I honestly think it's too much too fast. I play nothing but edh. I love getting the yearly precons. And would enjoy more edh related products but this is a tad overkill

ShutUpMokuba says... #3

My concern is about the quality of all these pre cons. I don't expect them to have good reprints but i would like them to be focused without many subthemes.

Pervavita says... #4

The concept I do like of the couple pre cons per set much like the P.W. decks they do. However having 5 for the first one I think is overkill if they tie too close to what that set is doing. Ravnica I think is one of the few sets that could have supported the 5. I understand they want a big splash for this new concept moving forward I just don't think it's sustainable long term like the Masterpieces only lasted about a year before the new/cool factor wore off and they taxed there creativity for them too much.

I am excited to see the Command Collection as well as the Commander draft set as the supplemental for the year.

Beyond excited for all this. More commanders, more new cards, more deck building opportunities and creative options.

ShutUpMokuba says... #6

Pervavita They really want to ride the wave of the moment.. I honestly think that having the commander set there are at least 2 pre cons that they could have cut out. But if they manage to do a good job they could really make a great profit out of this. I'm not the kind of guy that buys all the pre cons because i need to have the complete collection.. if i find the deck intresting i buy it otherwise i'll save my money for other stuff..

I have mixed feelings: on the one hand commander is the only format I play so 'Yay Commander stuff!'. On the other hand I havent been able to find my wallet since watching the video... pretty sure it ran away and hid somewhere on me.

I'm excited to see what new legend will be brought with these new sets as well as what reprints they have in store. Perhaps bring out so much at one time is a way to reduce value of some higher priced cards by reprinting them more than once in the next year. It will be hard to keep up with the product though so that could be a bad thing.

70+ new legends will definitely bring more diversity to the already diverse format. The 70 alone is just from Legends (which I'm kind of assuming is mostly recreations of alot of the 'Legends' of old), then usually 3 new legends per precon (3×9=27), no telling how many the other sets will bring being commander oriented. Also we have the Return to Theros to consider in the near future. So you can automatically assume there will be 100+ legends to work with in this next year. There'll definitely be alot of brewing going on, that's for sure.

Btw, for anybody wondering, the cards attached to the arts they previewed are SUPER obvious.

The one with Yisan and the beasts is Chord of Calling . Why is it obvious? Because CHORD.

The one with... I think a spirit from Kamigawa TENDING a BLOOM is probably Bloom Tender ... if I had to guess.

Yes!! MOAR FOOD!! Keep feeding me endless EDH nonsense!! Hot takes:

  • They said 2 legendaries per pack in each booster of Commander Legends, smells like the return of the partner mechanic?

  • So they killed brawl decks theme decks, and planeswalker decks in favor of some kind of beginner level commander decks? Seems fine probably. Hopefully they aren't too crappy "to cater to beginners" otherwise it sounds great. More is more.

  • I was one of the people who tried and abandoned an energy edh deck. I started it after Kaladesh released and it was not that great. I was absolutely certain that there would be an energy focused legendary to build with in Aether Revolt, but alas I was forsaken. This new move to build EDH decks for each new set release seems like something that should have been done a long time ago. Major set mechanics should obviously be supported with edh cards, otherwise edh players can't play with as many of the new cards!

It is a lot all at once for those people who like to buy every product.

For me personally, I never buy the precons, I instead buy the few new singles from them that I want.

I am pretty excited for Commander: Legends and "FtV: Green Staples" since I'm a predominately green player. Really hoping for some new foils for my Titania deck. Please give me Three Visits, Constant Mists, and Concordant Crossroads in foil <3

subrosian says... #11

@ZendikariWol Definitely spot on with Chord. I would agree with you on the other art too if not for that pesky "Elf Druid" subtype on Bloom Tender . I'm thinking maybe it's Soul of the Harvest , although if that's the case then I don't understand the apparent reference to Azusa, Lost but Seeking

October 30, 2019 10:21 p.m.

SMASHER101 says... #12

The first card they spoiled the art for I'm guessing is Tooth and Nail . Pretty confidant in this one. I've seen some people say Chord of Calling but that would be my second guess.

October 30, 2019 10:24 p.m.

subrosian says... #13

Actually, Seedborn Muse might be my best guess. It is a Spirit, anyway.

