Official Spoiler Thread.

Have at it.

MagicalHacker says... #1

I can't wait to see the oracle text of Rosheen Meanderer lol.

Only two other cards will have : Scorched Ruins and Su-Chi.

At least that's what I found on gatherer.

January 4, 2016 8:51 p.m.

I mean, Cabal Ritual has 5 mana symbols in a row. So does Seething Song. Some elemental I don't feel like looking up has even more.

January 4, 2016 8:53 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #3

We also like u up here in Canada.

January 4, 2016 9 p.m.

Nightdragon779 says... #4

It's Soulbright Flamekin and it has 8 in a row.

January 4, 2016 9:01 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #5

Chromanticore has the most pips of different types in a row in its rules text.

Soulbright Flamekin has the most pips of the same type in a row in its rules text.

Door to Nothingness has the most pips in a row in its rules text.

Interesting stuff!

January 4, 2016 9:01 p.m.

Ashockfan says... #6

Well Scorched Ruins won't need to be changed because it already specifies that the mana is colorless. the others, sure that will be funny

January 4, 2016 9:10 p.m.

mtgThaen says... #7

Hell yeah. 5C devoid is now a much more viable deck.

January 4, 2016 9:16 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #8

Is Corrupted Crossroads what happened to Kabira Crossroads?

January 4, 2016 9:27 p.m.

Nightdragon779 says... #9

M a g i c a l H a c k e r Most likely. WotC is corrupting lands left and right for this set so we might see more of these.

January 4, 2016 9:58 p.m.

mtgThaen says... #10

On the Mana Source's YouTube video of today's spoilers, I ran across a comment along the lines of "A deck with multiple (3-4) of each Oath and Starfield of Nyx." Seems pretty great to me, especially once we see Chandra's oath. Their ETB effects are just stupid good so far. We have pseudo-Anticipate, Thirst for Knowledge, and Raise the Alarm plus the static abilities. Yes, please. It just makes Herald of the Pantheon good again. Oh, and Sigil of the Empty Throne; too bad it triggers on cast :/ oh well, still good! Im about to die. My inner Johnny is going nuts!

VexenX says... #11

I wonder if Wizards will ever make a set that helps the plane... It seems like wherever planeswalkers go death and destruction follows...

January 4, 2016 11:06 p.m.

jchudz says... #12

The story of "the gatewatch goes to New Phyrexia and have a wonderful picnic" probably wouldn't be quite as compelling as a battle to save a plane

January 4, 2016 11:18 p.m.

mtgThaen says... #13

Umm, hello? New Phyrexia? That was the best thing to happen to Mirroden.

January 4, 2016 11:19 p.m.

beakedbard says... #14

Now I've seen a reprint of Bone Saw and Oath of Gideon exists I'm going to start brewing a mono-white ally equipment deck its starting to seem like it could be possible.

January 4, 2016 11:30 p.m.

Wizno says... #15

Okay so my fellow gatherers and I have been debating one issue about this set pretty fiercely: the presence of a black mana oath taker. We've had 4 main ideas come up and I wanted to see what you all think is most likely (if any):

1) No Black Mana Oath Taker. Period.

2) No Black Mana Oath Taker BUT we will see an Oath of Ob Nixilis that punishes for the number of planeswalkers present.

3) Drana, by some means or another, will have her spark ignite (maybe by taking down Ob Nixilis?), and become the Black Mana Oath Taker.

4) Liliana or Sorin will be the Black Mana Oath Taker.

January 5, 2016 12:53 a.m.

hippienproud says... #16

MaRo said that the oath cycle wasn't a complete cycle.

January 5, 2016 1:04 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #17

While I'm very much hoping for option 2, it's far more likely that it will be number 4 in another set (Shadows over Innistrad?). And while it's been confirmed in this article that technically there will only be an Oath for each member of the Gatewatch, I suppose it's technically possible for there to be an Ob Nix Oath doing the vengeance thing where it technically doesn't complete the cycle because Ob Nix won't join the Gatewatch. Highly unlikely? Absolutely. Am I getting my hopes up over likely nothing? Almost certainly. Am I allowed to dream? Yes.

