Ok this is awesome, new dual lands. They enter tapped unless you control 2 or more basic lands. Only allied colors so far.

Canopy Vista: plains forest

Cinder Glade: mountain forest

Smoldering Marsh: swamp mountain

Sunken Hollow: island swamp

Prairie Stream: plains island

Sorry no photos, I'm not too code savvy. This is gonna be the best set in a while methinks...

I do like that WotC is now printing enemy-colored counterparts to the "manlands" from the first Zendikar block, but why are they printing only five lands from one cycle and five from another cycle? Why not print ten "manlands" in one set and ten "tangolands" (or whatever name shall be given to the other cycle) in the other set? Why divide the cycle across both sets?

September 7, 2015 9:34 p.m.

I think they did it that way to shake up the dominant archetypes between set releases.

September 7, 2015 10:40 p.m.

something unexpected I noticed, the prices of the Tarkir fetches have all gone up. Now's a good time to sell your excess Windswept Heath, Polluted Delta and Wooded Foothills!

Polluted Delta up to $23!

September 8, 2015 2:32 a.m. Edited.

Boza says... #4

It is in fact the complete opposite - now is the time to stock up on fetches, as they will not fall below $20 in the next 5 years. especially with fetchable lands in Standard, 23 is very low for delta.

September 8, 2015 2:43 a.m.

Boza That's a matter of opinion. For the last few months they've been low, like $15 for Polluted Delta, everyone trying to get playsets now with spoiling of the new fetchable lands. Once excess copies are sold off and people have their playsets the demand will drop along with the price. If I have 7 copies of something, I'm gonna sell the 3 extra copies when everyone is trying to buy them, like you for example, and the price is driven up. Once everyone who's buying them up now, like you, gets their fill the price will drop and hold stable there. But I appreciate your inflating the bubble for people like me!

Please note my post said "excess" copies. I'm not selling my playsets.

September 8, 2015 3:07 a.m.

Boza it's also your financial state and goals. I'd rather sell them now to put the money into new cards. Really wanna get a case for this coming set. I figure there should be one Expedition land per case. Preorder comes to about $95 per box. Hardest part is being able to sell something good to recoup expenses, hard to resist the urge to hoard.

September 8, 2015 3:17 a.m.

Boza says... #7

It is not really how supply and demand works. There will never be a point where everybody has a playset and not everybody will be satisfied with a playset.

If you have 7 copies of a fetch and have 3 EDH decks that can use those, will you not keep the extras? If you think they are going to go for more than they , are you not going to invest in extras? Just by investing in extras, you are helping prices grow (also known as speculation or in extreme cases, buyouts).

As long as there are fetchable lands, fetches are not going down. Once the fetches are out of standard, their price will continue to increase due to lack of supply. In fact, since Khans is not drafted anymore, supply is already more limited.

The lowest point for fetchlands was about 6 months ago. The only direction they are going is up.

September 8, 2015 3:20 a.m.

Boza says... #8

Since I cannot edit anymore - getting sealed product is NOT the way to acquiring MTG value. If you wanted to really get rich with sealed MTG product, invent the time machine and go back 20 years. Or buy said product now, sit on it 5 years and get bad returns on your investment.

I repeat, do not even think of selling valuable singles for the momentary high of opening lots of packs (if you value value)

September 8, 2015 3:29 a.m.

Boza yeah I suppose. It's like gambling...

September 8, 2015 3:40 a.m.

Fricking magic. Modern masters was the worst. And of course one guy pulled a Foil Goyf and a Bitterblossom in one pack so it made you think you could hit a $300 pack for $12.

September 8, 2015 3:44 a.m.

JuicyPVP says... #11

I have 15-20 of each khans fetch, and trade for them every time I can. Polluted Delta and Flooded Strand will be in the $30 range within a year most likely. Also, I use a good 12 of each fetch. I don't know anyone who gets a playset of fetches and then "sells the extras" because what if you want 2 decks? Also, sitting on seald boxes does produce a yeaild IF the set is good. (Original ZEN block, Innistrad, Original Modern Masters) I'm betting khans and bfz will be worth hording. BFZ especially.

September 8, 2015 3:14 p.m.

Damn I gotta start hoarding more then. I'd been switching playsets between sleeves but extras nice for commander. Thanks for advice JuicyPVP. You think the new duals will hold their price?

September 8, 2015 3:56 p.m.

Harashiohorn says... #13

@ Jimmy_Chinchila

Pre-order prices are generally higher by default, and unlike the Fetchlands these will have to actually go out and prove their worth to the eternal formats, where there is a lot of skepticism about their level of usefulness. Give them some time to come out and for the standard players to get their playsets, then the price will drop for at least a while (Assuming you mean The BFZ duals). If you are referring to the Temples, those are sort of hit or miss, a few select color combinations will be valuable, but others will be a lot less valuable, kind of like the discrepancy in Dual-Land prices.

