New Ultimatums?

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

So, for the unaware, back in Shards of Alara a cycle of rare cards were printed called the Ultimatum. These were:

Cruel Ultimatum

Clarion Ultimatum

Brilliant Ultimatum

Titanic Ultimatum, and

Violent Ultimatum

The cards were basically designed to sum up the shards as best they could. My question is: Can we look forward to another cycle of ultiamatums, and if so, what would you guys like to see on them.

I guess anything is possible, I think it would be cool to see. I'd love to see the Sultai one having to do with drawing, discarding and then reanimating something out of your yard, assuming it follows the same sort of mana costs of the original ultimatums. I think it could look something like this?

Sultai Ultimatum-esque Spell

Draw 3 cards, then discard 3 cards. You may then put target creature card from your graveyard onto the battlefield.

It looks pretty fair and tame for a 7 drop for standard, and I think it would be fun in EDH.

I would like to see a cycle of ultimatums actually, I think that would be pretty cool.

For abzan, I think some sort of counter shenanigans would be nice

Mardu, tokens and haste maybe?

Jeskai countering or burn

Sultai graveyard or -X-X

Temur draw cards or something involving 4 power.

Abzan ultimatum.

Every creature on the battlefield becomes a 4/5 rhino. All of the creatures that are played for the rest of the game are 4/5 rhino creatures. All instants and sorceries that are played lose their written effect and gain 'put a 4/5 rhino token onto the battlefield'.

I call it siege ultimatum

I love it ChiefBell. Can we rename it though from siege ultimatum to "Our New Modern Meta"? =P

ChiefBell I get what you're saying, but do you really think they'd overlook enchantments and artifacts? Seems a little weak to me.

They'll probably realise their mistake and errata that in later.

abzan ultimatum: bolster 3. repeat this process 5 times.

sultai ultimatum: Exile the top 5 cards of your library. you may cast these cards from exile. while these cards are in exile, they have delve. you may exile cards from your opponents graveyard as well as your own for these delve costs.

temur ultimatum: choose the creature with the most power on the field you control. that creature deals damage equal to it's power to target creature. repeat this process for all creatures you control. if creatures share the same power, you may choose which one deals damage first. if at any point your opponent has no creatures, your opponent is dealt damage instead. (sorry super wordy)

mardu ultimatum: put 3 1/1 goblin warriors, 2 3/3 Ogre Warriors, and 1 5/5 demon warrior on the battle field. creatures you control are indestructible until your next combat phase.

Jeskai ultimatum: untap all creatures you control. they gain prowess and haste until end of turn. then reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a noncreature spell. you may cast this spell up to three times without paying it's mana cost.

these are probably incredibly unbalanced. but dammit, they are in flavor.

@ChiefBell Where are the free Lightning Helices? I demand my free Lightning Helix with my 4/5 Rhino token!

Those spells are ridiculous, esp Sultai and Jeskai

I love it when people say "I'm not even going to dignify that with a response". You're giving a response just by saying that! You've already failed in the task of not dignifying it! Thanks to you it now has dignity!

Yay for dignity!

Isn't dragons not going to be a wedge set, so ultimatums are not going to be a thing?

I think so -x-Juuzou-x-x- but its always fun to speculate :)

Uhhh GoofyFoot... those are kind of strong. The Abzan one basically reads "Turn your siege rhino into a 19/20, and win the game", the Sultai one basically says "cast five spells for five mana, and win the game", The Temur one basically says "Hi i'm polukranos's older brother, you can call me Win The-Game", the Mardu one basically says "Perilous Vault or bust", and the Jeskai one basically says "Is monastery Mentor in play? No? You win the game anyway. Yes? You win with style."

Nice try hahaha, but nooooo way are those getting printed.

And, well, -x-Juuzou-x-x-, all we know about Dragons is that it is not going to be heavily allied colors. It was implied that it would be similar to Fate.

I know they are overpowered. I don't work for r&d, my card ideas can be as broken as I want them to be. I wasn't going for balanced, I was going for flavor.

And yay dignity indeed....

awphutt says... #21

In fairness to those cards, you kind of want them to be winning the game when they cost 7 mana of very specific colours...

kyuuri117, yes we know that DoT will be similar to fate, but that doesn't mean that it's not going to be heavily allied colours, unless you've heard some information that I havent. Allied colours would still be similar to fate, there are all the Hybrid abilities. Remember that Khans was similar to fate but the fate cards will work just as well with allied colours. In my opinion, Shards is basically confirmed in DoT, because we know that drafting Khans and DoT together would be an awful experience, and having two coloured clans in DoT would allow them to be played with Khans. The only way I can think of making Khans and DoT be bad to draft together would be to change from wedges to shards
