Serendipitous_Hummingbird Same. He pretty much dies to anything that can block.

not to mention Pyroclasm and Liliana of the Veil
December 16, 2015 11:36 a.m.
I think the biggest downfall to Geist is the fact that we have 1 mana X/5's in the form of Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Gurmag Angler. he just can't attack through those kind of creatures.

I Keep hoping Geist will be good again, but as long as we live in a world where people run creatures, he's never gonna be as good as we want. At the end of the day he's a 6/2 hexproof for 3. And 2 toughness just doesn't cut it.

HE won't be in standard, he's in the duel deck. It's the same with Avenger of Zendikar

By the way, this is relevant to our interests. And yes, you should read all of it.

Midexin, I'm not sure I completely understand your post but I want to address some of your points.
1) It sounds like you think wizards makes money off of singles which is not the case. Wizards only makes money off of sealed product (boosters, fat packs, etc.) and BFZ is FAR from a financial failure because wizards is selling SOOOOOOOOOOO much sealed product because every wants to win the lottery and get an expedition.
2) The power level of BFZ has nothing to do with Khans. Yes, Khans was a GREAT block and wizards probably won't print a block that good in a while but even if you ignore Khans, BFZ still sucks. If you compare BFZ to any other set besides theros block (because, you know, theros sucked. In fact it was so bad I'm not even going to capitalize it. :)) and BFZ still looks bad.

I think he would suck in standard too. Collected Company, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Gurmag Angler, Siege Rhino, Hangarback Walker, Den Protector, Abbot of Keral Keep...
Actually, 43 of the top 50 creatures in standard can kill Geist. About 1/3 of the top 50 noncreature spells can also kill geist.
December 16, 2015 11:56 a.m.
Serendipitous_Hummingbird - If Geist was in SOI there wouldn't be Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Gurmag Angler, or Siege Rhino in Standard. In fact, Collected Company would be a good reason to RUN Geist since he can be fetched with it.

JWiley129 that was actually a very good read.

Serendipitous_Hummingbird says... #15
JWiley129 I was merely referring to standard at the moment. CoCo offers surprise blockers, though it can also fetch out a geist.
Seriously though if he was in SOI that would be a disaster. We all know what happened last time. That being said, I'm hoping for a delver reprint.
December 16, 2015 12:02 p.m.
TheAnnihilator says... #17
JWiley129 To begin, I will say that I did read the whole article.
While I understand why Wizards may be upset with leaks, there is still a section of the magic community (myself included) that doesn't care about the story and would rather have a spoiler that makes no sense -- sortof like Wastes when it was spoiled. I don't see leaks as a problem because I want to have to piece together what the set may include and figure out what's going on (mechanically, not story-wise) on my own. While WotC's ideal of leading us into the set in a specific pattern does sortof do that, it doesn't really fit entirely.
I do understand where WotC is coming from, but I can't honestly say I wouldn't be a little upset if leaks just stopped happening. The majority of players like to be involved in the story and lore, so of course that's the way WotC should go. That being said, I personally love leaks despite that they destroy the story line.
December 16, 2015 12:09 p.m.
I don't want us to get off topic and discuss SOI when there's an entire thread already doing that; but I think a Delver reprint could happen and Geist is unlikely. Remember that Geist was the height of the "power creep" of Hexproof and him plus Invisible Stalker essentially made Wizards realize how powerful Hexproof really is.
NecroPony - Not officially, but SOI has 297 cards in it, while BFZ has 274. Those 20 extra cards are very likely to be DFCs. And I would be shocked if SOI didn't have DFCs.
TheAnnihilator - The difference is that Wizards wants us to see the set in a specific order. That way they can introduce concepts like the colorless mana symbol and other mechanics in such a way that best shows them off. With a large dump of info, like a leak, there isn't any of that. Note how much confusion there was over that mana symbol, and how simple it turned out to be once Wizards explained what was going on. That is what they are trying to avoid with Spoiler season. And yes those people should, and probably will, get punished. Wizards employees have worked on OGW for over 2 years to bring us this product, and instead some jackass decided to leak them on his own. I don't know about you, but if I worked on something for 2 years planning a big reveal only to have it ruined by some guy seeking a little attention, I'd be very pissed off. That's where Wizards is coming from. Because no matter how much we love seeing cards early, someone is getting damaged from that.
December 16, 2015 12:16 p.m.
TheAnnihilator says... #19
@JWiley129 I honestly enjoyed the confusion caused by Wastes, mainly because I liked figuring it out. The first thing I said to myself when I saw it was "That's Barry's Land!". I did not, however, post about it or even really discuss it. Likewise, I hate all of the arguments about it.
If I was that person/team that spent years on planning spoilers, I'd definitely be super pissed. But, alas I'm not that person, so I just liked being given an opportunity to theorize on something that unique. =D I can't blame them, though.
December 16, 2015 12:27 p.m.
TheAnnihilator - But the point of Spoiler season is to avoid those types of confusion. While it is exciting to figure out "what does it mean?!", ultimately it hurts people more than it helps.

