So Oath of the Gatewatch is supposed to have 20 more expeditions different than the ones in BFZ. What lands do you guys think will be printed as these expeditions?
i think it will be filters and checks. i doubt they would do manlands...
November 17, 2015 4:14 p.m.
I feel like there's a bigger precedant for the man-lands and filter lands then the checks, since the checks are so readily available and the checks wouldn't really drive much in the way of sales as the fetches and shocks did.
November 17, 2015 4:24 p.m.
I guess it's also pretty reasonable to guess that we'll get the enemy checks in SoI in the spring as well, as much as that would effect what they choose to put in for the expeditions.

PLEASE FILTER LANDS (Flooded Grove) AND ANOTHER RUN OF THE FETCHES (Scalding Tarn)
THEY'RE TOO EXPENSIVE
FLOOD THE MARKET WITH FETCHES
November 17, 2015 4:27 p.m.
I think they should do the filter lands too, but I'm not sure about the other 10. It seems like doing checks wouldn't be likely cause they aren't worth very much. greyninja, they did fetches in BFZ so they aren't gonna do them again lol.
Best case is we get original dual land expeditions (Tundra), but that's near impossible.

My money is on Filters and Manlands to drive sales of the set. Everyone will be clamoring for those foil full-art Flooded Groves and Celestial Colonnades.
November 17, 2015 5:12 p.m.
How many were in BFZ's Expedition sets?
I am hoping for these:
5x Fastlands
10x Filterlands
5x Manlands
5x Tangos
November 17, 2015 9:54 p.m.
kengiczar, there will only be 20 expeditions in Oath
November 17, 2015 11:13 p.m.
I would expect the 5 remaining Tango... possibly the 10 Mana-lands, or some other cycle of 10.
But that only leaves 5 remaining.
I can't think of a set of 5 worthy of being 'Expeditions'.
They would need to be (or at least some of a set) played in multiple formats.
They would need to be Rare, or at least not printed in quite some time and no expectations of seeing a print run soon.
One thought I had was the 3x Urza's, Blinkmoth Nexus and Inkmoth Nexus...
or Perhaps 3x Urza's, Forbidden Orchard and City of Brass.
or maybe no Urza's, and there are 5 other 1-ofd's.
... any other thought on what it could be for 5 land? Is there a cycle of 5 I am missing... Not Vivid's as they are not used in enough constructed play, and are not Rare enough.
November 18, 2015 9:57 a.m.
Looking at the new <> mana symbol... perhaps they'll have a cycle of 5 'Wasted' lands that produce a color and/or a <>.
November 18, 2015 12:09 p.m.
Perhaps they will have 'Waste' lands as a fetch with the other 5 colors ( <>w; <>u; <>b; <>r; <>g) with sac. and pay one life. They could also introduce <> plus other 5 colors in shock and/or tango. Leaving 5 to 10 slots for others variations of other dual lands.
Depending on the validity of the spoilers.

I am still maintaining my belief that there shall be five enemy-colored "battle lands" to accompany the allied-colored ones. If only there were another twenty-five lands remaining, I would guess that there would be all ten filter lands (Graven Cairns and its kin) and "check lands" (Glacial Fortress and so forth), but, since there are not, perhaps there shall be the ten filter lands and then five lands that can either produce all five colors of mana or can produce massive amounts of colorless mana, such as Ancient Tomb.

What if Wizards makes Expedition basic lands? Outside of fetches I think basics are the only lands played in every format. They won't be worth as much but it will still sell the set.

If I was to guess though it would be filter lands, 5 more tangolands if they do anymore, otherwise fastlands or manlands and urza's legendary lands. Tolarian Academy Gaea's Cradle etc
November 19, 2015 7 p.m.
DemonDragonJ says... #19
Schuesseled, that would be great, except that that cycle of lands is on the reserved list, likely because they are too powerful to ever reprint in physical form.

