Tomorrow, official spoilers for Modern Masters 2015 begin! So far we have officially spoiled:
- Tarmogoyf
- Karn Liberated
- Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
- Etched Champion
- Splinter Twin
- Spellskite
- Vendilion Clique
Remember you can find spoilers at mythicspoiler.com, mtgsalvation.com, and at wizards homepage.
Large sets like this one usually get 15 mythics. So far we have 5 colorless mythics, 1 white mythic, and 2 mythics for each other color. So we're really missing 1 white mythic, which is probably Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite if the early leak is to be believed.
And yes, Simic Growth Chamber is the last card in the set, so no Urza lands.

Are we getting the full Praetor cycle? I haven't gotten around to any sort of number crunching at all.
May 7, 2015 10:21 a.m.
Not enough space at mythic kameenook. If we get a mythic, it will be a white mythic based on the previous number crunch of 15 mythics.
May 7, 2015 10:22 a.m.
Definitely not. As JWiley said above, we're probably just waiting on a white mythic.
May 7, 2015 10:26 a.m.
Wurmcoil Engine is not impossible... but it's extremely unlikely.
For it to be in the set, the following would have to be true
1) Previous, unconfirmed, spoiler of Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite would have to be false.
and 2) There would need to be an unbalance in color distribution of Mythics.
or 3) There would have to be 16+ Mythics in the set.
or 4) They would have to down-shift the Rarity of Wurmcoil Engine to Rare.
I don't think any of these are likely... though the rarity shift seems to be happening to a lot of cards. - Hopefully, this one is a little to powerful for the shift.

Well..the most dominant deck in the meta just got a whole lot cheaper to build. Sure wish I had waited to build it... guess that's on me.
May 7, 2015 10:47 a.m.
Very nice for a token swarm, or other weenie creature draft deck.

JWiley129 Splinter Twin. With Remand, Spellskite Splinter Twin Cryptic Command, and Vendilion Clique, every key piece of that deck has been reprinted in MM2015...so it just got a lot cheaper to build.
May 7, 2015 10:54 a.m.
well, we'll see how low each of those cards go. But I wouldn't expect Cryptic Command or Vendilion Clique to drop below $50
May 7, 2015 10:55 a.m.
Well, I wouldn't trust Ebay for my pricing guides. But I did just check TCG and HP Cryptics are around $37, but the midprice is still above $50.
May 7, 2015 10:58 a.m.
eBay is not a relevant source of info when establishing a current market price.

My point is...and generally I use eBay for most of my singles buying...you never would see a Cryptic single going for less than $50.00 unless it was in MP condition.
Prices are already dropping as the spoilers have dropped. Twin is gonna be cheaper to build, even Cryptic and Clique lose 1/4 of their value, Remand is going to fall hard, and that was a substantial cost in that deck at like $10-$12 a card.
Snapcaster Mage is the only key piece that won't be reprinted, and so the deck is likely going to be at least $100-$150 cheaper to build at least in the near term. Thats a substantial reduction, especially considering its already the most dominant deck in the meta, it will only become more prevalent. I'm not complaining...I like Twin. I just think thats the reality we're looking at.

Also, TOKENS!!!
I'll put the link here so you can look at them at your leisure, but we have new ones!
Also of note, I bet Bestial Menace gets reprinted and some card that makes golems. b/c of this guy

Rayenous Also, not sure how one of the largest open marketplaces on the planet does not provide relevant info with regard to current market prices. I would respectfully disagree.
May 7, 2015 11:11 a.m.
eBay is a large open market, I agree...
...but it represents less than .01% of the total sales of Magic card singles.
It doesn't even put a dent in the average price of cards. - It's fine for you to use it as your price, if that's where you get your cards... but it does not reflect the true market price.
In fact, people posting card on eBay use OTHER sites and prices to come up with a 'discounted' price... discounted prices, by definition, are not the market price.

If it's something that makes golem tokens, I'd expect Blade Splicer along with probably Maul Splicer.
May 7, 2015 11:18 a.m.
Golem token makes me say... Blade Splicer. Especially with the reprint of Wilt-Leaf.
May 7, 2015 11:19 a.m.
Blade Splicer would make me happy. I'd love to grab her in a draft.

Rayenous I honestly would be very surprised if eBay only represents that low a percentage of single sales. Especially since so many of the established stores and LGSs supplement by also selling on eBay. Out of curiosity, do you have any definitive info where you're deriving this .01% number?

Is it just me, or does that Golem token look a lot like Ultron?
May 7, 2015 11:34 a.m.
I don't remember where the stats came from... and it was a few years ago, so it have have changed slightly.
But the general concept was that big name online stores sell the most singles, followed by LGS's, followed by 'collectible' stores and 'Buy-Sell-Trade' stores... followed distantly by online auctions (including eBay)... and then followed by personal/individual sales such as garage sales and estate sales.

Interesting... It would definitely be interesting to see if that has changed as MTG's popularity has soared over the last couple of years.
May 7, 2015 11:41 a.m.
I also don't know how the stats handled stores selling on eBay...
It's still as 'store sale', but is also an 'eBay' sale.
Most stores selling on eBay use it as a kind of advertising... post good prices there to get the attention, and bring them into their online store.
The stats on eBay sales is likely more to do with actual auctions, rather than 'set-price' sales by stores.

As an aside, look at this sly little **er.
Why is he so happy? WHY!?!?!!

I don't particularly dislike having Comet Storm in the set, but having a nigh-unplayable Constructed card at mythic is ridiculous. If it doesn't break Limited at Rare, put it at Rare. Otherwise, I don't want get to the back of my pack and see a giant disappointment where a Tarmogoyf could have been. Seriously, the card is going for like $1.50 online. This is not helping Modern prices, and thus should not be in this set.
May 7, 2015 11:51 a.m.
Yeh. Ebay doesn't determine or represent true market price. It's its own weird bubble.
May 7, 2015 11:54 a.m.
Comet Storm is a mythic because it's incredibly swingy in Limited. I'll let you start a game with any draft deck, and I'll start with a / deck with a Comet Storm in my opening hand. I'll put a VERY large guarantee that I will win a hefty majority of game where I resolve a Comet Storm either as a Plague Wind or as a Fireball your face.

Yeah, I am almost never buying singles in Auctions, just set price usually from stores sales.

I think it's funny that Starcity almost always puts their cards as out of stock when a reprint is announced. I just looked at 10 different cards that haven't been in modern masters 2013, but we're announced in modern masters 2015 and all of them are out of stock. Lol
May 7, 2015 12:15 p.m.
Look at all the rarity shifting! It's everywhere!
So for RW, we're assuming Auras. That actually makes a ton of sense, considering Sunforger. What about GU? We just got Mystic Snake today.
And then there's the Dread Drone problem. We've already established that RG From is a thing, so then why is there a black Eldrazi?
Due to sheer number crunch, we're done with lands for this set.
Also, Norn and Wilt-Leaf are making me quite ecstatic.

Other than Comet Storm I'm wanting to get all of the Mythics in this set! So is it better to buy a box or 3 or just get the singles is the real question? I like a lot of the rares too, mostly Hierarchs and Fulminator.

i can only find a handful of modern-legal, pre-innistrad cards that make 1/1 white spirit tokens:
Luminous Angel, Seize the Soul, Spectral Procession, Teysa, Orzhov Scion, Transluminant, Twilight Drover
procession fits the spirits and tokens themes, and is the only one actually played in modern. also fits the crunch. but it's also been printed 4 times already, including the modern event deck last year, so i dunno.
also, the presence of one wouldn't exclude the rest. teysa and procession would be cool together, and i think there's still room for teysa, too.