I'm probably going to sound like an idiot but, what are DFCs?
December 16, 2015 12:50 p.m.
wwhitegoldd - Double Faced Cards, like Delver of Secrets Flip or Liliana, Heretical Healer Flip.
December 16, 2015 12:53 p.m.

ooooohh. Yeah, I'd be Shocked if SOI didn't have DFCs. :)
December 16, 2015 12:58 p.m.
You know what is the biggest missed opportunity in all of Innistrad lore?
Having Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded as a flip walker, sort of like Jace, Vryn's Prodigy or Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh Flip.
Think about it. Tibalt was a human who went totally evils...his spark inited when he turned into a devil!
No other planeswalker has went through as much change in so little time as Tibalt. Also have a lore-friendly way for him to flip is very easy. Have him kill things with a ping ability like Goblin Sharpshooter. Now you've got your mythic hoser for things like Lingering Souls or Secure the Wastes, and a limited Goblin Sharpshooter since he would flip after he kills 3-5 things and you wouldn't be able to stop it.
December 16, 2015 3:10 p.m.
kengiczar - I'd be on board with that, but if I recall correctly weren't there 0 DFCs in all of Avacyn Restored? They would have had to include them for Tibalt to end up a DFC.
December 16, 2015 3:16 p.m.
shepherdofire says... #26
kengiczar Id say if they print a flip walker outside of the 5 it would have to be a precursor set, since this is not and tibalt is already a walker and this set is not a prequel set i find that hard to be a possibilty.

So.......
how much will that expedition wasteland go for?
December 16, 2015 9:23 p.m.
Serendipitous_Hummingbird says... #28
200-300 likely. There are a bunch of foil promo wastelands, all cost between 200-300
December 16, 2015 9:24 p.m.
If I pulled an Expedition Wasteland, I'd stick it in my folder and dare anyone trading with me to trade for it. :)
"Please, give me your folder."
December 16, 2015 9:40 p.m.
IvoryFrost says... #30
I honestly wouldn't know what to do if I pulled a wasteland.
I think I would just keep staring at it. I never owned a card over 100 bucks before.
December 16, 2015 9:47 p.m.
wwhitegoldd says... #31
Random question. Does anyone know what the chances of pulling a mythic, a foil mythic, and a foil rare are? Not in the same pack. Just in general.
December 16, 2015 9:50 p.m.
IvoryFrost I pulled a delta expedition out of a fat pack on release day and flailed insanely in excitement.
December 16, 2015 10:06 p.m.
Expedition wasteland won't actually be incredibly expensive. It'll be 150-200 sure, but there are already 2 or 3 other foil wastelands that are super expensive.
December 16, 2015 10:19 p.m.
CastleSiege says... #34
wwhitegoldd, the chances of opening the following are:
- mythic ~ 4 per box
- foil rare ~ 1 per box
- foil mythic ~ 1.5 per case
This all assuming there are 36 packs per box (excludes modern masters) and the box/case hasnt been tampered with.
December 16, 2015 10:28 p.m. Edited.
wwhitegoldd says... #35
Soooo,
- mythic 1/9 boosters
- foil rare 1/36
- foil mythic 1/144 boosters
Right?

Kingofsouls says... #36
New Nissa would fit right at home in my Beastmaster Ascension deck. At most three of. Planeswalkers that can protect themselves are always viable, and i can make a plant to attack with later or provide a chump blocker, and then buff my entire team? Yes please.
December 16, 2015 10:55 p.m.
Except for the Expedition Godless Shrine that I pulled, neither have I.
December 16, 2015 11:14 p.m.
wwhitegoldd says... #38
I hate to be the guy that stops the hype train but if I'm not mistaken the chance of pulling an Expedition wasteland is 1/2880 boosters. So, yeah.
December 16, 2015 11:31 p.m.
wwhitegoldd says... #40
You'd probably have a better chance of getting value if you spent all that money on those $2 win $1,000 every week for life lottery tickets.

GoldGhost012 says... #42
If there's even just a bit of a chance, you can bet I'll be cracking packs on my excursions to Walmart.
Course, since I always get a pack every trip, nothing's going to change other than the pack I get. :p

Support your lgs! Don't buy from stores that sell other things than cards.
December 17, 2015 12:02 a.m.
shepherdofire - Yeah I don't imagine we'll ever have another "Magic Origins" style set so I don't think they'll ever print the "before" and "after" of his transformation on the same card. The only way I can see it happening now is either in a supplemental product or if they do a multi-block story-line involving time travel.
JWiley129 - I didn't realize Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded came out in Avacyn. Printing just one flip card would have been really cost prohibitive to be sure. If I remember he didn't really have much to do with the whole blocks story so he could have went into Innistrad with Garruk Relentless or into Dark Ascension.
So if it's any consolation, the chances of getting a foil expedition with a foil mythic are probably higher than a flip-walker Tibalt.

kyuuri117, what I'm saying is that if you want a wasteland expedition, spend $200-300 and GO BUY A F***ING WASTLEAND EXPEDITION.
December 17, 2015 12:48 a.m.
Most of us don't have 20-carat diamonds lying around... That's the problem.
December 17, 2015 1:03 a.m.
The chances of pulling a Godless Shrine was also 1/2880. Let the man dream!!! :)
December 17, 2015 1:06 a.m.
wwhitegoldd says... #48
You don't have enough money to buy an expedition but you guys have enough money to buy booster boxes???? I'm not trying to tell everybody what to do I'm just trying to point out the non logic of buying a bunch of boosters hoping to pull an expedition because if you don't, YOUR SCREWED. With BFZ it's almost literally pull an expedition or bust and I don't expect Oath to be any different. I just think it's stupid to spend a bunch of money on boosters when you could have just bought the expedition you want or bought a solid standard deck. Yes, boosters of "normal" sets are also usually lotterys, however, they're usually more like those scratch of lottery tickets than the FREAKING mega millions.
December 17, 2015 1:14 a.m.
Woah man calm down, I was just fucking around. If I wanted a wasteland expedition, i'd clearly just go buy one.
December 17, 2015 1:24 a.m. Edited.
And 200 to 300 isnt even mega bucks anyway when you consider the amount of opening you'll have to do on average before you get that.
But this is why fools gamble.
