reprinted, possibly at an altered rarity:
Serum Visions at Uncommon.
Inquisition of Kozilek
Lightning Bolt, possibly at Uncommon
Spectral Procession and if so Intangible Virtue (If there's a tokens theme).
Beast Within
Glistener Elf and if so, Groundswell (If there's an Infect theme)

I would hope for some of the 'man-lands' instead of various duals.
Celestial Colonnade, Raging Ravine, Creeping Tar Pit, Lavaclaw Reaches, Stirring Wildwood

December 8, 2014 8:23 a.m.

jr92_2000 says... #28

Why do people keep mentioning enemy fetches? This would be a terrible product to reprint them in. They need to be in a large, standard legal, print run to affect their price.

December 8, 2014 8:24 a.m.

tyforthevenom says... #29

As common/uncommon Expedition Map

December 8, 2014 8:32 a.m.

robrone9 says... #30

JR, I agree about the fetches but if mm15 can't affect the price of cards what is the point? I hope it makes them cheaper... Much cheaper.

December 8, 2014 8:33 a.m.

Rayenous says... #31

oh.... I guess not Intangible Virtue (was from Innistrad)... possibly Honor of the Pure instead.

And I would also hope for a good number of sideboard cards.
Leyline of Sanctity
Spellskite
.... etc.

December 8, 2014 8:34 a.m.

robrone9 says... #32

Yea, spellskite is my only real "must get a playset" right now. Really hope they can be had for ~5$ after launch.

December 8, 2014 8:47 a.m.

jr92_2000 says... #33

@robrone9 MM2015 should have an impact on modern prices. How much will depend on how limited the print run is.

ZEN fetches are a different animal, though. They're in high demand and essential for the eternal formats. They saw a bit of a price drop when the KTK fetches were announced; some of that is likely just pressure being alleviated with the new modern legal fetches, but there's also speculation of a future reprint. If that reprint happens in a limited, hard to find set, the prices of the ZEN fetches may actually increase as a result.

JRaynor says... #35

Horizon Canopy, Goblin Guide, Celestial Colonnade, Cryptic Command, Noble Hierarch, would prob be my obvious wishes. They're plenty others is be excited for too though. I hope a box is 160. I could do that but straight 10 a pack is brutal.

December 8, 2014 10:07 a.m.

jr92_2000 says... #36

@tyforthevenom The set name is officially "Modern Masters (2015 Edition)"

Ensnaring Bridge would be nice.

December 8, 2014 10:16 a.m.

The_Raven says... #38

Wait. Is there going to be a MM every year?

I hope for Blood Moon.

I don't hope that Goblin Guide gets a reprint. I don't hope Karn AND Emrakul gets a reprint. I don't hope that both Arcbound Ravager AND Mox Opal gets a reprint. There needs to be some expensive card in each deck. We can't just have all decks to be 5$ for their most expensive cards... Every modern deck should have at least one expensive card.

December 8, 2014 10:25 a.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #39

jr92_2000 You're right. If they reprint Zen fetches they'll have new artwork & boarders & will likely drive the price of the reprints up Goyf style. As some one who owns the Zen fetches. I would love to see this happen. As some one who would also love to use Verdant Catacombs in standard I won't be dissapointed if they do decide to reprint their instead. I would love to pick up 2nd playsets for 40$ a pop. However from a business standpoint. I'd rather use something guaranteed to sell packs* at 10$ a pack then at 4$ a pack.

*fetches, see KTK as an example, that shitty set would have been Born of the Gods status without fetches

NorthernRaven Y? Affinity used to be the formats budget deck that u could own for under 200$ (with opals) now it's 200$ for a play set of just the opals?

Hatebears... used to be a cheap deck

Infect or anything requiring Noble Hierarch used to be a cheap deck.

Burn (M-Red) used to be a cheap deck. Goblin Guides were like 5$

Please enlighten me as to how paying more for the same stuff improves decks for any one?

December 8, 2014 10:43 a.m.

DarkHero says... #40

Modern as a whole needs to become more accessible. I think Wizard will start to lose people if it doesn't happen. Especially where Standard is losing people because it moves too fast. Modern at least has some staying power. Too many people are opting to play casual EDH, tabletop, or just for free online to save money because getting the cards to be relevant in Modern often requires arm, leg, and firstborn. Modern Masters should be a great way to even out the prices a little, but when the first one becomes this unattainable, it's really just giving a few a chance to grab all of the staples at once, where those that couldn't afford it before still can't.

