Official Spoiler Thread.
Have at it.
I understand all of your points, but I think you are looking at the worst case scenarios, when everything will line up incorrectly. When this card works, it will work. It will buy you an entire turn and put out the 8/8 which must be answered. You will usually bounce less stuff then your opponent, and it will set them back much farther.
Against faster decks, if you live to this point, this affect just wins you the game. Against creature midrange, setting back their fatties and walkers is definitely worth returning a tasigur and maybe 1 other thing. Heck its an upgrade because you get the 8/8. Even in mirrors or control matchups its a useful card when you're behind. If they have plenty of walkers or other permanents set up, you can set them back which can allow you to catch up.
Overall It might not be great in modern, but its definitely a reasonable option in more than one deck.
And going back to bloom it's either another maindeck wincon, or for sure a 3 of sideboard card to basically replace Prime Time against affinity. Think about it. turn 1 amulet for you, they play their whole hand. turn 2 you bloom into crush of tentacles, force them to pick their permanents back up while adding the 8/8. they have to spend their turn two replaying their permanents, and their deck literally cannot answer the 8/8. Then the next turn you farseek or whatever into some land that gives trample, lets say Kessig Wolf Run, and attack. No way they can race you, especially if you have any other relevant spell.

rough translation for the card with the sea gate image on it (if anyone speaks french please correct me)
title: ruins(rubble?) of the sea gate
tap: add one <> to your mana pool
2<>, tap: draw a card, activate this ability if you have no cards in hand(?)

Calm yourself, only 18 cards from OGW have been spoiled so far.
December 13, 2015 9:12 p.m.
the above was to ToolmasterOfBrainerd
HOLY **** THOSE CARDS ARE INSANE
the RW manland looks like a 2/1 double striker for 4, so thats a bit underwhelming.
Koz return is ridiculus.... with world breaker a RG Drazi deck is gonna be all over the format.
Nissa is meh, maybe sb in abzan...but OMG THE CHANDRA YAAAAAS They finally made a competitive card for my favorite walker! her +1 is absolutely insane. :D
Also... that sphinx is a HUGE mistake. Perfect card for control and midrange. Huge hexprook flier that cant be interacted with at all, and makes everything else uncounterable?!?!? Wtf?!
December 13, 2015 9:12 p.m.
ToolmasterOfBrainerd says... #9
I translated the uncommon dual lands. They're just uncommon ETB tapped add x or y to mana pool. Strictly worse guildgates by the looks of it at uncommon. Oh well, but EXPEDITIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So will anyone translate every foreign card that hasn't been translated yet please? Interested on what some of the lands do.
December 13, 2015 9:17 p.m.
AgentGreen says... #12
Nissa is absolutely huge
G/B sacrifice; so cards like Voracious Null, Vampiric Rites, and Smothering Abomination would greatly benifit; as well as From Beyond
Damn if I get her in my deck I may consider building me a deck like that
December 13, 2015 9:17 p.m.
Something tells me that that card is going to be amazing in Innistrad's tribal vamps and zombies in the upcoming standard...
December 13, 2015 9:26 p.m.
Soooooo... Shit. OGW is already sweet. Kozilek's Return is going to be sweet, and those Expeditions. Damn.
Also, what Duel Deck has been spoiled? I see a Geist of Saint Traft reprint, but what demon is that?
December 13, 2015 9:30 p.m.
FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #16
It also seems that we have a Geist of Saint Traft reprint. And this is supposedly the black card from the Innistrad Duel Deck:
Mindbreaker Demon - 2BB
Creature - Demon
Flying, Trample
When Mindbreaker Demon enters the battlefield, put the top 4 cards of your library into your graveyard.
At the beginning of your upkeep, if you don't have 4 or more card types in your graveyard, lose 4 life
4/5
Additionally, can anyone translate this?
December 13, 2015 9:31 p.m. Edited.
NO THEY DID NOT JUST REPRINT MY FAVORITE LEGENDARY... OMGGGGGGGGGG
Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet was awesomeeeeee
December 13, 2015 9:35 p.m.
GreenGhost says... #19
I would imagine a new card from the upcoming set, as is the tradition for the duel decks.

If you cast Tentacles against Burn, it will do literally nothing. I also wouldn't say letting them re-cast Siege Rhino or Huntmaster of the Fells Flip is benefitting you at all. Plus it's 5 mana when you've already cast another card that turn. Yes, surge can be triggered by Gitaxian Probe and Manamorphose, but neither of those fit into a control or midrange strategy and it is also unlikely to have both one of those and the Surge card at the same time. Surge is easy to trigger in the early turns, but on turn 5? It is highly unlikely that you will be able to tap 5 lands to cast this. Plus, can you name any cmc=5 cards that are modern playable? I can't off of the top of my head, and this is certainly not the best 5-drop in the game.

I'm a bit surprised we're seeing Mana Confluence instead of the more iconic City of Brass.
Oh well. This does seem to confirm that the enemy Tangos won't be in Oath
December 13, 2015 9:49 p.m.
FAMOUSWATERMELON using i2OCR russian text extractor, i got this:
SH |
'' Td 'x pT zchch: s- ""' "
Crossing first
e ': add <> to your mana pool.
(<> Indicates besgdzegttnuyu mana.)
t zagtlatttge 1 life: Add one mana gpibygo colors in vaie mana pool. Spend 1> and mana '1'0511> to <) to cast a spell
"Look - and yields of milk used ufch.tses . - Aili, the High Priestess and the Eternal Pilgrims
1 & w. dui,
Rhmtmch! '
So I'm assuming it means , Pay 1 life: Add 1 mana of any color to your mana pool. (Something like this) Spend this mana only to cast spells.

