From Blogatog, Mark Rosewater's Tumblr:
"Ive been getting these two questions about Battle for Zendikar quite a bit, so I think its time I finally answered them.
First, yes, Battle for Zendikar will be the return of full-art lands. Ive seen them and youre all in for a real treat.
Second, Battle for Zendikar does have a cool rare cycle of dual lands, but theyre brand new designs and not the Zendikar fetch lands."
it was just an idea... you can raise the number of cards milled this way to make it rare...

What about exiling x cards? Maybe exile will become relevant with BFZ. Exile interactions could be more interesting with the red exile mechanics in Khans block.

This is never going to happen, but fetchable Grove of the Burnwillows would be pretty sweet.

I had designed some lands like shocklands that replaced paying two life with exiling the top 5 cards of your library, which could be cool in a set like BfZ.

M a g i c a l H a c k e r I could totally see this being a thing especially with the spoiled eldrazi from the duel decks Link

Well i'm grabbing a box or two, in ten years the basic and foil land will probably be of equal value.

Schuesseled says... #8
@suislecalme Those would be really powerful, as you could tap it for colourless play your second island/forest transform it untapped and tap again.

Perhaps it could be
Sample land
: add to your mana pool
: exile ~ and return it to the battlefield flipped, do this only if you control two or more (insert two basic land types here)
(Flip side)
: add (color) or (color) to your mana pool

So...I wonder what the new artwork on the full art lands will look like. I hope the artwork is vibrant and colourful.
August 6, 2015 4:30 p.m.
Schuesseled says... #11
Yes that would be better. (And it would be hilarious with landfall)
August 6, 2015 4:34 p.m.
Double faced lands probably aren't going to happen. They would save that for a set more dedicated to flip cards since print runs of double faced cards cost more.
Maybe we could see something along these lines:
Land Name
: add to your mana pool
: if you control a forest or mountain add or to your mana pool

So a strictly better cycle than the cycle they promised they'd make for Nimbus Maze? Probably not.

If I had to put a buck on what these new dual lands do, I would say they enter tapped and exile the top x cards or player reveals cards until they reveal a land and exile those cards (yea, yea, the wording for that is crap) from target player's library. The new eldrazi ability will probably pull certain cards from exile and put them into play under your control.
I'm also salty that I won't be able to trade my extra set of khan's fetches for reprints of zendikar fetches. Oh well, shit happens.

How about this
~ Island Mountain
When ~ enters the battlefield exile a land card from your graveyard. If you dont, sacrifice ~?
Interacts with that new Eldrazi, tones down delve a little bit and works well with fetches
August 7, 2015 9:51 a.m. Edited.
I don't think the new lands will have the 2 basic land types like shocks.

Just saying smackjack, that would basically bring ABUR duals to modern and standard. Ew. Nah, it'll either be enemy manlands, or something entirely new.
August 7, 2015 10:26 a.m.
MagicalHacker says... #25
Am I weird for not liking mainlands that much?
I hope it's not enemy mainlands.
August 7, 2015 10:31 a.m.
JexInfinite He did mention that they will be of a brand new design. This suggests that it will NOT be enemy manlands. I would expect it will be something with exiling from top of library due to the new eldrazi.

SomethingRandom says... #27
What if it's something like:
~ Land - Island Mountain
As ~ enters the battlefield, you may exile another land you control. If you don't, ~ enters the battlefield tapped.
So you can still get it with fetches, but it would enter tapped unless you put yourself behind in lands, and exiling lands works with the Eldrazi dude like everyone has been saying.
August 7, 2015 10:38 a.m.
What about:
~ Land - Island Mountain
T: add (1) to your mana poolLandfall - If a land entered the BF this turn, add (U) or (R) instead.
Probably terrible but a possibility.
August 7, 2015 10:44 a.m.
Or it maybe
~ Land - Island Mountain
T: Exile the top ~4 cards from your library, add (U) or (R) to your mana pool.
Some synergy with the new eldrazi, fetchable, not super broken. Might be too good in Modern/Legacy so maybe top 6 or 10?
Thoughts?
August 7, 2015 10:47 a.m.
Shoeshank: that would greatly benefit Brainstorm and Jace, the Mind Sculptor :).