September 8, 2015 4:07 p.m.

Harashiohorn word, makes sense.

September 8, 2015 5:12 p.m.

JuicyPVP says... #15

Harashionhorn is right about the new duals needing to prove themselves. I would think they will be $3-5 2-3 weeks after release just because of how much BFZ will be opened. At $3 id say its safe to trade for them, and even pay cash for them if they are blue. Im guessing they will settle between 5-10$ depending on the colors of them. Pure speculation.

September 8, 2015 5:13 p.m.

Ok nice that sounds like a good plan

September 8, 2015 5:15 p.m.

JuicyPVP says... #17

You have to understand that the prices of good rares from BFZ will be EXTREMELY DEFLATED due to how much BFZ will be opened world wide. An example of this would be Khans' Siege Rhino. Even before reprint in a clash pack, this modern staple, and standard mega-bomb was a crazy, wallet breaking, 8$..... Because there were just so many of them in circulation. The same will hold true for BFZ, but worse. Do not expect to open oodles of value out of boxes after a week from launch, because the insane supply of singles will crush the market.

September 8, 2015 5:27 p.m.

Yeah I heard this is gonna be a higher print run than Khans. It throws you, cuz on the surface it looks like there'll be a lot of valuable cards, but like you said there'll be so many out there. So you think it's smarter to just get my usual booster box and fat pack and fill in with singles over buying a case?

September 8, 2015 6:15 p.m.

JuicyPVP says... #19

Im getting a case, but only because I want my chance at a full art foil acaldung tarn lol. Singles will be cheap a few weeks in. I wont trade many of my singles away from this set. Ill likely keep most of them because I like the way the set looks It appears to have a lot of commander playability and I think in the next few years these cards will be worth more.

September 8, 2015 11:18 p.m.

Rayenous says... #20

So, the question I have now is, what do you think the next 20 cards in Expeditions will be?

My guess...
10 Man-lands (5 new, 5 from original Zendikar)
10 Filter-Lands... or possibly 'fast lands'... or 'check lands'...
But, hopefully Filter-Lands

September 9, 2015 3:31 p.m. Edited.

Named_Tawyny says... #21

If I had to guess, the next 15 (it's a set of 40, I think) cards are going to be

5 Enemy Tangos

5 BFZ man-lands

5 Zendikar man-lands.

September 9, 2015 3:36 p.m.

Rayenous says... #22

It's a set of 45... that's why I was assuming 2x groups of 10.

But, you're right, I forgot the second half of the Tango lands.

So.... 5x Enemy Tango
10x Man-Lands
and hmm.... 5 more of something.

3x Full-Art Tron lands...? (You know you want to see full-art Urza's Tower)
Full-Art Eye of Ugin...?
Full art Temple of The Forsaken Gods (or whatever that new colourless land is called)...?

September 9, 2015 3:55 p.m. Edited.

Named_Tawyny says... #23

Oh wow, you're right. I'm not sure why I got 40 stuck in my head. mea culpa.

If they really want people to go bonkers, they'd do the Gaea's Cradle cycle.

September 9, 2015 4:44 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #24

I doubt that they shall be in this set, but when might either the Innistrad checklands or the Shadowmoor/Eventide filter lands be reprinted? Each of those cycles has been printed only once, compared to the Magic 2010 checklands, which have been printed four times, and the painlands, which have been printed more times than I care to count, which has led to some of them (especially Twilight Mire) becoming ridiculously expensive.

September 9, 2015 9:38 p.m.

readerrw07 says... #25

Oh no! We dont have something better than shocks, fetches, and checks, and fasts for mana fixing in Modern!! Whatever will we do if we cant have more stupidly fast and probably expensive stuff for modern and legacy?!

Personally this can work well for a few standard ideas I have, as well as in basically every EDH deck ever (Since you know, most edh decks runa decent number of basics depending on the number of colors. Most 2 color decks I made run around 20, 3 color decks about 12). Sure they wont be used in Modern or Legacy but come on, those land bases are basically untouchable by now for high tier decks.

September 10, 2015 4:12 a.m.

JuicyPVP says... #26

If they really want people to go bonkers, they'd do the Gaea's Cradle cycle. - This cycle is on the reserved list and will never be reprinted.

September 10, 2015 10:10 a.m.

Boza says... #27

@ JuicyPVPNot all of it, while Serra's Sanctum would have been great for Theros standard, I would love to open an expedition Shivan Gorge. No, wait, scratch that. Disappointed is what I meant. It is a 78 cent card.

