My guesses on the plotline

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

Ok, i know everyone doesnt like eldrazi speculation, but Swilliam and I have a theory that sounds logical.

Here is our theory

we know that cryptoliths channel and distort mana for a purpose (warped landscape flavor text) and in the trailer we see them all in a circle together. that means that they are all channeling their mana, creating a mana confluence. guess what likes lots of mana together? ELDRAZI. We see nahiri in the middle of a circle of cryptoliths (warped landscape art), implying that nahiri is using them. it also says that they channel mana for their purpose. their purpose? summoning emrakul. he/she likes lots of mana, and nahiri is trying to lure him to innistrad. "as zendikar has bled, so will innistrad" said nahiri, implying that she wants innistrad to have to go through the same struggles that zendikar felt. Emrakul distorts living things, explaining the weird distortions in the red vampire's art (extra finger, faces, eyes, and tentacles). It also could be distorting Avacyn to make her evil, or Avacyn is going crazy because she cant understand why people are bieng weird. It could also explain the demented woman in the UR last Wednesday. We also know that Runo Stromkirk worshipped a pre-avacynian god. what if before the tree trapped the eldrazi on zendikar, emrakul had paid a visit to innistrad. keep in mind on zendikar, vampires worshipped the eldrazi. maybe vampires on innistrad did too at some point. basically im saying that maybe emrakul is Runo's god. the reason we have not seen any spawn is because nahiri is only trying to lure emrakul, not his spawn. he may have an Appearance in Eldritch Moon. He may be distorting the moon's effects too. another thing to keep in mind: SOI was originally meant to be with BFZ and OGW in a block, because they were designed before the Two-block paradigm.

Thoughts? Discuss!

I think it's pretty common that everyone thinks Emrakul will re-appear, most likely in Eldritch Moon. Seeing as 2 of the 3 have appeared, I think we should definitely expect to see Emrakul. Question is, how effing broken will he be this time?

Coinman1863 says... #3

Emrakul's a she DrFunk27, at least get it right in or Vorthos thread...

But She'll be broken. They WotC doesn't make her at least as good or near equivalent, People Will be pissed.

Maybe the Gatewatch will be unable to defeat Emrakul and seal it in the moon? Just spitballing here, but since it's a source of power, it could be possible.

Or it could be that the moon is the main source of mana for the plane and its destruction could be disastrous for the plane, hint hint (cough nahiri blows up the moon)

DrFunk27 says... #5

Coinman1863 Seeing as the Eldrazi are cosmic, interplanar beings that dont have gender, I will just call Emrakul "it". It's widely believed it's a female but I've yet to find any substantial proof -- it's all theory.

Anyways, I think it would be cool if Emrakul was sealed into the Moon. Maybe all the bloodshed from Emrakul would turn it into a...Blood Moon. That would be a sweet reprint. lol

Casey4321 says... #6

I must be the only one does NOT want Emrakul in this or the upcoming set! I think Nahiri is trying to pull an Orcarina of Time and pull the moon into Innistrad. I hope she doesn't show up.

Vestige of Emrakul, there it is DrFunk27. Also this article should clear things up.

DrFunk27 says... #8

The text for vestige is clearer than that article. I hadnt seen that! That's kinda cool. Ok, it's a girl. Lol

Atony1400 says... #9

I don't think they want 2 Eldrazi blocks in a row. However, I like your reasoning.

March 8, 2016 6:51 p.m.

Swilliam says... #10

@Atony1400 They don't want two eldrazi blocks in a row, but it what be logical due to the fact it was originally intended to be paired with the Battle for Zendikar Block. It would also be awkward to leave 1 of the three titans out of the story. That would feel incomplete.

Atony1400 says... #11

We will see Emrikul again, but not here. I just think we'll see a new Nahari gone bad, because obviously se destroyed Markov Manor. Anyways, maybe Emrakul will show up on Mirrodin, or Alara.

March 8, 2016 9:42 p.m.

Swilliam says... #12

@Regigigas23 And ooh, Nahiri sealing Emrakul in the moon after she realizes what she's done would be a really interesting take on the story. Well done sir!

March 8, 2016 9:43 p.m.

Swilliam says... #13

@Atony1400 But for what reason would she be constructing these cryptoliths? Or destroying Markov Manor? How is she going to get revenge?

March 8, 2016 9:46 p.m.

Atony1400 says... #14

Messing with the moon, causing "madness" to every creature on Innestrad.

March 8, 2016 9:52 p.m.

CheeseBro says... #15

yeah!

March 8, 2016 9:52 p.m.

Swilliam says... #16

@Atony1400 That would also make sense, but what would she be using all of the mana from the cryptoliths for?

March 8, 2016 10:01 p.m.

Atony1400 says... #17

Maybe she will try to revive Zendikar, or something.

jcofer says... #18

Where does Nicol Bolas fit into all this?

March 9, 2016 9:41 a.m.

