Possible teaser/speculation for wedge charms

Not the biggest news in the world, but if you've decided to check the Gatherer today, you may have noticed some things about modal spells. Their Oracle text no longer uses the "X, or X, or X" format. It's now: "Choose one:

  • X

  • X"

and so on. Might be nothing, but a change to Oracle wording for modal spells mean it's probably fresh on (people in charge of wording)'s minds, so there might be some new modal spells inbound with Khans. Thoughts, anyone (on potential Charms and new modal wording?)

Bullets would be clearer, I suppose, but they take up more real estate in the text box.

I think it's safe to say that Wizards will be printing wedge charms. Alara had them, and they've already demonstrated some degree of intent to give wedges the same form of support (e.g. they printed wedge taplands). Charms wouldn't be unreasonable, and they'd be a good way to add flavor and flexibility to the set.

I would love to see Wedge charms. I wish this is true. I want "exile target permanent" to be an option. Simply adds to my theory that Khans is the wedge version of the Shards of Alara set.

Here's hoping for confirmation of those, and wedge "nobles" and ultimatums.

Someone at GatheringMagic speculated on a Mardu charm which was along the lines of:

Mardu Charm

Instant

Choose one: Exile target creature, or exile target artifact, or exile target enchantment.

I don't know how good that is, but it's not too far outside the realm of possibilities.

I have big hope for these, and I've been messing around with what a Jesaki Charm might look like;

WUR

Instant

Choose one:

  • Jesaki Charm deals four damage to target creature

  • Counter Target Spell (This might be wrong, we already have 2 3 mana counter spells in standard).

  • Exile/Destroy (Don't know what's more appropriate) target enchantment

What do you guys think some of the other charms could look like?

Jeskai charm would be like that yeah. It would be:

WUR

Choose one

deal four damage to target creature

Counter target spell. If that spell is countered this way, put it into its owner's hand instead of into that player's graveyard.Draw a card.

exile target attacking or blocking creature

I have trouble believing that remand would be put on the charm because of how wordy it is but I don't think that jeskai wouldn't be a hard counter

I like a lot of the modes people have been mentioning, but don't think another 3CMC counter is necessary in the format.

Jeskai Charm -

Choose one:

  • Jeskai Charm deals 4 damage to target creature (or player, or is that too much?).

  • Draw two cards, then discard one (or should it be draw 3, discard 2?).

  • Destroy target artifact or enchantment. (kinda like Wear / Tear )

that jeskai charm you listed has the potential to be busted in uwr control in modern. It's basically 3 different removal spells, Although I guess at 3 color intensive mana it could be justified.

For Temur Charm I'm seeing something like this:

RUG

Instant

choose one:

  • Target creature you control deals damage equal to its power to target creature. (like our khan punching a bear, it doesn't get the chance to hit back)

  • Creatures you control gain "this creature can't be blocked by creatures with power 2 or less" (savagery and all that)

  • Creatures you control get +1/+1 and gain hexproof until end of turn (big things shrugging off removal)

the bullets might be to help people understand better. someone already mentioned how the convoke text has been turned to hand holding. i also noticed recently that the creature tokens in m15 have "token creature" now instead of just "creature".

  • "Hand holding"

Oh dear Lord, not this again.

As a proponent of semicolons, I'm sad to see them go in favor of a bulleted list. More practically, I can see how giving each mode its own line would look cleaner.

I personally love semicolons. They are my favorite punctuation marks.

Heres what I think Sultai Charm is:

Sultai Charm:

BUG

Instant

Choose one:

Destroy target creature with power 3 or less

Target play discards a card and loses 1 life

Put two +1/+1 counters on up to two creatures you control.

All ruthless abilities for a ruthless clan.

I think if you want to speculate as to what the charms will do, you have to look at the recent multi-coloured charms we've had (Shards and RtR).

When it comes to a charm containing blue, the charm will always either have a bounce effect, counter a spell, or draw cards.

For that reason, I think your BUG charm is off the mark Swaggy.

For Black, you have discard, -x/-x or destroy, and interaction with graveyard.

For Green on the other hand has been open season. There has been pump, destroy target artifact and destroy enchantment, and even graveyard manipulation.

I hope they take a little of what they did with the RtR charms. In those, there was an option from each colour and the third was a combination of what both could do. In the Shards charm, it was an option for each colour. So why not now choose an option of each dual combination you can have with the three colours.

So, for instance, for BUG, you could have:
(BU Option) - Mill ... Maybe straight up mill 7+?
(BG Option) - Graveyard ... Returning a card to hand, or a Grisly Salvage variant?
(UG Option) - Hexproof or draw.... Simic Charm gave hexproof to all your permanents, so it's hard to top that, so perhaps a draw spell depending on creature damage (a spell form of Keen Sense /Curiosity )? .. UET when a creature deals damage to an opponent draw a card.

Anyway, I think it would be fun if they did them that way.