more full art great!
no fetches not great but, did you really think wotc would put all 10 fetches in standard....Be realistic people.Just because there not in bfz they could be in commander 2015 the commanders are enemy colored, which would give them much more value.
August 7, 2015 12:24 p.m.
I feel the need to say that putting a fetch in each C15 deck, while not very likely is not out of the question.
People saying that they won't because LGSs would jack the prices up seem to be forgetting that these Commander decks are available at walmart and target. LGS owners would not be able to inflate prices too much because they wouldn't sell them with the "normal" retailers having them at MSRP.
I don't think that WotC would put such powerful cards in a commander series but just food for thought
August 7, 2015 12:49 p.m.
These normal retailers also get in like 1 case every month, so if your not there when they first go on the shelves then the popular ones will always be taken. They've been available at big box retailers before and it's never prevented LGS's from inflating the price above MSRP before, I doubt it would be any different this time around. However I find it highly unlikely that they will put the fetches in the C15 decks since most of them are priced as much if not more than MSRP for the commander products.
Even if they did include them we'd just end up with people crying that the C15 products are being sold for $75+ and the only valuable card is the fetch inside. People won't be pleased, regardless of what happens.
August 7, 2015 1:03 p.m.
Guys There was also news release about enemy colored commander decks coming out, Fetchlands might see a reprint there too! Just imagine how great the price for the lands will be, they could drop under 20$ in no time!

As someone who doesn't play standard, could someone explain to me what the problem would be with having all ten fetchlands in standard at the same time?
August 7, 2015 1:50 p.m.
Named_Tawyny says... #36
Just to point out to people - "brand new designs" doesn't necessarily mean brand new mechanics. Anything that isn't a reprint is, by definition, a new design.
Although, been thinking on how to do duals differently. How about modal duals? First time you tap them for mana, you choose one of the modes, and then they have that mode until they leave the battlefield.
August 7, 2015 1:56 p.m.
SimicPower says... #37
Named_Tawyny: Basically the fetchlands without being able to fetch other dual lands. I like it.
You could also make the color selection happen as an ETB, or only happen if you choose to not ETB tapped (like the shocklands).
August 7, 2015 2:03 p.m.
Named_Tawyny says... #38
SimicPower, doing them as ETB effects makes it easier to understand, but letting them mode on first tap makes them slightly more powerful. I could see either.
I do like your idea of "choose one or both modes. If you choose both modes CARDNAME ETB tapped". Probably a control player fantasy though.
August 7, 2015 2:15 p.m.
army88strong says... #39
SimicPower- The problem with having all 10 fetches in standard at the same time is that it creates a large barrier of entry for newer players. It becomes to pricy to make a deck as it is expected that you need fetches in the deck in order to do well. Also, if Wizards puts all 10 fetches in standard at the same time, when one the allied fetches rotate out, the would have to make another/return an older land mechanic in order for standard to have a diversified land base. By staggering the availability of specifically fetch lands, it allows Wizards to reserve the usage of newer/older land mechanics while still being able to have a diversified and relatively friendly mana base.

Rasta_Viking29 says... #40
The main issue with 10 fetches in Standard is the poor mana fixing they provide. The meta needs true dual lands to promote diversity.
August 7, 2015 2:25 p.m.
JohnnyBaggins says... #41
Shoeshank - Both not the case.
Cards that have Island printed on them have the ability T: Add to your mana pool.. The same is true for Forests and and so on...
So no, no fancy "Tap and do X", it will be anything with how it comes into play and so on. I'm actually a little excited for what they have in store.
August 7, 2015 4:09 p.m.
MagicalHacker says... #42
Or it could be a trigger when the land taps, a la City of Brass.

I vote for tutor lands
example:
Catacombs of Growth
Catacombs of Growth enters the battlefield tapped.
When Catacombs of Growth enters the Battlefield, you may search your library for a forest or a swamp. Put that card in your hand. If you do, shuffle your library.
Tap: Add or to your mana pool
August 7, 2015 5:13 p.m.
Serendipitous_Hummingbird that actually sounds quite cool :)
August 7, 2015 5:17 p.m.
Serendipitous_Hummingbird that is pretty cool but OP in my opinion. A land that gaurantees you hit a land drop the following turn is pretty busted. Not to mention with that wording you could fetch a shockland.
That's terrifying.
August 7, 2015 5:22 p.m.
Now if you change that to basic "land type here" it would still be pretty powerful.
Aggro deck with opening hand of 2 lands a bunch of gas and one of those lands is your land. I'll keep that all day long whereas before it would have at least depended on what else was in my hand
August 7, 2015 5:24 p.m.
Serendipitous_Hummingbird says... #48
Bellock86 I like that wording. Much better. And I think the tapped clause would work well to slow down aggro decks that will keep a 1 land hand. A T2 goblin guide is much less frightening than a T1 guide.
And yeah now that I think about 5c tribal zoo, the basic clause seems pretty necessary here.

Serendipitous_Hummingbird what if it tutored to the top of the library instead hand. A land that cantrips is busted.

@Chandrian
Those aren't really rare worthy lands though, I suppose milling the opponent one card is nice, but I don't really think that its more than an uncommon really.
