new non basic land speculation

I'm a land dork (especially foils) and like to collect a play set of every different non basic. I'm curious if anyone has put thought into what new type of land's we may see or that you would just like to see down the road. I was thinking maybe tri color fetches that cost 2 life or a land that gives you 2 or 3 mana per tap but reads "when xxx enters the battlefield skip your next turn". I'm just having fun brainstorming, any ideas?

I think a full cycle like Horizon Canopy would be pretty cool.

I'm still holding out for the rest of the Nimbus Maze cycle. It's an interesting and functional concept, in my opinion, and it doesn't really threaten to break anything.

What I'd really like to see are more EDH-viable utility landslands with strong abilities that do something other than produce a single mana. I love cards like Vault of the Archangel, Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion, Cabal Coffers, Gaea's Cradle, Phyrexian Tower, Kessig Wolf Run, Cavern of Souls, etc.

I'm not saying WOTC is about to print something like Gaea's Cradle again, but I would like to see something new and useful.

I would like to see more lands like Dryad Arbor or Celestial Colonnade

I would love a complete cycle of Nimbus Maze. That would probably be my first choice for the next set of duals.

I'd like to see a set of lands that work a little like Simian Spirit Guide... example...

Island Spirit Guide (Horrible concoction of a name)
Land - Island

Island Spirit Guide enters the battlefield tapped.

: Add to your mana pool.

Tour - Exile Island Spirit Guide from your hand and pay 1 life. : Add to your mana pool. - You can only use t 1 Tour ability per turn.

It wouldn't be easily broken with the built in restrictions (perhaps there is too many... not sure if paying life and/or being tapped are necessary), but could be used as a small boost in any deck.

Completing the Grove of the Burnwillows cycle comes to mind alongside the Nimbus Maze cycle.

basically anything hinted from future sight would be good! Grove of the Burnwillows to bring down tron sounds like a great idea!

A Grove of the Burnwillows cycle would really boost // Infect.

Honestly, I don't suspect them really making a huge reprint/nonbasic cycle again in KtK block; we got fetches, all 10 Refuges, and Wedge taplands. It's possible that they might do something, and if they do, I suspect that we'd see either a Horizon Canopy fleshed out or Nimbus Maze fleshed out. But, considering that we have Temples, Enemy-Colored painlands, Fetches, Refuges and Wedge Taplands all in these sets, I wouldn't hold your breath for something in Fate Reforged. We might see something in Dragons of Tarkir, but I'm a little hesitant in hoping.

I would love to see a full Dryad Arbor cycle. This way they wouldn't need as many one drops, thus slowing the format down. Also I could see control trying to beat people to death with 1/1 Islands

I feel like man-lands are what I'm most interested in, but I foresee those getting reprints/new prints in whatever we can assume a Return to Zendikar would be called (and again, assuming it's coming up soon here).

Horizon Canopy cycle would be cool though. I love that card and would love even more if I got to play it in a 3-color deck.

Enemy color manlands.

Manlands in general, be they single-colour or multi-colour. Maybe a full Zoetic Cavern cycle, since we're all morphy lately?

I like the Dryad Arbor full cycle idea, I wasn't even aware that card existed. It wouldn't be a game changer by any means but fun/different.

Four more cards like Gaea's Cradle would be great, although I doubt we'd ever see it happen. Something like "tap to add a red mana for every instant in your graveyard", something to correlate with each specific color.

From the post's so far I'm most intrigued by a cycle of card's like Grove of the Burnwillows. It seems like a realistic possibility for a future print and I'd love them.

I'm just hoping the enemy Fetches are reprinted in the third part of the KTK block, I traded away my foil zendikar fetches in anticipation of a reprint.

@vance3 There are two other cards like Gaea's Cradle, but they never finished the cycle. Those cards are Serra's Sanctum and Tolarian Academy.

Already said, but enemy man lands would be cool

November 13, 2014 5:50 p.m.

Actually, Phyrexian Tower and Shivan Gorge were technically the two legendary lands meant to complete the Gaea's Cradle cycle. They didn't have the same ability, but that doesn't mean they weren't part of the 5 card cycle.

lemmingllama says... #20

@CrazyLittleGuy I know that those technically complete the cycle, but since they don't have similar abilities and they don't reference to a specific place, I personally don't consider them part of the cycle. It would be cool if they completed it in a separate set, like a Red storm land (yeah, it would be so broken) and a Black one that added for number of creatures in your graveyard.

Another land idea I would love to see would be one that had "Morbid - adds ". Or a flip land, similar to Scorned Villager  Flip. Finally, a colourless land with "If this land is put into a graveyard from play, return to to the battlefield under it's owners control at the beginning of the next endstep" (this one would also be kinda broken).

River of Tears cycle. I love me some River of Tears

jr92_2000 says... #22

River of Tears is the concept I like least from Future Sight. I've never actually played with it, but it just seems very unreliable/restrictive.

I'd like to see the Nimbus Maze or Horizon Canopy cycle completed first. Grove of the Burnwillows might be too powerful to complete.

Hickorysbane says... #23

I agree with the guy right above, but I still really want them to expand on basically everything from Future Sight, just cause I really liked that concept of planting things for later use

I would love a reprint of man lands but I honestly want to see a new cycle something unique to the block. now here is a really interesting thought. Since time travel is a thing what if suspend was brought back AND there was a suspend land cycle

Forgotten Lands T R or Bsuspend 1

I just want a new set for lands lol

JA14732 says... #25

Suspend tested horribly during Time Spiral block, I doubt it's coming back in force.

dual lands that enter tapped unless you have a basic land type of the same color in the graveyard?

November 14, 2014 2:53 p.m.

tooTimid says... #27

Basic lands are colorless unless it specifically states otherwise, so that wouldn't work shinobigarth. The idea is an interesting one, but it seems underpowered.

November 14, 2014 3:33 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #28

tooTimid i know but what i meant with the sort of simple explanation is: say you play a dual that gives black or red. it comes in tapped unless you have a Swamp or Mountain in the yard (counting subtypes of course so Blood Crypt would work). i was just thinking of land mechanics that might signify time passing.
