Official Spoiler Thread.

Have at it.

IvoryFrost - I mean...they could, but it wouldn't make sense flavorfully. Blinkmoths, and therefore Inkmoths, can only be found on Mirrodin. So if there was a Zendikari themed Inkmoth Nexus then it would imply that the phyrexian oil can be found there.

Cradle is on the that cancerous reserved list unfortunately. But yeah, Wasteland and Cavern reprints would be amazing.

Wasteland would certainly lead to quite a few more opened boxes, how much would that go for? $400?

Depends on how the artwork looks...maybe?

It would probably be around the same price as the judge foils, maybe less since more will exist.

If you're extremely lucky to draft Ancient Tomb; you'll be in good shape

December 13, 2015 2:31 p.m.

If I draft Ancient Tomb, I don't think I'd play it. Risking damaging it by playing it in the UltraPros that I draft with is not worth it. If I draft an Ancient Tomb, I honestly wouldn't care if I go 0-4. My night has already been a success.

December 13, 2015 2:37 p.m.

Ashockfan says... #11

It'd be awesome to see a wasteland... Because it'd be terrible in draft lol. Would be awesome to see them go 13th at pro tour tables

December 13, 2015 2:43 p.m.

GreenGhost says... #12

Honestly I would play Ancient Tomb. With all of the mana rocks in the set I think it would be entirely reasonable to assume that a two mana rock would exist in OGW. With ancient tomb, a mana rock, a basic land and a four drop you could play the four drop on turn two by only taking 4 damage. I'd call that a good deal.

December 13, 2015 3:43 p.m.

Ashockfan says... #16

I honestly would love if they reprinted fast lands. That way there would be all the great shenanigans of fetching for fast lands early on and then slow lands later, or on turn one going for a tapped one, etc. it would be really cool, and those lands are never very expensive...

I also need them for modern and too cheap to buy them

December 13, 2015 3:45 p.m.

PartyJ says... #17

A question about the expeditions already spoiled. I see they have their own numbering that goes to 45. How do you obtain these? As it seems they have their own set or something?

How can you obtain or try to obtain them? Are they in special packs or are they in boosterboxes as well? What are the best odds to find some?

December 13, 2015 3:45 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #18

PartyJ - 1-25 were the BFZ Expeditions, and you can find them in packs of BFZ. 26-45 are the OGW Expeditions, and you can find the in packs of Oath of the Gatewatch.

December 13, 2015 3:48 p.m.

kengiczar says... #19

The special versions in the set of 45 come from buying Battle for Zendkar booster packs. This is true of any BFZ Booster pack regardless of what else it's packaged with.

Take note that BFZ only has half of the special set.

The other half of the 45 that hasn't been released yet will be in Oath of the Gatewatch booster packs.

December 13, 2015 3:49 p.m.

PartyJ you get them out of regular boosters (or I guess buy them online). they're randomly inserted in packs at a rate of (I think) one every six or seven boxes.

December 13, 2015 3:49 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #21

Peeps, hope you all realize since OGW won't be as opened as much as BFZ, that the expeditions for these are going to be extremely pricey.

December 13, 2015 4:18 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #22

Also, IvoryFrost, thank you very much for the high quality images. The larger the better!

December 13, 2015 4:19 p.m.

But there are only 20 expeditions instead of 25, so if oath is opened 80% as much as BFZ, there will be the same amount of each expedition. Although it's unlikely it'll be opened 80% as much because a lot of people opened BFZ.

December 13, 2015 4:25 p.m.

wwhitegoldd says... #24

Why the hell won't oath get opened as much as BFZ? The only thing that was worth opening in BFZ was the expeditions and I have a sneaking suspicion oath will be no different. It will be opened to hell and back just for the expeditions. Just like BFZ.

December 13, 2015 4:26 p.m.

Ashockfan says... #25

Yea it'll be opened just as much. Also this surge ability isn't an absolute flop like devoid and ingest (and rally) were, so there might actually be some incredible cards!

Crush of tenticles is a bomb for sure, gonna be a standard staple and modern playable.

December 13, 2015 4:31 p.m.

mtgThaen says... #26

Maybe in a standard control deck. I'm not sold on modern playability, at least in top tier decks. Jank? Sure.

December 13, 2015 4:40 p.m.

I don't see Crush of Tentacles as modern playable at all. Perhaps some jank control brews, but nothing remotely close to tier 1.

Crush will be a commander card for sure though. I just want a broken surge cantrip at common or uncommon that's on the Gitaxian Probe scale of power, not Treasure Cruise. Something that'll be a modern staple, but not get banned. And at common or uncommon so I can afford it :)

IvoryFrost says... #28

what I want is the surge version of Monastery Swiftspear.

