Personally the only thing that I could see is maybe the rhino could get banned, but I hate it since I'm a burn player, so I'm biased.
maybe Ancestral Vision unban? Personally, I pray for Hypergenesis, but that's a pipe dream.

I honestly hope Sword of the Meek or Bloodbraid Elf comes off but i don't think anything will change

ChiefBell I thought you were saying that it was awful, and that there was little variance after the last bannings?
March 22, 2015 6:25 p.m.
I predicted it would be awful. I was both right and wrong. Whilst i was certainly correct in calling that abzans popularity would become stifling (10 to 15% of the meta), i failed to predict that no other deck would become immensely popular. Before pod and delver together accounted for around 25 to 30% of the meta which was awful. Now we have a situation where again we have a single deck that runs rampant BUT no other deck comes close to that level of representation. Therefore instead of having just two decks that make up 1/3 of the meta, we have many many more. I am annoyed that the last bannings killed blue to some extent. There IS a lot of abzan running around. However besides that deck the meta is great. Before we had ridiculous amounts of pod AND rid Julia's amounts of delver. Things have got better.
March 22, 2015 6:31 p.m.
- ridiculous amounts of delver.
IPad does weird autocorrect.

ChiefBell Right now burn and abzan are even, according to mtggoldfish (after combining regular abzan with little kid abzan)

@quesobueno123 Never trust any website's exact numbers, unless they tell you exactly how they got them and they did it properly.
In other news, there's going to be a banlist announcement? That should kinda show how much change I think there's going to be. The format's fine.
Hey, if you could ban Blood Moon that'd be real nice.
March 22, 2015 6:43 p.m.
I tend to collate goldfish with mtgtop8 and keep a running analysis, week by week. We still have less abzan + burn than we did have pod + delver

fluffybunnypants Ya I saw that already, but it is so funny.
GlistenerAgent They should ban Glistener Elf and Blighted Agent.
March 22, 2015 6:48 p.m.
GlistenerAgent says... #19
Of course we do. Pod and Delver were legitimately oppressive.
Except my matchups against both of them were freaking amazing. Pls unban pls.
March 22, 2015 6:48 p.m.
Agreed - you play it by looking at changes not hard numbers. So i do comparisons rather than looking at hard numbers.
March 22, 2015 6:48 p.m.
GlistenerAgent says... #21
If they ban Glistener Elf and Blighted Agent, they better ban Blood Moon with them. Screw that card.

I really want to tag tyforthevenom and indepenantmeta, that would be enjoyable.

What do you guys think about the banlist? Any changes necessary?

ChiefBell: The modern meta is horrible atm. I know this because my personal favorite deck isn't a dominating presence in professional play.
They need to unban Deathrite Shaman.
March 22, 2015 7:08 p.m.
GlistenerAgent says... #26
They need to unban Dig Through Time.
PLEASE. DO IT. Some of the most fun games I've played had Dig involved.
EOT Dig Through Time. Response, Dig Through Time. Remand your Dig. Negate your Remand. Dispel your Dig. Izzet Charm your Dig. Counterflux your Izzet Charm. Counterflux your Dig.
At the end of this, neither Digs resolve. However, two turns later we each have five cards in hand. Sweeeeeet.

ban splinter twin and all hale the era of tron!!!!
March 22, 2015 7:27 p.m.
A Dig Through Time unban would be nice. Control would again have some presence in the meta, Scapeshift would be one of the top decks in the meta. It would really balance the format again.
March 22, 2015 7:27 p.m.
Dig needs to stay banned so twin doesn't get banned. While some of you hate the deck, it is beatable you just have to interact with it, hence the poor matchup versus abzan. Also it is pretty much the only combo deck left in modern now.
March 22, 2015 7:31 p.m.
Pls Wizards, just make Doomsday modern legal and you can ban whatever you want. Hear my pagan prayers, MaRo! Reprint Doomsday!

