Modern Masters 2015 Booster design

So they revealed that the English language boosters will be made of recyclable cardboard and showed us the back of the booster.

The blue color scheme doesn't really give anything away, but what do people think about the non-foil booster packs?

seems fine

YES! Finally wizards finds out, that the plastic around the packs wasn't healthy for our environment! Glad they made it recyclable! Hope they do this to all packs from now on!

Rayenous says... #4

No more 'crimped' cards for extra collectibility value, I guess.

+1 for environment!

Certainly hope this doesn't open the possibility of 'repacking', by opening packs without using the strip, and then resealing.

@LIVEFORCHAOS

How better to preserve the smell of cardboard and ink than to wrap it in cardboard and ink?

The_Raven says... #6

Rayenous I really think, that Wizards made them so they can't be mapped!

I'm pretty sure cardboard and ink make that barnes and nobles/fresh booster stank. It should remain untainted. :>

Go enviroment! I hope they start making the cards out of recyclable stuff too now.. (or do they do that already?)

JakeHarlow says... #9

What?? No. Just...no. This looks way too porous. Water and other stuff could get to the cards... :(

The_Raven says... #10

JakeHarlow, there is already plastic around the boxes.

$9.99 MSRP... gotta pay for the new packaging equipment somehow!

JakeHarlow says... #15

I don't understand the change that much, but I'll keep an open mind. It just seems trendy, but maybe there's some actual recycling that could happen here.

once had a foil Omniscience with a crimp on it. Guess the risk of awesome cards being crimped is now gone?

I really like that tear-away strip. No more random packs that just won't open.

Good move by wotc. If they did that with all the new expansions it'd be really awesome.

Dalektable says... #20

This is pretty sweet, honestly. I would like to see WOTC move solely to this if it works out.

I personally love peeling things open that have that perforated cardboard strip. It's like peeling plastic off electronics for me.

ibanner56 says... #22

@Kroto

This is probably a test run. If it works for MMA2 it will probably work for other expansions.

February 26, 2015 10:58 a.m.

What is a crimp?

jandrobard says... #24

Well...

This is certainly an unexpected development. It's cool though, and environmentally friendly.

According to a european site that sells sealed magic products the MSRP for MM15 is at 10 (9.99 to be exact) euro per pack right now. The display consequently is currently priced at almost 240 euro.

The site says the price is likely going to change 2 weeks before prerelease, but not sure if it's going to go up or down.

The higher price could be result of the new card board packs. I'll have to wait for more information to be released though to be sure.

Tbh as a poor university student a higher price would probably make me reconsider playing magic as it's already expensive as is. If pack prices should rise I probably won't play anymore or only draft ocassionally.

@Kroto

tbh I don't remember the last booster I paid for outside of draft. All I pay for is single cards nowadays.

JakeHarlow says... #27

Yeah, buying packs is a horrendous idea, if you're trying to amass value. Buy singles, make deck, win FNM, crack prize packs. That's my formula now.

March 1, 2015 5:30 p.m.

Kroto says... #28

I usually buy a couple packs to play sealed with friends, but that's not gonna happen if prices increase.

For decks I usually buy singles. Maybe should've been more specific. :P

JWiley129 says... #29

The price increase could have something to do with the packaging, but I'd rather have cheaper packs.

Either way, I'm unhappy with the $10 price tag as well.