DemonDragonJ the reserved list has nothing to do with power. It's about collectability and maintaining value for investors (and is widely regarded as a huge mistake, but a mistake that isn't going to be reversed)
November 20, 2015 7:23 a.m.
So you think they may print Full-Art Foil Basic land in the expedition slots..? I hope not, I already have a bunch of those. I would hate to open one and think, "Oh yay! A $8-10 card is taking the slot where a $100+ card should be."
November 20, 2015 7:36 a.m.
Gorgosaurusrex says... #24
It's just a theory, and one that I haven't seen anyone else suggest. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Wizards printed expedition basics (though I would be disappointed).
November 20, 2015 11:58 a.m.
Guru lands go for $100+ so expedition basics could fetch maybe $50. They're less useless than Tango expeditions.
November 20, 2015 12:43 p.m.
How would expedition basics be different than just a foil BFZ basic?
November 20, 2015 12:53 p.m.
They'd have the different background, like all expeditions....
November 20, 2015 1:47 p.m.
Yes but that seems like a big waste to me when they already have full art foil basics.
November 20, 2015 2:19 p.m.
LOL HOW ABOUT THE Adventurers' Guildhouse CYCLE?????
November 20, 2015 6:16 p.m.
ToolmasterOfBrainerd says... #31
I am pretty sure that 15 of the 20 will be the 10 manlands and the 5 enemy battlelands. They won't do the checklands because of price and although the filters could be well sought-after, they're not very zendikary.
For the final 5, it's hard to tell. Perhaps the fast lands, perhaps some sick full-art basics, I doubt the urza cycle or anything else like that.
Or what if it's the ABUR lands?!?!?!?!
November 21, 2015 6:54 p.m.
Serendipitous_Hummingbird says... #32
probably 10 checklands and 10 filterlands
November 21, 2015 10:41 p.m.
ToolmasterOfBrainerd says... #33
There will definitely be the enemy 5 battle lands.
But the checklands are generally dirt cheap. The ally colored ones had 4 printings, so they're less than a couple dollars each, and the enemy's had one printing, and the most expensive is Sulfur Falls, which is still not that much. Some of the manlands are in very low demand too, but that's true of the filters as well. Really only the fetches and shocks are valuable in every color pairing. But the checklands have very little demand, so they wouldn't drive the prices up at all.

So I read something interesting recently. Or rather, someone else's interesting speculation.
Their idea was that with the new Wastes and Kozilek leak with the new diamond mana symbol, what if the expeditions are the 5 enemy battle lands (assuming they're printed) along with 15 colorless lands. It's been suggested in this thread already several times, but I feel compelled to bring up their reasoning, which was interesting.
They believe (as I do, now) that the new Wastes and diamond mana symbol are the symbol to produce colorless mana. Because the mana in casting costs is generic mana, not necessarily colorless mana, the new diamond mana symbol could be replacing the symbols in colorless lands, such as Tectonic Edge or Urza's Tower, to say that they're adding colorless mana to the mana pool. Then in mana costs, the diamond cost symbol can only be payed by colorless mana, not necessarily generic mana.
So how does this relate to Expeditions? Then the 15 non-battleland (or all 20, potentially) expeditions could be iconic colorless lands in full-art form with the new diamond symbol. Things like the Urza lands, Ghost Quarter, Tec Edge, Blinkmoth Nexus, Inkmoth Nexus, Mutavault, Cavern of Souls, etc. Just the most popular (and sought after) colorless utility lands that people will be happy to get as an expedition. With most of the rare cycles of dual lands, there are almost always some color pairs that no one wants, so by turning to colorless utility lands, we get a lot of great expeditions.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd, would not giving colorless mana its own symbol be treating it almost as if it were a color on its own? How is that any different from making a sixth color?
November 22, 2015 9:22 p.m.
ToolmasterOfBrainerd says... #36
Difficult to say. Hmmmm. Now that I think about functionally how that would work, it would basically be a 6th color by having casting cost requirements. If Wastes is the basic land, and colorless is the mana color, then I guess by what I detailed above it is just a 6th color for colorless, which doesn't seem quite what they'd do. I'll have to think about that for awhile.
But 15 colorless expeditions still seems like a possibility.

No clamoring for a Blackcleave Cliffs reprint? Hmm...
Seriously tho, how have Scarlands not been mentioned here?

TheAnnihilator for the same reason that Grove of the Burnwillows hasn't been mentioned. We all hate non-fetchable ABUR duals

They could do the Future Sight 5 though, that would be some good value.

Harashiohorn screw the future sight 5. I'm still waiting for the enemy colors.
November 30, 2015 12:15 p.m.
DemonDragonJ says... #41
Harashiohorn: I would very much like to see a full ten-card cycle based off Nimbus Maze, because I believe that that card has the most potential for a full cycle out of all the Future Sight dual lands, after Graven Cairns.
lemmingllama says... #2
I'm personally guessing that either the filterlands (Graven Cairns) or the checklands (Dragonskull Summit) will be used.
The other ten will likely be the ten manlands of Zendikar.