October 30, 2019 10:25 p.m.

shadow63 says... #14

I'm thinking that plant thing might be Avenger of Zendikar

October 31, 2019 3:03 a.m.

I think they are probably releasing too much too quickly but that does not stop me from being excited :)

i don't think the spell can be anything but Chord of Calling

I'm thinking Dryad Arbor / Fertilid / Seedborn Muse for the creature: Probably seedborn muse though as if it is kamigawa themed it is likly to be a spirit, snake or human and well it anit a human! (also i do not think there are any snake applicants)

unfortunately i think it would be difficult to be Avenger of Zendikar not on the plane of zendikar

October 31, 2019 7:07 a.m.

I am one of the people that has been wanting a new Baron Sengir and man its finally happening!

Jeska, Warrior Adept was a pet card of mine back in the day so im curious to see what her Planeswalker form will do and how she came to be that way.

Arcane Signet s for everyone! At least I'm assuming that will be included in almost all of these products. As with all the products that open up past present and future options for characters I am always excited to see who gets a new treatment. I would love if Commander Legends brought us new versions of a few cards from Legends like Sivitri Scarzam (black blue dragons!) or Hazezon Tamar (who I would love to run if he wasn't $$$).

And of course cards for characters that never got a chance like Belbe or Rat.

I feel like the key to cracking this second preview is finding the creature type, as many of you have less directly pointed out.

My guess is... Spirit or Elemental Druid. So what staples fit the bill? Eidolon of Blossoms is the closest I could find. So this is probably a spell.

Cultivate would make sense, Earthcraft would be a groundshaking, though sadly improbable inclusion, Rites of Flourishing is hardly a staple, so I hope that isn't it, but hey- you know WotC.

What else could it- oh! It looks like a spirit from Kamigawa! Kodama's Reach ? Well it's got the same flavor as Cultivate - that is, the land being tended and flourishing at your hand, but Kodama's Reach is tied both to Kamigawa's Spirits AND to the Arcane subtype, which makes reprinting it notably trickier. So that's my vote.

DemonDragonJ says... #18

This is very awesome, but I worry about being overloaded with products, that WotC may be focusing on quantity rather than quality; however, I shall make an effort to remain optimistic about it.

On a more positive note, I am very pleased to learn that there shall be a great number of reprints, since there are many cards that I feel need to be reprinted, and my most desired reprints are Book of Rass , Akroma's Memorial , Vedalken Orrery , Rhystic Study , and Reflecting Pool , but some other reprints that would be nice are Dromar, the Banisher , Undermine , Recoil , Fire Covenant , Fungal Shambler , and Tsabo Tavoc . I am certain that I shall remember more cards as time passes, so I shall mention them, here.

Also, is that a new incarnation of Baron Sengir? Yes, finally! I am certain that many long-time players have been waiting for years for this, and I know that I am one of those players; I have very high expectations for that card, since a character of his iconic status deserves nothing less than the best.

Will Commander Collection replace Signature Spellbook? I certainly hope not, since only two of those have been released thus far, and there are still many more characters who have not yet received their own.

October 31, 2019 8:34 p.m.

CastleSiege says... #19

I don't think anyone here has said it yet, but it's also possible for the spell to be Natural Order . Though I think Chord is a very solid guess.

I think Seedborn Muse is also the best guess for the creature.

October 31, 2019 8:48 p.m.

SMASHER101 says... #20

DemonDragonJ Why are you asking for reprints on cards well under $5? 35 cent cards don't need to be reprinted.

November 1, 2019 9:13 a.m.

shadow63 says... #21

SMASHER101 some of those cards are very difficult to find in good condition and next to impossible to find at an lgs. Plus some of them need new art

November 1, 2019 11:47 a.m.

Ruffigan says... #22

I'm just hoping the reprints and new cards give Pauper EDH some love.

November 1, 2019 9:15 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #23

SMASHER101, shadow63 is correct in that some cards that I wish to see reprinted have never been printed in the new frame style and also need new art, and, to continue that subject, it would be nice to have another reprint of Doubling Season . I know that that card has already been reprinted several times, but anything that reduces its price is good. I also would like to see a reprint of Sol'kanar the Swamp King , since I am certain that he would look awesome in the new frame style.

Again, is Commander Collection replacing Signature Spellbook, or will the two product lines coexist?

November 2, 2019 1:13 a.m.

