I like him. I like him a lot

2br

legendary enchantment creature- God

indestructibleas long as your devotion to red and black is less than 7, he isn't a creature

at the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, they lose 2 life unless they sac a creature

7/5

ok. what are your thoughts?

So excited about this card. Tribal is coming back to standard with god and demigods bringing the pain. Might have to dust off those Door of Destinies I've bring keeping in my binder.

Rayenous You do realize it's also a 7/5, turn 1 Rakdos Cackler turn 2 Rakdos Shred-Freak turn 3 Minotaur Skullcleaver turn 4 Mogis swing for 13...they're probably dead..

@lookoutimscary

I do realize that... but do you realize that he doesn't have haste? He won't be swinging on T4.

Also... what deck will let you get and keep 7 devotion by the time he could swing on T5?

I just playtested Mogis in the deck I posted, 5 games vs my Naya Monsters. Deck went 0-5 and Mogis landed game 2 and did 6 meaningless damage and game 4 for 2 damage. Very disappointed, maybe I'll try it in Minotaurs

Yeah, so gods and planeswalkers are becoming more and more ridiculous. Soon, games will (1) be all about which player spent $1000 on their deck and (2) take 5 turns and be done based on who got their power play out first.

R.I.P. casual Magic.

Welcome back, Bramblecrush and Fade into Antiquity .

/end rant

thewyzman I do see that trend too. I see a lot of things along the lines of "This won't let me win on turn 2? It's garbage!" I prefer a game that actually lets a strategy play out, not just dropping something stupid with the goal of subverting strategy.

thewyzman just described eternal formats.

FYI: casual magic died back when they made the pro-tour.

With the plethora of removal and burn in standard after BNG's release, I think this guy could do in ways of grixis/Rakdos control decks (preferably grixis). Otherwise, B/R has the best ways of putting him online, I think, with access to guys like Rakdos, Lord of Riots , Boros Reckoner , or Nightveil Specter . So far I think he's the best god released and will have the most impact on standard. Though we're still waiting on Phenax.

Also, I think he'll be viable for EDH as well, but I think Karametra trumps him on that sect..

@thewyzman, re: "Soon, games will (1) be all about which player spent $1000 on their deck and (2) take 5 turns and be done based on who got their power play out first."

Soon?! That's the way Magic has been for the past 10 years. .

Anyway, I've been hearing a lot of buzz about this guy at my LGS. Everyone loves him. I'm not terribly impressed, but maybe that's just because I love Rakdos and Grixis decks, and was hoping for something a little bit better.

I have been getting the feeling that Jund could make a comeback.

Will take seeing the rest of the set to be sure.

@MagnusMTG, True, but when I started up a couple years ago there was more variations in decks, more emphasis on synergies and tribal decks. Now it's just One Deck To Rule Them All, and I think MTG has lost balance and its appeal to beginners and is now just a game for rich kids and pros. Cards are becoming more of individual win-cons instead of cogs of an engine.

Back on local topic though, as a guy who view Rakdos, Lord of Riots as a Desecration Demon with benefits, if I happen to ever draw this god in a pack, I'll be dusting off my Dreadbore and maybe going Jund to splash in some Fade into Antiquity just to give myself a chance at my FNM in a couple weeks (post-release craze).

Anyone else tested him out with proxies?

Honestly I really like this card. Of course he's no win condition but it does put pressure on your opponent. A lot of people are different. If a player has multiple ways of gaining life then they will most likely take the 2 which can slowly widdle them down. Others care more for their creatures and will take the damage. Some will sac their creatures because life is more important. Either way I see Mogis creating openings, nothing more nothing less. I have constructed a Minotaur tribal with him in it. If I play my cards right I have found that by turn 6 or 7 I can swing for about 20 - 30 damage. If Mogis has done his thing, hopefully my opponent wont have enough blockers. Truth is he is very mid-range. Feel free to check out my deck Mogis Minotaur Tribal

I tested Jund featuring this guy and Xenagod (Xenagos, God of Revels ), and even using the best cards to creaturize them (Rubblebelt Raiders and such), they both still rarely became creatures. And it seemed like this guy just wasn't doing as much work as I would like. It takes a long time to make the burn have a factor in the game. I was much more impressed by Xenagod with Savageborn Hydra and Kalonian Hydra . Just my opinio, maybe I just did an awful job making the deck.