For the sake of argument: Keranos, God of Storms, Thragtusk, Thundermaw Hellkite, Batterskull.
Oh, and Thoughtcast and Ad Nauseam. Yes, I know. :)

What the fuck
I was watching star wars come back and see that awesome thing
I'm kind of scared to see more spoilers (I want to give wizards something for them to spoil, this set has been in the works for years, I feel bad making all that hard work go to waste)

Named_Tawyny: I'm not surprised at all. Flavorwise, Mana Confluence makes way more sense than City of Brass.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd says... #27
I'm just gonna ignore thoughtcast and ad nauseam for obvious reasons.
Is Thundermaw Hellkite really played in ... anything recently? Nothing I can think of.
All of the other cards you listed (yeah I forgot about them, but still) are very powerful and evasive or resilient threats that will oftentimes win you the game because they really can't be answered. They are so powerful because they will win you the game without setting you back one bit. With the exception of Keranos vs Burn, which is irrelevant, they are good in every single matchup.
Due to all the recent spoilers, I don't really feel like discussing this card anymore (sorry). Too much hype from expeditions that I'm bored of the bulk mythics. I don't think it will see any play, but only time will tell. You're clearly sold, I'm clearly not sold, so let's just wait and see.
Although if you really want to see what that card can do, do what I am currently doing with Stoneforge Mystic trying to predict a modern unban and start building decks with it now! If you can build a deck with it that's totally broken, then I'd love to see it. No obligation because it takes a lot of hours, but if you really want to, I'd love to see the end result.

Looking at world breaker and koz's return and thinking up a Jundrazi
December 13, 2015 11:26 p.m.
Geist of Saint Traft is back! so glad i kept my foil playset sweet beautiful bant.
December 13, 2015 11:52 p.m.
Yea so, this is going to be the most under rated card in the set, and it's going to be one of, if not THE, best card in the set. I'm buying a foil play set immediately.
It doesn't even matter if it mana screws you and kills you some games, these suckers stack. Got no cards in hand and 8 lands on the field? Activate one in response to the other, instant divination. For free. It's just going to be great. Encourages you to play your spells, and you get rewarded for it.
December 13, 2015 11:56 p.m.
I'm not 100% certain, but I think the Russian card says
Corrupted Crossroads (probably something Eldrazi related)
Add 1 colorless to your mana pool (this one is obvious)
T, pay 1 life: Add 1 mana of any color to your mana pool. Use this mana only to cast Devoid spells.
A bit underwhelming. I could be wrong, my Russian is pretty bad.
December 14, 2015 12:03 a.m.
A bolderline-playable Chandra? WHAT FRESH HELL IS THIS?!?
No but seriously, if those spoilers are real (which they certainly appear to be), this next set is going to be amazing. 0,..,0
December 14, 2015 12:14 a.m.
THAT CHANDRA THO. And I pray I get one of those expeditions. Mainly Fire-Lit Thicket. I love the art and need it.

JonathanSamurai says... #34
Every time a new Chandra is printed everyone seems to say "finally a playable Chandra". Chandra has (mostly) always been playable. Only one I haven't been big on is Chandra Ablaze and only for the CMC. If the new one Chandra, Flamecaller is legit it would be awesome. Same CMC as Ablaze but more immediate and powerful effect. Two Lightning Bolts or draw engine each turn is nice. Creature burn in a pinch is kinda meh.

vault I saw that translation on a spoiler site, so I'm pretty sure you are correct
December 14, 2015 12:48 a.m.
I like the new 4 drop vampire but only for EDH. While it's true that it survives the Bolt test I don't want it to die to Exquisite Firecraft or Roast. Typically if I am going to play a creature that dies to lesser removal with ease I want it to have a large immediate impact like Siege Rhino or to have the potential to stomp the crap out of my opponents and/or deny resources like Ember Swallower. (Note that for most of Ember Swallower's life Roast was not a card.)

VampireArmy, you won't like this man-land. This spoiler says that it is a 2/1. Not the originally thought out 4/2.
December 14, 2015 5:51 a.m.
The way I see it, drafting will be fine with <>, since decks will be built with the <> cards to start with.Casual and budget, however, I think will be hit hard by this new mechanic/land/mana (I know it's just colourless). It will be difficult to integrate cards with <> into a deck that you already have. So, realistically, you would have to make a brand new deck for OotGW. For a lot of people, that will be fine, but for the Mtg Players who keep updating their decks rather than making new ones, It might be a problem. Although of course, you don't have to have an eldrazi deck in OotGW anyway.

HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THESE SPOILERS UNTIL TODAY! D:
I would love to be the guy to open an expedition wasteland! XD
Also, why did they spoil so many mythics so quickly?

Eh, not so hot on the new Chandra. At six mana, there's just better things you can be doing than getting two non-trample 3/1s that disappear at the end of turn, or drawing a card.
December 14, 2015 7:37 a.m.
Also, A New Ugin. I think Yes.
To be honest, It might work, He features heavily in the story so it would make sense.
December 14, 2015 7:38 a.m.
I'm not seeing why anyone would think this Chandra is playable...
6 mana
Can't protect herself
Very limited form of card advantage
An ultimate that can't hit your opponent
December 14, 2015 8:31 a.m.
They make 3/1's with haste that get exiled at end of turn... no protection.

TheNextRedDude I was just stopping by to post that. It's the same CMC, right colors, right P/T, it's ghostly, and there are some flying creatures behind it that just might be angels...
