Old Zendikar Fatpacks

Due to BFZ being released soon I did some research on the old Zendikar set (which I wasn't around for) and came across a few articles online saying that in Zendikar boosters you had a chance of opening either any of the Power 9 or other vintage staples. Is this seriously true? And if it is would they ever do it again?

That was only during the prerealese, if I am not mistaken. Plus, if pack opening is like looking for a needle in a haystack, the opening Zen packs with the hope of power 9 is like looking for a specific grain of sand in a beach.

It was actually the entirety of the first print run. It was a tiny chance (1 in 1000 or less), but you would sometimes get old cards, including things like Power 9.

If the chance is one in 1000, you have to buy 1000 boosters. Booster boxes for zendikar are 600 bucks each and (to simplify), you need 25 of them. At $15000 for that, you are better off straight up buying the whole set of moxes than buying sealed product in the hopes of getting 1 Mox.

I think they were asking whether that would happen again, not if it's financially sound to buy up Zendikar boxes.

No, it was a mistake and guy who did it was fired I believe. Wizards wouldn't let something like that happen again.

According to this, it was on purpose. Although I wasn't really playing at that time so I can't say for myself.

It was very much on purpose. WotC went out and asked people to donate cards to it. One guy donated a Black Lotus and someone opened it at their prerelease. Best. Limited pool. Ever.

At this point, it's very unlikely that ANY Hidden Treasures packs exist anymore, much less one that has any Power in it. And I don't believe they'll be doing it again. They did it the first time because Zendikar was/is the "Adventure World" and they wanted the treasures to represent that. Now, though, Zendikar is a "World in Peril" and I don't think putting treasure in the packs would represent that. Now, replacing your entire pack with Homelands cards, that seems pretty perilous.

Huh guess my mtg history needs a little more fact checking...
