I can easily see this guy seeing play in Gifts Control. Get him out and Path to Exile all day.

To be fair, the other thread deals specifically with Legacy reanimator.
It's pretty brutal, though. Definitely an EDH staple.

Oh, I totally agree. My new favorite Black commander, bumping Sheoldred, Whispering One down. This thing is an EDH Powerhouse.

I'm curious... if combined with Aven Mindcensor , do they still take the 10 damage? - My instinct is to think "No, because they aren't searching their library... they are only searching the top four cards".
But then I read the rulings for Aven Mindcensor .... and Panglacial Wurm can still be cast if it is in the top four, so it must still count a "searching the library".

I can see Gifts Control too... sure there ARE better targets, but that doesn't mean we can't be a little sadistic.

This guy will be a hyper-bomb in limited, just for those keywords and that last ability...
I honestly wouldn't even take one of the souls over Nixilis, just in case they were in the same pack.

I would think Ob Nixilis would still trigger. Your opponent searches the top 4 cards of his or her library, which is still part of the library.
But I can't find any real rules to back that up or disprove it.

The ruling on the gatherer page says the search is like a normal one except within the top four cards of the library.

If you're referring to searching for X lands, no. It triggers only for each instance of searching a library. It says right on Scapeshift that you "search your library" for X cards, not "search your library X times".

Rayenous The number of cards you search through doesn't matter. Top 4, Top 6, Top 59, as long they are in your library, His ability will trigger.
On another note, it's not safe anymore to search your library when someone have 6 Shadowborn Apostle and a black mana in play.

I see so much potentia, May or may not go in tier 1 decks but the shenanigans.... The trick is getting him into play. Goryo's Vengeance , Through the Breach etc.. And then for the hell of it to finish them off Path to Exile or Ghost Quarter etc...

WovenNebula Yes it works. The fetch lands' ability uses the stack, so if you cast Goryo's Vengeance in response while it's on the stack, Goryo's Vengeance will result first and return Ob Nixilis to the battlefield before the Fetch Land's ability resolve.

Boldwyr Heavyweights and Weird Harvest won't work as they are ''May'' abilities. The opponent may just choose to not search his library. Fertilid works however.

On the other hand, Boldwyr Heavyweights is extremely powerful if they aren't getting a creature.

I know this is a little off topic but i kinda want some more lore with him now he has an extra card and has obviously had an upgrade i mean we know he lost his spark because of Zedikars weird mana flow but there's almost nothing else about him if i remember correctly and now he has 2 cards.

If Ghost Quarter or something similar is reprinted, that could be brutal for standard. Like metagame breakingly brutal. You would have to counter him to keep that from happening.

Ghost Quarter and Path to Exile don't really combo with this guy at all. Only an idiot would do the search with him out, since it's a may, and they decide upon resolution if you try to Goryo's Vengeance in response to one being played, so again, it's not really great. With fetches however, it would be pretty neat if not highly niche. There are better ways to enhance GQ and PtE, like Aven Mindcensor , Leonin Arbiter , or even Archive Trap . All of which cost a lot less than Ob and come out a lot earlier, making them way more backbreaking. If you have a setup to put Ob to work it's total win-more.
Birthing Pod mirrors are definitely going to see this card though, I agree.