ShutUpMokuba says... #24

In my opinion they will reprint only cards that are around 10$.. They won't reprint cards like Teferi's Protection and Doubling Season whose price is far above nor cards like Phyrexian Altar that are mostly used to go infinite. The only exception may be Cyclonic Rift

November 2, 2019 4:06 a.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #25

ShutUpMokuba, why would WotC not reprint cards with a value above $10? WotC makes no money off the secondary market, and reprints are needed to keep the cards affordable for the players.

November 2, 2019 9:58 a.m.

ShutUpMokuba says... #26

DemonDragonJ simply because they tend not to do it. They could put a couple of >10$ reprints just to say all the time "hey guys we put X and Y in the set and never forget how good we are!". I'm not saying that what you say on paper is wrong. I'm saying that they could have done that already. So this doesn't mean that they won't in the future. I'm just saying that i feel they won't start now.

November 2, 2019 10:22 a.m.

ZendikariWol says... #27

Well, DemonDragonJ and ShutUpMokuba, one of the demographics the people at WotC have to please is a small group of experienced players: namely, collectors. Collectors don't like expensive reprints. Why? Because it makes their collection less valuable.

The think that pisses collectors off more than anything is "Hey, surprise, here's a 30$ reprint," and suddenly all the time they spent sitting on a card has gone to waste and they've lost between 5 and 25$. However, I don't think that's what's happening here, and I don't think that Wizards is going to cheap out on reprints quite as much as they have in previous years. Why would I say that? Well, think about the nature of the content in the video they made with the Command Zone.

What was discussed in the video? It was all material for next year- pretty far along for next year, too! Why might that be? Well, my hope and my speculation is, it's so that when the collectors come crying "why did a bunch of my cards lose value?" WotC can say, without feeling bad, "we warned you that we were reprinting staples, and you chose not to listen."

That being said, if this is WotC's plan, they're not really in the clear with that excuse, as they're basically "The Boy who Cried 'This Year We're Actually Reprinting Staples!'" at this point. But hey. Maybe this'll be just like every other year. Maybe they won't reprint anything of value, again. Who's to say.

ShutUpMokuba says... #28

ZendikariWol The Staples can be found for a lower price if you really want them and have the patience to look for an occasion. I was able to find for 65$ Phyrexian Arena + Demonic Tutor + Cyclonic Rift + Grave Pact + Black Market + Phyrexian Altar . The fact is that if i wanted a Bitterblossom Tomorrow i would have to pay its full price. If i can wait i could find it for a lower price and i'd have even more chances if i would buy more cards from the same person.

About the Command zone announcement video: I would love to think that you are right. But, first of all, they are most likely to release those reprints in the commander legends set which we don't know when it will be released but it will be in summer/fall probably and i don't know how the market will react to this set. Second point, i don't think that they wanted to "warn" collectors. In my humble opinion they just wanted to say "guys, prepare for new fancy products because we, at Wizard of the cost, really care for you, commander players!!". And they were talking about some Cultivate and Sakura-Tribe Elder stuff. Last point you are probably going to ignore is this: New commanders may require old fancy cards. There will be reprints for sure but with some moderation. And the card that won't be reprinted may very well spike in price.

I see them reprint a Phyrexian Arena because, gameplay-wise, you can have your card draw for one life each turn. I see them reprint a Cyclonic Rift because yeah you can bounce back everything. But i don't see cards like Necropotence , Cabal Coffers and Vampiric Tutor . Why? Because those cards really give you an edge. Sure they could give you in a Commander Pre con a Semi-Competitive EDH deck. They would sell them 10x times they sell normal pre cons and they would not be affected by cards losing value. But they still don't do that. They rather create new cards like K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth so everyone buys the product without the need for reprints.

November 2, 2019 11:34 a.m.

ZendikariWol says... #29

ShutUpMokuba, I have a complicated relationship with that post.

1) Yes, I agree that most of the needed/valuable reprints will be released in Commander Legends. That's just how it be.

2) I don't think they wanted to warn people either. It was less speculation and more wishful thinking.

3) 'last point, you'll probably ignore this one' is a really condescending and just generally not great thing to say to someone.

4) Discounting that, the people at Wizards can only speculate as to which old cards will play well with new cards. I'll trust them to do the best they can, but it's inevitable that some old cards will just synergize and there's little to be done about it.