September 10, 2015 10:21 a.m.

JuicyPVP says... #28

Im not counting Tower, or Gorge as a part of the cycle, because they don't do what Academy, Cradle, and Sanctum do... I guuueeessss they could be considered the same cycle, but I'm not convinced they are. Anyways, I am betting the future-sight cycle is in Oath's expeditions.

Devonin says... #29

Please "this community" don't try to get on the Tangolands bandwagon!

These are 'slowlands' as being directly contrary to the 'fastlands'

'fastlands' required you to have no more than 2 other land

'slowlands' require you to have no less than 2 other land

I love a good pun as much as the next guy, but we really can't let "Tangolands" try to be the thing!

September 10, 2015 11:32 a.m.

Boza says... #30

teamtango! Woot!

I like charmlands and dualchecks as well.

September 10, 2015 11:39 a.m.

Devonin says... #31

Shocklands, Checklands/Buddylands, Fastlands, Scrylands, Filterlands, Painlands

September 10, 2015 11:43 a.m.

Rayenous says... #32

...but when I play one tapped on T1, I want to say "Tango-go!"

September 10, 2015 12:29 p.m.

I prefer slowlands as well. Anyone see that Expeditions Misty Rainforest? It's purdy.

Yeah people were fine playing a Tarkir wedge land turn 1 but complaining about these, which can actually enter untapped later in the game. Not as fast as shocks but not as slow as wedges so I see no reason these won't see quite a bit of Standard play. Modern, will depend on the deck. If you're already using a spell or ability to put a land into play tapped, might as well be one that provides 2 colors.

September 10, 2015 3:50 p.m.

LiveForChaos I like that!

September 10, 2015 9:50 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #35

Whatever name the player choose to give to these new lands, I wish for five more in Oath of the Gatewatch, since I have a red/white and a red/blue deck that could both use some new dual lands.

Also, I wonder about the prices of these lands as singles: currently, they range from $7 to $9, but might they decrease at all, or shall they remain in that range? If enemy-colored versions are printed, how expensive shall those be?

September 10, 2015 10:04 p.m.

snotice says... #36

DemonDragonJ: the tango lands will vary over the next year and half. It really depends on what colors are used within the 1st couple of months of the new standard and how many of those lands are used within a deck. The fetches will help keep the price of them up, but only time will tell on their price.

September 10, 2015 10:26 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #37

snotice, I hope that they cost less than do the shocklands of the same color combinations.

September 11, 2015 5:24 p.m.

So if you pull an Expeditions tangoland is it Standard playable? Cuz it has a different set symbol

September 11, 2015 5:47 p.m.

snotice says... #39

Jimmy_Chinchila: they are still legal. the symbol is not relevant if it is a reprint. People use cards from 15 years ago in the current standard because why go out and buy something you already own.

September 11, 2015 10:20 p.m.

Correction: Wizards said that if you pull an expedition land it's only legal in limited or wherever that card was previously legal. Of course, just the excitement of pulling an expedition land should be enough.

September 11, 2015 11:23 p.m.

Yeah I'd freak out

September 11, 2015 11:31 p.m.

Devonin says... #42

Yeah so if you pull an Expedition Slowland, it's legal in standard, because the Slowlands are legal in standard.

It is I would say 99.9999% guaranteed that they will print enemy coloured Slowlands in Oath. The 0.0001% saying otherwise is that they did only make 5 Fastlands which these are obviously in opposition to, in SoM, which were also ally coloured, without ever making enemy coloured equivalents.

They -might- be slightly more expensive than shocks while they're in standard, but probably they will just always be cheaper than shocks, because shocks are pretty much entirely superior.

September 13, 2015 8:49 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #43

Devonin, the fact that these new lands are not quite as good as the shocklands does not mean that they are poor in their own right, just as the fact that the shocklands (or any other dual lands) are not as good as the original dual lands (which are unquestionably the best dual lands in the game) does not make them useless themselves, as well.

September 13, 2015 9:25 p.m.

Devonin says... #44

Nobody said they were useless. I said they won't be worth as much as Shocks outside standard, because Shocks are better.

September 13, 2015 9:26 p.m.

JuicyPVP says... #45

Shocks are better because they can always come in untapped if need be, but slowlands are still decent, and should be above $5 each.

September 14, 2015 4:03 p.m.

Now that they've spoiled land-specific landfall bonuses these cards just got better. Guul Draz Overseer gives +1/0 to all creatures for landfall, +2/0 if it's a swamp. Akoum Hellkite deals 1 damage on landfall, 2 if it's a mountain. Granted these both have 6-cmc, if they were both out you'd get both bonuses from Smoldering Marsh. Just a thought.