I'm going to miss swiftspear when she rotates :(

RubyRobin says... #29

I wonder how Mirrorpool is going to tie in with the story - as the only other mythic lands I can think of are Maze's End and Eye of Ugin - both very relevant to their stories! (excluding From the Vault: Realms and Expeditions of course)

Are we going to get some crazy "Let's fight Kozilek with a mirrored Kozilek" or something? Either that or perhaps it's like the Eldrazi's entry point to the plane maybe (the Gate that the title is referring to)? I'm not really sure where it's going to come in - it hasn't been hinted at at all really.

December 13, 2015 6:01 p.m.

Ashockfan says... #30

ToolmasterOfBrainerd

I don't think we're gonna agree on this, but I really think crush is gonna be a limited bomb, standard staple, and modern playable.

It might be a bit expensive, but it fits right in the styles of many of the value decks. Wipe board, get value, present another must kill threat. It's also yet another wincon for amulet, probably a 3 of in the board for the affinity and zoo matchups.

As a whole I think people enjoy putting the new cards down as underpowered, but they still make their way to great even if people don't think so at first. I could name examples but there's too many

December 13, 2015 6:19 p.m.

Named_Tawyny says... #31

@abenz419, Malvion, it goes even beyond that, really. Originally, Sol Ring DIDN'T have the same symbol for the mana that it produced vs the mana needed to produce it. was only for costs in Alpha.

Really, this is just correcting a correction that they did; other than the look of the symbol itself, this is absolutely nothing new.

December 13, 2015 6:33 p.m.

I see your point. I don't know Bloom Titan enough to say whether it will fit in or not, but that's the only possibility for it in modern. Limited bomb? Heck yeah! Standard playable? I have no idea because I don't play enough standard. Commander staple? I could see it. But modern? Ehhh, not really.

It's minimum 5 mana, and that's when you have already cast another spell. Bloom Titan and Storm can cast this, and Bloom Titan might actually want it (storm is too fringe to matter in this case), but I'm not even sure if Bloom Titan wants it that badly.

No aggro deck will want this, obviously. Because it's a blue card, only midrange and control decks will actually want to play this, and since almost all midrange is BGW or BGR, they can't play this either. So it's a blue control deck or Grixis Midrange. This does not fit Grixis Midrange's game plan at all. Now I have to re-flip Jace? And re-cast Lili? And re-delve for Tasigur? Yeah **** that. So it can only really be played in control. And there it's just a win-more card. It's a sorcery, so you're tapping out on your turn (not good in control) to accomplish what exactly? If you make it to turn 6 (1 to cast a 1 mana spell + 5 for surge cost) you are already on your way to win, and this won't help you enough to justify inclusion. If control really needs a reset, they'd play Supreme Verdict instead because it can be cast 2 turns earlier. The problem is that this card doesn't do anything that any deck in modern really needs, and it's not powerful enough to warrant its own archetype.

Also, although Gitaxian Probe and Manamorphose allow a turn 5 surge, neither of those are played in control and that requires actually drawing one of those as well. It's not consistent enough or good enough to make it worth it.

December 13, 2015 6:55 p.m.

Ashockfan says... #33

I understand your point about the colors, but I disagree with the grixis nofit. The whole point of grixis decks is value. You want your entire deck to be 2 for 1s or better, including your creatures. Tasigur gets a lot more value than a normal creature. Lili gets a lot more advantage than most walkers. So wiping the board and dropping an 8/8 for 5 is great when the card you're getting back will generate more value than theirs. You stop the assault from midrange decks that want to beat your skull in, allowing you to reset with a huge must kill octopus

December 13, 2015 7:39 p.m.

I wouldn't say grixis is completely value. Grixis Midrange is just as much board presence as value. Yes, you get a 8/8 octopus, but at the cost of having to re-delve for your creatures and re-flip Jace (which is difficult if you also have to re-delve your grave away). It will almost always create a bigger tempo loss for the Grixis player and an 8/8 octopus is big, but fragile. In the matchups where you get to cast it, your opponent is very likely to have an answer to it. I can see many games where you die on turn 4 holding this card that you never got to cast because it was just too big and dumb. And what about against other midrange decks? Because grixis takes the most time to make board presence, the tempo loss makes the 8/8 probably not worth it. So I don't even see it as a sideboard option. I'd rather play something like Painful Truths against other midrange decks because it builds tons of card advantage for much less mana.

New Chandra is trying to make a Big Red happen, unlikely as it will be. Not sure where she'd fit in, maybe Mardu Planeswalkers?

A new 3 CMC Nissa is interesting. Making an 0/1 plant isn't great, but putting a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control can be pretty sweet. The -7 is interesting, and definitely helps refuel the green deck and keeps them alive.