January 5, 2016 1:09 a.m.

beakedbard says... #18

Drana having her spark ignite would be interesting but if that were to happen it should of happened already in her article she already went through something that would if definitely been the best time to ignite her spark. Sorin is busy searching for Nahiri and Liliana seems highly unlikely it would just be very out of character for her to suddenly decide to join them after what she previously said. Nixilis anti-oath as amazing as that would be seems unlikely and other than those I can't think of anything else either. Its likely we'll end up with option one unfortunately.

VexenX says... #19

Opps, double post

January 5, 2016 1:20 a.m. Edited.

JWiley129 says... #20

January 5, 2016 3:46 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #21

I'm pretty sure that Drana cannot have a spark. Vampires on Zendikar are technically dead (in contrast to those on Innistrad) and so must be given a spark.

January 5, 2016 3:49 a.m.

Chandrian says... #22

How the hell is there a Prowess ability in Oath???

January 5, 2016 3:51 a.m.

JWiley129 says... #23

Prowess is Evergreen, Chandrian. Mark Rosewater said that there was Prowess in BFZ, but apparently it got cut during Development.

January 5, 2016 3:55 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #24

I personally like Stormchaser Mage, but that's just me being a dirty, filthy U/R player.

It's practically identical to Monastery Swiftspear, but you pay an additional for an additional toughness, flying and another four copies in your deck.

January 5, 2016 3:56 a.m.

Rob1nb says... #25

Void Grafter looks pretty nice

January 5, 2016 3:57 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #26

That's just the card I needed for Jeskai burn. We'll, see you guys. I'm going to sit in a hovel to brew for a few days.

Sorry for the double post.

January 5, 2016 4 a.m.

VampireArmy says... #27

Prowess is evergreen. Used in any set now. I like that vamp more than the others. Mostly because it doesn't suck. I'd take a 2/1 for 3 though considering his ability would be dope in rally allies combo

January 5, 2016 4:02 a.m.

Chandrian says... #28

can that vampire see play in modern? Like in something like Soul Sisters (or whatever that lifegain deck is). It doesn't die to bolt!

January 5, 2016 4:18 a.m.

CChaos says... #29

The vampire works well with Karlov of the Ghost Council in commander.

It is because you are not going for the amount of life gained but multiple life gain triggers. Plus if you give him life gain he will feel like a mini Sanguine Bond.

January 5, 2016 4:34 a.m.

beakedbard says... #30

Then weapons trainer appears make that a R/W ally equip deck I was debating it anyway because of the new bushwhacker.

So Stormchaser Mage while all the prowess from the previous sets are still around and yet again the Buskwhacker well now i want to brew a R/U prowess deck as well. Oath is giving us quite a lot the other three spoilers are awesome in their own right as well.

January 5, 2016 4:38 a.m.

Ravolt says... #31

Void Grafter looks like an awesome eldrazi uncommon :D

Way better than Prophet of Distortion

January 5, 2016 5:42 a.m.

Putrefy says... #32

Dat Stormchaser :O

Swiftspear, Stormchaser, Abbot, Snapcaster, let's go for U/R Prowess!

In the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong it's colour.

In some other places it is color.

AgentGreen says... #35

For someone who wants to use 5C Eldrazi with Corrupted Crossroads; how are players going to mitigate the life loss? Right now there are very few (if any) life gain Eldrazi; and with Tomb of the Spirit Dragon rotating out, that leaves a hole to fill for life gain. I don't think players can adquately run a 5C eldrazi with Crossroads unless they are able to mitigate the life loss

January 5, 2016 8:08 a.m.