November 2, 2019 12:10 p.m.

ShutUpMokuba says... #30

ZendikariWol i didn't mean to be rude with 3), i just wanted to point out something you mau have not considered. However i apologyze in case you've felt offended by that part.

About point 4): They know pretty well what they could do. But there is a difference between knowing what would be best for the players and actually doing that. Their main target is to sell as much as they can without breaking the game with ultra powered cards. In MtG there are a lot of ways to balance a card so they have not big difficulties doing that. The fact is that if they put Cyclonic Rift in the new set everyone will be super happy because is a popular card. At my LGS 99% of the people knows that card. But only 60-70% know Necropotence . So, to break the bank they don't necessarily have to reprint expensive cards. They will just reprint a few expensive cards. Which is still good but i don't expect more than one or two reprints like Doubling Season in the entire set at best.

And don't get me wrong, i would love if you told me "i told you so" in a few months because that would mean they actually released good expensive reprints.

November 2, 2019 12:27 p.m.

ZendikariWol says... #31

ShutUpMokuba, I see where you're coming from. I would love the spicy reprints too and I'm kinda just hoping quantity can overcome quality.

November 2, 2019 12:57 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #32

It would be nice if WotC printed another one of the nine titans whom Urza gathered to fight Phryexia, because, thus far, only Freyalise and Lord Windgrace have had black-bordered planeswalker cards; Urza has had two cards, but one is of him before he became a planeswalker and the other is a silver-bordered card.

November 2, 2019 10:56 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #33

Neither Ashnod nor Gix have yet had cards, so I believe that they deserve to have cards in this upcoming set, especially since Tawnos and Xantcha had cards in a previous set.

November 6, 2019 8:19 p.m.

JANKYARD_DOG says... #34

DemonDragonJ dont forget Blind Seer Urza

Belbe also needs a card too, probably others I can't think of right now. Maybe another version of Starke idk. I have a theory that Commander Legends is going to be redux versions of Chronicles/Legends Legendaries mostly, maybe not the dragons though.

November 6, 2019 9:13 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #35

Mj3913, Dromar is the only primordial dragon who has not yet been reprinted, so he is long overdue for a reprint, in my mind.

Also, out of the five muses, Lavaborn Muse and Graveborn Muse have had the least number of reprints, so they definitely deserve additional reprints at some point in the near future, in my mind.

November 6, 2019 9:39 p.m.

ZendikariWol says... #36

News on the speculation as to what that spirit creature is!

Well, it was subtly confirmed by Gavin Verhey that it is a CREATURE card- and was not initially from Kamigawa. That narrows things down.

Looking at the list (it’s not a long one) the card could be one of few things: Eidolon of Blossoms , Verdant Eidolon , or, hopefully, another reprint of Seedborn Muse .

November 7, 2019 10:03 a.m.

Pervavita says... #37

The art avoids the starfield that all Enchantment Creatures have so it can't be Eidolon of Blossoms .

November 7, 2019 10:20 a.m.

ZendikariWol says... #38

Oh yeah, that's fair. So, 98% chance it's another Seedborn Muse reprint.

November 7, 2019 10:36 a.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #39

I think that a reprint of Adun Oakenshield wopuld be nice, since he is one of the better legendary creatures from Legends.

November 7, 2019 9:30 p.m.

Unfortunately Adun Oakenshield is on the reserved list along with most of the decent cards from that set. However, It could be cool to see a new version of those characters on new cards.

November 8, 2019 4:37 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #41

LittleBlueHero, that is very disappointing to learn.

Other cards that could use reprints are Assassin's Trophy , Arcane Signet , and Thought Vessel , because I believe that those cards are more expensive than they should be.

November 12, 2019 10:40 p.m.

Oh I would all but guarantee that arcane signet will show up multiple times next year. Definitely could use more of all three of those cards for sure.

November 14, 2019 12:12 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #43

I would like reprints of both Castigate and Gerrard's Verdict , since those cards have been reprinted as promo cards, but not as "regular" cards.

November 16, 2019 1:21 a.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #44

Another reprint of Legacy Weapon would be very nice, since it has been many years since the previous reprint of that card.

December 14, 2019 2:13 a.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #45

Have I already mentioned Overabundance in this thread? That card should definitely be reprinted, not be cause it expensive, but because it would look great in the new frame style.