December 8, 2014 10:52 a.m.

JexInfinite says... #41

APPLE01DOJ Affinity was generally around $400 forever, and the cards just got a lot more expensive.

Burn is now a $300+ deck when it used to be $150.

On the other hand, UWR has gone down about $400, and control is generally cheaper. Even Pod is cheaper. The only decks that have basically remained unchanged are B/G/x.

I'm guessing that NorthernRaven didn't want RDW, Tron, and Affinity to get all these great reprints, making them really appealing for newer players.

You do know that KTK has Delve, Prowess and is one of the best draft sets in a while? Drafting was a bit boring back in RTR block, and THS block wasn't too much better, but KTK has definite directions as to what is playable, rather than giving you a bunch of crap.

December 8, 2014 10:54 a.m.

The_Raven says... #42

APPLE01DOJ, why not just reprint old dual lands, so we can get the price down? Wouldn't that be better for everyone?

There should be a difference between the prices of the formats. Standard is the cheap one. Modern as number 2, legacy as number 3 and so on. If people want to play on budget, they should just play standard, or a cheap version of a modern deck.

I'm also wondering about how much money people are going to lose, if the prices of the stables fell a lot...?

December 8, 2014 10:55 a.m.

JexInfinite says... #43

Hopefully there will be a Linvala, Keeper of Silence reprint. I'd love to get one of her.

December 8, 2014 10:56 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #44

@NorthernRaven That is why there is a limited print run. It will make the staples more accessible while it is in print, and the cards will take a slight dip in price. However, it should also increase the popularity of Modern, which will make people want to test out more decks or create new ones. And that leads to the prices increasing. Look at Tarmogoyf as an example, his price went up a lot after he was printed in MM1.

Also Wizards can't reprint the ABUR duals since they are on the Reserved list. That's why they are instead reprinting fetches, it makes it easier and cheaper to get into legacy.

December 8, 2014 11:04 a.m.

I dunno, commander is pretty cheap, depending on the deck.

Also, saying that all the poor people should play standard isn't really fair. What if we want to play with more than three blocks of cards?

December 8, 2014 11:11 a.m.

The_Raven says... #46

lemmingllama, I don't quite get it... Are you saying, that the prices will go up, when the cards are getting reprinted? And that it is good?

ThisIsBullshit. I'm a poor player too. That's why I built some cheap RDW to start with. And then slightly improved it.

Okay, let me be honest. I JUST bought some Goblin Guides. What if they are reprinted very soon? Then I'll loose a lot of money.

December 8, 2014 11:20 a.m.

MangoPunch says... #47

Anyone know a good place to preorder these from?

December 8, 2014 11:25 a.m.

jr92_2000 says... #48

I don't see a good reason to protect collectors. This is a card game first and foremost and not reprinting staples just hurts new players trying to get into the format.

And even with reprints, the original artwork/version still demands a premium. Onslaught Polluted Delta may not be a $100 card anymore, but it's still ~$20 more expensive than the KTK version.

December 8, 2014 11:30 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #49

@NorthernRaven Prices will drop, people who need the cards will pick them up. More copies, but then more players will start up. I'm not saying that prices of all cards will go up, rather that the original printings will become more valuable. People who want the fancy Future Sight borders on their goyfs will have to pay more, and everyone else can pick up the cheaper Modern Masters copies.

For example, look at City of Brass's original printing. It took a hit when MM1 came out (July 2013), but it went up as a result of more people wanting the fancy original card.

December 8, 2014 11:42 a.m.

DrLitebur says... #50

I wasn't sure what, if anything, I was going to say in this topic. I play modern only once in a blue (or Blood) moon, and while that doesn't entice me to pay the cost to get the packs, what does is this:

I drafted MM1, and bought a few packs on the side. I got some pretty nice things out of it for my EDH playing, which I wish I could play a lot more of. Now, am I going to pay $10 a pack for a lot of them? I might, and I stress might, buy three packs to see if I get near my money's worth out of them, just because of the last print of MM1, where I got EDH staples that I use in almost every deck I build, like Glimmervoid, Academy Ruins, Glen Elendra Archmage and others I would have loved to get a hold of like Doubling Season and Elspeth, Knight-Errant. I was even fortunate enough to get a few of the old Sarkhan Vols for my dragon-deck pleasure.

So, yes, it might be worth it, but I am not sure that unless they reprint something very much worth our while, the value of the set will not be worth the steep entry fee.

Just my two cents.