Putrefy says... #36

Nah, not RUG. I don't think green is necessary at all. Stormchaser might not be a Goyf sizewise, but it has evasion. Currently I'm on the following:

  • 4x Swift
  • 4x Abbot
  • 4x Stormchaser
  • 3x Snapcaster (too clunky as 4-of)
  • 1x Grim Lavamancer (we need more ways to utilize our graveyard)

  • 4x Gitaxian Probe
  • 2x Twisted Image (Deal 4 damage, draw a card for U? Sign me up!)
  • 4x Lightning Bolt
  • 1x Gut Shot (tilt equity)
  • 1x Logic Knot (we will shredd through our deck like mad, let's utilize that juicy graveyard)
  • 3x Remand
  • 4x Mishra's Bauble (+1/+1 team, cycles, fixes our draw with fetchlands, what's not to like? Especially insane with Remand. Play Bauble, Remand Bauble, Replay Bauble, Team +3/+3)
  • 4x Serum Visions
  • 3x Vapor Snag (dem tempoplays)

  • 3x Steam Vents
  • 1x Stomping Ground
  • 4x Scalding Tarn
  • 4x Misty Rainforest
  • 4x Island (maybe it's better to run 3 Island and 10 Fetchlands)
  • 1x Mountain
  • 1x Sulfur Falls

  • 2x Deprive
  • 4x Young Pyromancer
  • 2x Ancient Grudge
  • 3x Dispel
  • 1x Spell Pierce
  • 3x Blood Moon

Argy says... #37

AgentGreen you know that Tomb of the Spirit Dragon doesn't rotate out this set, right?

January 5, 2016 8:20 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #38

Oh you were talking modern. I had standard in my mind.

January 5, 2016 8:24 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #39

UR prowess in modern is already sort of a thing. Now it can definitely be a thing. It's just such a strong mechanic along with Gitaxian Probe and Lightning Bolt etc.

January 5, 2016 8:25 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #40

So, I just make a four-color budget blink deck on a whim. It's pretty meh, but you can get some funny plays (like blinking back Greenwarden of Murasa to add back Bring to Light.

If you want to see my version of the decklist:

Budget Blue Abzan Blink

Putrefy I am now officially playing that deck.

January 5, 2016 8:32 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #41

Ah, don't you just hate trying to tag Putrefy? It always comes up with Putrefy.

January 5, 2016 8:34 a.m.

enter image description here

Wow what a sweet card.

The G/U creature seems like solid sideboard material for creature decks. Counter your removal and add to the board will typically crush a control deck.

January 5, 2016 9:21 a.m.

Guftders says... #43

Putrefy Oh my days! Must play this deck! :D

Personally, I'd run Polluted Delta over Misty Rainforest though, since I actually have deltas XD and I'm tempted to run Kolaghan's Command in the side...

January 5, 2016 9:30 a.m.

Putrefy says... #44

Ohh Rasta_Viking29 :) Maybe read the last page?

@Guftders I don't think Kolaghan's Command works well enough with Abbot of Keral Keep and Snapcaster Mage in a deck that runs 18 lands. You're not a grindy deck, you're a tempo deck that wants to win T4/5. K-Command certainly is a very powerful card, but this is not the shell for it.

January 5, 2016 9:30 a.m. Edited.

Guftders says... #45

Is it just me though, or does the face on Stormchaser mage look weird? Like someone photoshopped it in badly?

January 5, 2016 9:31 a.m.

Putrefy I did? Before I posted as well. Were you trying to imply something?

January 5, 2016 9:42 a.m.

Argy says... #47

His head does look a bit big for his body.

January 5, 2016 9:44 a.m.

AgentGreen says... #48

Argeaux I know it doesn't rotate out this set, but will rotate out when SOI comes into play.

I'm saying that because my local game store is having a PTQQ a day after Khans and Fate rotates out

January 5, 2016 9:45 a.m.

hcaselli says... #49

Just remembering that Tarkir block will fall and those crappy dual lands we have on this block will be staples.

But, thank goodness, Siege Rhino will be out.

Which makes me ask myself: What can we wait in the last expansion of the BfZ block?

January 5, 2016 9:50 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #50

AgentGreen

If they have it a literal day after they should allow old cards. How are you supposed to get all your cards within one day?