I hope they kill Splinter Twin. I realize it doesn't necessarily need to be banned, but it wouldn't surprise me as recent history indicates that WoTC just hates combo decks. Personally, I like a combo deck as much as the next guy, but Twin is really boring to play, play against, etc.. I think the re-printings of Tarmogoyf and Emrakul, the Aeons Torn (both of which you could perhaps make a case for banning) indicate pretty strongly what type decks they'd like to see being played in the format, i.e. creature-based strategies with "interactivity," which is a swell buzzword, but a lame governing principle.

if i was to cripple but not destroy Splinter Twin i'd ban Deceiver Exarch just to hit the consistency, they're slightly more vulnerable without being dead
March 22, 2015 7:36 p.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #35
Banning Tarmo doesn't make sense given MM2.
I have no idea what they intend to do with Modern specifically.
March 22, 2015 7:36 p.m.
Wizard_of_the_Broke says... #36
So actually maybe I hope they don't ban Splinter Twin, end their policy of combo-hate, and unban all the Storm cards.
March 22, 2015 7:37 p.m.
CrazyLittleGuy says... #37
@sirbar "only combo deck left in modern"
Only if you have a really strict definition of combo. Infect and Bloom Titan are both a form of combo, and Burn is pretty combo-esque, among others.
March 22, 2015 7:38 p.m.
CrazyLittleGuy says... #38
@tyforthevenom Banning Deceiver Exarch is pretty crippling for Twin, as it turns their currently ok Burn matchup into absolute garbage, making it terribly weak to both of the top two decks.
March 22, 2015 7:40 p.m.
Wizard_of_the_Broke says... #39
I was't saying they will ban Tarmo or Emrakul, just that you could make a case for them being way, way more unbalanced then the cantrips and rituals they have banned from Storm, for instance. My point was that I think WoTC's vision for the format isn't that big a mystery.
March 22, 2015 7:40 p.m.
Twin is interactive, but only if their opponent wants the game to be. If a twin player is playing a storm player then they aren't going to try and interact because the storm player isn't going to. Plus this isn't even the biggest twin has been. Doesn't anyone remember kiki pod, kiki control? Rug twin? Now its just twin with blood moon.
Banning exarch is actually a good idea if twin was a problem. This would push twin into using resto angel with kiki-jiki and then you would have the old kiki control deck again.

Dalektable says... #42
Nothing needs banned, they can even unban some stuff probably. But I expect no change.
March 22, 2015 7:47 p.m.
CrazyLittleGuy Your right I missed amulet bloom. I don't consider infect a combo deck because it is completely willing to win over multiple turns in the same way as it is looking to do in the one turn.
Storm got banned for much of the same reason as eggs, it wasn't interesting to play against even though storm wasn't to the extremes of eggs. Unlike eggs, storm is still playable in the same form, now it gives even more room for player error.
March 22, 2015 7:48 p.m.
CrazyLittleGuy says... #44
@sirbar I don't see why it would push the deck into another color, with a more expensive combo, that's still just as weak to Lightning Bolt as Pestermite is. The only benefit is it reduces your blowout potential, but that's never really where Twin struggled.
March 22, 2015 7:48 p.m.
Wizard_of_the_Broke says... #45
Yeah, I agree they might want Twin to morph into a different form rather than just kill it. And I realize the deck is somewhat interactive, but the main win-con really isn't. T4 Twin instant wins and Blood Moon instant wins make for boring pro tour matches, which are bad advertising for the game from their perspective.
March 22, 2015 7:48 p.m.
CrazyLittleGuy says... #46
@sirbar "Infect is completely willing to win over multiple turns."
Twin does the same. It's just as willing to poke it's enemies to death with Pestermite, Snapcaster Mage, and Vendilion Clique as it is to jam Splinter Twin when there are no defenses. In fact that's how a good Twin player pilots the deck.
March 22, 2015 7:51 p.m.
I hope for a sword of the meek unban, but I'm 99.9% sure we see no changes.

My predicions:
Everything unbanned
Ban Godhunter Octopus, Storm Crow, Grizzly Bears, and Razor Boomerang.
Jk jk. I think maybe Ancestral Vision or Bloodbraid Elf comes off, but that's it.

Oh there will probably be no change.. I wish they would change things though. Hell, they didn't wait to ban Dig, why wait to ban Rhino?
I dunno, I'm continuously bitter with Modern these days. Control is irrelevant and anything outside of Twin means Blue is equally irrelevant. I'm in that small minority that doesn't believe the meta is fine. Yes, there will always be a top deck, I accept that, but... I dunno. Modern feels stale.
