Am I blind...Or is there really no path?

May 8, 2015 7:29 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #3

No path, no gitaxian probe, no serum visions, no inquisition of kozilek etc.

May 8, 2015 7:30 p.m.

Path is VERY, VERY likely going to be in MTG Origins, so don't worry about that.

May 8, 2015 7:40 p.m.

my thoughts (not that they are worth much, if anything)

Serum Visions gets banned in an effort to control combo decks (while I don't think they need to be controlled, I wouldn't put it past the DCI to just outright ban any sorcery speed library manipulation+cantrip at )

Path sees a reprint in Origins

IoK sees a reprint in BfZ

Gitaxian Probe, while I would have included it in MMA2015, keeps being the $3 common that it is. Its most recent spike was because it works so well with delve. Barring ANOTHER mechanic that makes it a sorcery that reads: look at target player's hand, draw a card, and add to your mana pool. You may use this mana whenever, I doubt that it will go up by much. A reprint even in a duel deck will plummet its value.

Also I know this is a long shot but I'm feeling a Death's Grasp in BfZ. In a world with Sorin and lots of mana, that could be a very real chance. And I don't think it is by any means whatsoever too powerful for modern.

ZippyMTG says... #6

Would make sense. Still. Im not really excited enough to buy a box just to pop. Ill pick one up to draft and that's about it. Too many junk rares for anything else.

May 8, 2015 7:56 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #7

I really do not think sorcery speed draw will be banned in modern when it's that low impact.

May 8, 2015 7:57 p.m.

DatJunkPlayer says... #8

Serum Visions gets banned? Are you kidding? It's the worst cantrip in Modern, and if you can't beat combo decks you really shouldn't be playing.

May 8, 2015 8:55 p.m.

notamardybum says... #9

im actually genuinely upset there wasnt a serum visions reprint. $8 for a common is absurd.

May 8, 2015 8:58 p.m.

Ryotenchi says... #10

Printing bad cards for EDH is more important.... (I'm just mad I didn't start building affinity sooner...)

May 8, 2015 9:07 p.m.

SimicPower says... #11

DatJunkPlayer: Not counting Ponder and Preordain, Serum Visions is the best. They won't ban it though, as it doesn't seem to be dominating tournaments.

I don't think Path will see a reprint any time soon. Just that it was a FNM Promo doesn't mean it will be in an upcoming set. I don't think they've ever used FNM Promos to preview cards before. On the announcement they said July and August promos would be "Modern staples", not that they would necessarily be in any upcoming set.

kameenook says... #12

You also better count out Brainstorm as well those, it beats all of them, excepty maaayyybee Ponder, also Sleight of Hand and Serum Visions get better/worse depending on the deck.

May 8, 2015 9:10 p.m.

JakeHarlow says... #13

Serum Visions is a common at an absurd $8. Ridiculous.

We'd better see a reprint of some kind, soon.

May 8, 2015 9:12 p.m.

DatJunkPlayer says... #14

kameenook I'm talking about the best cantrip that's legal in modern, if we're going to include legacy of course you plebs are going to mention Brainstorm, Ponder and Preordain

May 8, 2015 9:27 p.m.

kameenook says... #15

I was referring to SimicPower's comment, however looking at yours, Serum Visions is the best modern cantrip, I imagine there's a reason MTGtop8.com has it listed as the second most played modern card, trailing behind only Lightning Bolt, and the deck that runs both (U/R Twin) is one of the top dogs.

May 8, 2015 9:37 p.m.

I hate Serum Visions. Do you know how many times I forget to fetch before casting it? Seriously. And I'll be all like "Well I'll never do that again". Until the next game...

At least that isn't as bad as killing yourself with a pact.

May 8, 2015 9:44 p.m.

I think path will see a reprint because landfall is totally coming back in BfZ and I for one cannot WAIT to add the fun of triggering your opponent's landfall

May 8, 2015 10:45 p.m.

Defpotec says... #18

...Or your own, Serendipitous_Hummingbird. Juss sayin.

May 8, 2015 11:11 p.m.

Ryotenchi says... #19

I thought wotc decided landfall was a mistake and claimed they weren't gonna do that again?

May 9, 2015 12:13 a.m.

Runlue says... #20

Ryotenchi pretty sure that was Annihilator.

May 9, 2015 12:14 a.m.

Ryotenchi says... #21

Runlue I've heard that too.. More of it on that in fact... Wish I could cite my source and their reasons.. But eh...

May 9, 2015 12:19 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #22

I've heard the same thing about Landfall as well. Too powerful for Limited or something.

May 9, 2015 12:42 a.m.