OmegaAura113 says... #19

jcofer: If you're guessing that Bolas is in this story based on the one SOI image with his shadow in the background, it's been proved to be false. Still a sick picture though!

Also, if any of you ready today's Magic Story online, apparently the cryptolithes are messing with the angel's heads (Gisela, Avacyn and Bruna) by channeling Nahiri's voice into them, making them realize the humans are really in need of extermination like everything else on the plane. Angels are now the enemies, and maybe the extensive channeled mana somehow summons Emrakul-but right now I'm starting to doubt the Titan shows up at all.

At least it's guaranteed we get new evil angel versions of the three legendary Innistrad sister guardians!

March 9, 2016 5:12 p.m.

Swilliam says... #20

@Regigigas23 I like your theory. We know the moon has something to do with this, so maybe Nahiri has been messing around with the moon. That would cause the angels to go crazy and would explain Jace's investigation of Tamiyo's research.

March 9, 2016 10:30 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #21

I do not wish for any eldrazi to appear in this block; WotC should keep them reserved for later.

Also, we know that Nahiri shall attack Markov manor, but I really hope that WotC does not kill off Edgar Markov in that attack, since that would be a horrible waste of a character who is certain to be very awesome.

Rayenous says... #22

I just read the first line... stopped at "...eldrazi.... sounds logical..."

Anything Eldrazi that someone believes 'sounds logical' at this point, rings in my ears as, "I want Eldrazi... here's my logic...".

I'll read the rest, but want to state this before going on.

March 10, 2016 7:35 a.m.

Swilliam says... #23

@Rayenous. I honestly don't want it to be another eldrazi block. Judging on the lore last night, this theory will most likely be disproven. Theories are meant to be disproven. It just helps create more speculation.

March 10, 2016 10:24 a.m.

Casey4321 says... #24

I'm going to put up a theory. What if Ashiok is behind the scenes doing stuff? The mental stuff doesn't feel like something Nahiri is capable of. Besides this the last time we saw him he was twisting and playing with people's fear and faith.

March 10, 2016 10:43 a.m.

Rayenous says... #25

So... yeah... "guess what likes lots of mana together?"

My guess would have been "Planeswalkers", "Demons", "Wizards", "Elementals" even "Nicol Bolas" before bothering to assume Eldrazi.

"...what if before the tree trapped the eldrazi on zendikar, emrakul had paid a visit to innistrad."

The answer to this 'What if' is "Innistrad would have been devoured."

Also, the being Runo Stormkirk worshiped was a "god of the sea and storms"... this is clearly not Emrakul.

It was not just Vampires on Innistrad that worshiped Eldrazi. Members of almost all races worshiped them as Gods.

March 10, 2016 11:04 a.m.

Swilliam says... #26

@Rayenous Regarding your statement on the congregation of mana, what you say is incorrect. Eldrazi were drawn to the plane of Zendikar because of it's mana. Nahiri may be channeling the mana of Innistrad to draw the attention of Emrakul. Though I now believe our theory to now be incorrect, I still think this was an interesting idea given the information we previously had. The details about the Vampires are not something I came up with. That was all CheeseBro's idea. Please understand that we are just brainstorming, and not determining the entire storyline by what we said.

March 10, 2016 4:14 p.m.

Swilliam says... #27

@Casey4321 That would be interesting, but we can already assume that Jace, Lilliana, Nahiri, and Sorin will be on Innistrad. That may be too many planeswalkers to cram into one block/story. Nahiri also has motive to do whatever she is doing because Sorin did something to her.

March 10, 2016 4:19 p.m.

Casey4321 says... #28

@Swilliam Oh I agree. I just find it weird to see a white stoneshaping mage using mind control. I wouldn't be surprised to find out its not her and it's something else.

March 10, 2016 5:33 p.m.

Swilliam says... #29

@Casey4321 I totally agree. I think Nahiri may be indirectly controlling the angels. Possibly through the use of litheomancy on the physical features of Innistrad (for example, the moon).

March 10, 2016 6:05 p.m.

PistonGolem says... #30

This, sadly, will probably be an eldrazi block. WotC has already been planning this pack before the introduction of the 2-set block system, meaning that this set would have been the third in BFZ, so we are sadly seeing another Eldrazi block that is pushing "Wastes' lives mater"

March 12, 2016 10:15 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #31

If Avacyn dies, who or what shall replace her as the factor that balances humans and whatever threatens them? I doubt that Sorin shall (or even can) create another powerful angel, but, surely, there must be some happy ending to this dark storyline?

What about the werewovles? If Avacyn's blessing upon them is undone, how can they again be "cured" (for those who wish to be "cured")?

March 20, 2016 7:31 p.m.

alcor91 says... #32

well, about the werewolves maybe they can do a great pack guided by Arlinn, which seems to be already leading a pack

about the balancer of the plane there's the possibility, even if slight, that Sorin starts to stay on Innistrad and take this role