Defpotec says... #23

Breaking news: Zendikar was an overpowered block, and even WotC knew it.

Let's hope BfZ is the same. Gimme some value, Wizards!

May 9, 2015 12:45 a.m.

Ryotenchi says... #24

Yes plz?!

Eldrazi 2 stronk 4 Magic

May 9, 2015 1:29 a.m.

6tennis says... #26

What'll all the Johnnies do in a meta full of Eldrazi-playing Spikes?

Git gud.

May 9, 2015 1:34 a.m.

Ryotenchi says... #27

I don't feel there is enough mana ramp eldrazi for it to be a spike thing. O.o

May 9, 2015 1:36 a.m.

6tennis says... #28

But ya see, ya didn't git gud. Summoning Trap. Git gud.

May 9, 2015 1:38 a.m.

Hey is anyone awake???

May 9, 2015 1:38 a.m.

Hjaltrohir says... #30

I am actually quite disappointed in the overall set. It started off good but all the new cards are fairly bulk. I am almost regretting ordering a box. Almost.

May 9, 2015 1:40 a.m.

Ryotenchi says... #31

I haven't yet and I probably will still for the chance of pulling playable commons and uncommons that I need for affinity.. Too bad nexus is soon to be 50$ in a week.. (I'm not SRS about that and I hope I'm dead wrong.)

May 9, 2015 2:46 a.m.

Ryotenchi says... #32

Comet storm trollage though.. Not happy with that.. Could have used a Horizon Canopy reprint..

May 9, 2015 2:48 a.m.

-Fulcrum says... #33

I have not been subscribed to any of the previous 21 pages, so I don't know what has been discussed, so I'll bring up the two points that I noticed just on my initial analysis of the set.

  1. Daybreak Coronet is almost completely unplayable.

  2. Domain is almost completely unplayable.

May 9, 2015 3:20 a.m.

-Fulcrum says... #34

In draft, I mean.

May 9, 2015 3:26 a.m.

Defpotec says... #35

Yep, five color is out, and there are only two other beneficial auras in this set... And blue looks like weaksauce here.

May 9, 2015 4:26 a.m.

buildingadeck says... #36

Blue gets Remand, Guile, Cryptic Command, and Mana Leak with access to big artifact spells. I wouldn't say blue is weak. It depends on your pulls and your play style.

May 9, 2015 6:22 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #37

You do not count the strength of a colour in draft on the rares.

May 9, 2015 6:39 a.m.

smackjack says... #38

May 9, 2015 6:45 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #39

Coronet on twin does nothing. One of them wont be used.

May 9, 2015 6:47 a.m.

smackjack says... #40

ChiefBell You can attack and then use twin..

May 9, 2015 7:09 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #41

..... To get a token that has to be exiled almost immediately?

I guess if its a mana dork or something with an activated ability it could be useful. If it doesn't have one you just make a token that does nothing.

May 9, 2015 7:12 a.m.

Defpotec says... #42

Well, good news is that it's just a single rare...

Was kind of hoping for shocks with domain being a keyword here. Not much support for burn, and tribal flames would have been sweet to fill that void.

Sooo blue eldrazi control is the deck to beat/build?

May 9, 2015 7:14 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #43

How are you going to cast those eldrazi?

May 9, 2015 7:14 a.m.

Defpotec says... #44

I'd hardcast them after snatching all of the nonbasic lands I could during draft... If I don't see eldrazi, it wouldn't be hard to shift it into artifacts in esper colors depending on my pulls.

May 9, 2015 7:18 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #45

Those nonbasic lands do not actually ramp you up because they return a land to your hand when you play them. Therefore it is still going to take you at least around 8 turns to cast one. There is a fair amount of ramp like Rampant Growth and Everflowing Chalice, but these all only add one mana. If you really tried you could probably cast an 8 drop on T5 but that's still a bit.... meh.

May 9, 2015 7:22 a.m.

VampireArmy says... #46

The only way you're casting those eldrazi reliably is a control deck with ramp thrown in

May 9, 2015 8:22 a.m.

-Fulcrum says... #47

The only way you're playing those Eldrazi is with Eye of Ugin, Eldrazi Temple, and a decent number of Eldrazi Spawn. I still think it's a viable archetype, but those are the required pulls.

May 9, 2015 1:31 p.m.

Schuesseled says... #48

reprinting All Is Dust as a rare, just let me pick two up for the price of one. Cheers.

May 9, 2015 2:12 p.m.

SimicPower says... #49

Now I just sit back while everyone orders a box, and buy my two singles that I need for a fraction of the price, with a feeling of smug superiority. Or something like that.
